RB26DETT in a 280ZX
But I sure would like to. Its not to common to see engine swaps in a ZX, be the first to chart this new frontier. If I had the cash to do it I would definetly be on the ball with working it out over the winter and having it running for the summer, of this there is no doubt

In excellent shape, probably 8.5-9 out of 10 center caps were a 10 for 200. No curb rash, polished.

Original Rebuild from Nissan
That car has been driven to much to rate a price of 33900, now if it were like Zrushs car then I would say it could fetch a price that high. This owner of the car on ebay is just dreaming a dream that unfortunately for him wont come true.

louvers on ebay

Will 79 280ZX gearbox fit 85 300ZX?
I thought that the input shafts for the T-5 were the same only the bells had changed, the clutch is the same for the 83 turbo to the 86 turbo. If this is true that shoots my chances of getting a 84-86 T-5 with the better gears.:sleepy:

What type of tire is best
Id say nothing beats BFG's drag radials, for auto x its a totally different story, and put it this way you wouldnt be running anything you could on the street for the AutoX less you dont really want to go that fast. Kuhmo makes a really good autox tire, for a pretty good price, check out www.thetirerack.com

Heads and L28 Blocks
Id go with the later ZX block F54 designation, already has flat tops, and this you will get a lot of replies on which head is the best but I would say the N42 or the P90. Couple that with a new cam kit, 460 lift 270-280 duration cam, Ztherapy SU's or injection, your choice, a good equal length tube header, 2.5 inch exhaust, 79 5 speed and a 3.9 or 4.11 rear and your cooking with gas.

Boy am I bummed out...terrible dyno results
You are right his name is Norm but he lives in one of the Carolinas, not Washington. I should know I visited him on the way home from a trip to get a Z in Florida. His car is crazy fast and its all on junkyard parts that he worked and did hiself. V-8s well eh, they are ok, if you like an engine that needs rebuilt every 100k or less, bleeds, ie chevy V-8's. I dont sweat V-8's to much, least not ones on the street. There are some good V-8s you could get but if your looking for break neck speed out of your L6, then get a turbo, you will enjoy. If you wish to contact Norm the 12 sec dual su dude here is his email, 240zREMOVETHISrunner@charter.net. He is always happy to help a fellow Z memeber.

I think mostly the reason he is only at 14.1 in the 1.4 is more then likely due to traction problems. The car has a lot of go fast goodies on it and is meant to fly. -3.1 Liter Stroker 89mm Flat Top Pistons 240Z Rods Maxima Diesel Crank 490 Lift Schneider Cam Ported and Polished N42 Head Nissan Comp Swirl Values 44 Triple Webber Carbs with big Jets Crane Hi 6 Ignition w/ PS91 Coil. why dont we see gt wings on zs?
It was the reason for the 1979 280ZXR. The wing actually put 350 lbs of downforce on the vehicle at 100+ mph.

Starting up 73Z
Most auto parts stores have a plug gap tester, cost is about 5-8 bucks. Plug it into your plug boot, then attach it to your plug. Works great for its price.
-
What are you running
Do you want a harsher then stock ride that will handle like its on rails or do you want a better then stock handling with a decent ride. You have to ask yourself first what you want then decide. Me personally, if it doesnt ride rough and handle anything I throw at it, its not good enough. My best set up was on my 72, SST sway bars, 1 inch up front 7/8 at the rear, tokico springs and struts, energy suspension bushings and front strut bar. Granted on a road that was less then good you felt all bumps but at the same time I coud drive it like I stole it without fear. If you want a daily driver type without a lot of harshness in the ride I would go with the Eibach progressive rate spings, and definetly go with tokico struts, they are the only way to go. Check out www.shox.com, they have the best prices

exhaust manifold
If I were you I would do some serious searching before dealing with Dannys Datsuns. Lots of bad reviews on other sites. One place I can say that is excellent for sure, and I have dealt with several times is Zbarn out of Tennesee. Great people, service and prices.
