Blue Magic polish will help the chrome shine and meguirs or mothers plastic polish will shine up the lenses themselves to make then look better then they already do. If you really want to sell them, put them on ebay and watch how high the price goes for them.
  5. Id go with the later ZX block F54 designation, already has flat tops, and this you will get a lot of replies on which head is the best but I would say the N42 or the P90. Couple that with a new cam kit, 460 lift 270-280 duration cam, Ztherapy SU's or injection, your choice, a good equal length tube header, 2.5 inch exhaust, 79 5 speed and a 3.9 or 4.11 rear and your cooking with gas.

  7. The basics are still the same regaurdless, this should help you with timing your car and understanding it a little better. Its some really good reading and should help you with your problem. Good luck. James Undertanding Timing
  8. You are right his name is Norm but he lives in one of the Carolinas, not Washington. I should know I visited him on the way home from a trip to get a Z in Florida. His car is crazy fast and its all on junkyard parts that he worked and did hiself. V-8s well eh, they are ok, if you like an engine that needs rebuilt every 100k or less, bleeds, ie chevy V-8's. I dont sweat V-8's to much, least not ones on the street. There are some good V-8s you could get but if your looking for break neck speed out of your L6, then get a turbo, you will enjoy. If you wish to contact Norm the 12 sec dual su dude here is his email, 240zREMOVETHISrunner@charter.net. He is always happy to help a fellow Z memeber.
  9. I think mostly the reason he is only at 14.1 in the 1.4 is more then likely due to traction problems. The car has a lot of go fast goodies on it and is meant to fly. -3.1 Liter Stroker 89mm Flat Top Pistons 240Z Rods Maxima Diesel Crank 490 Lift Schneider Cam Ported and Polished N42 Head Nissan Comp Swirl Values 44 Triple Webber Carbs with big Jets Crane Hi 6 Ignition w/ PS91 Coil. 10. It was the reason for the 1979 280ZXR. The wing actually put 350 lbs of downforce on the vehicle at 100+ mph.

Most auto parts stores have a plug gap tester, cost is about 5-8 bucks. Plug it into your plug boot, then attach it to your plug. Works great for its price.

Do you want a harsher then stock ride that will handle like its on rails or do you want a better then stock handling with a decent ride. You have to ask yourself first what you want then decide. Me personally, if it doesnt ride rough and handle anything I throw at it, its not good enough. My best set up was on my 72, SST sway bars, 1 inch up front 7/8 at the rear, tokico springs and struts, energy suspension bushings and front strut bar. Granted on a road that was less then good you felt all bumps but at the same time I coud drive it like I stole it without fear. If you want a daily driver type without a lot of harshness in the ride I would go with the Eibach progressive rate spings, and definetly go with tokico struts, they are the only way to go. Check out www.shox.com, they have the best prices

If I were you I would do some serious searching before dealing with Dannys Datsuns. Lots of bad reviews on other sites. One place I can say that is excellent for sure, and I have dealt with several times is Zbarn out of Tennesee. Great people, service and prices.

You first said no rust then a little rust. So there is rust on the car. Also like Ed says, it depends on what you have done to the car. I bought a very clean and completely rust free 71 from los angeles for 2500. Location means everything. The cleaner it is and the lack of rust are the biggest factors.
  17. www.suspension.com is the place to go. Great price fast shipping and great people. Ive dealt with Bruce, hes awesome.
  18. From a fellow Z freind named Blue. here is the link http://www.hammondsplains.com/zclub/techtips/index.html Many subjects covered, I hope you enjoy this, this man took a lot of time to do this all for everyone to use and enjoy. James
  19. the triples put a cam in your engine and you should be fine with them. All you really need is a basic set of metric wrenches and sockets. You could pick this up for cheap at Sears. To bad your not near PA, Id help you out. Like seerex said, its not a hard job with the brake booster just a pain in the aspen.
  20. One of my buddies over at the other site:ermm: dont hit me:stupid: wrote this, I think its awesome, Props to Zluster for this cheery Z Christmas poem. A Visit from Saint Nicholaz Twas the Night before Christmas and all through the town. Not a Z Car was zipping or cruising around. The stockings were hung by the tool box with care. In hopes that St. Nicholaz would leave something there. 300zxClub members were tucked in their beds, While visions of Zeds raced through their heads My car under cover and I in my cap, All I could think of was the summers last lap When out on the driveway there arose such a clatter I sprung from my 240 to see whats the matter. Away to the window I flew like a flash. I ripped down the blinds as I tripped over the trash. The moon on the hood of my new GTR, Threw a glow in the night both near and far. When what to my wondering eyes should appear? But- A shinny red Z and eight Japanese deer! With a little old driver that liked to go quick, I new in a moment it must be St. Nick. More rapid than Mustangs his coursers they came, And he whistles and shouted and called out their name: "Now, 240! Now, 260! Now, 280 and ZX! On, 300! On, Shiro! On Twin Turbo and Stillen! On down the driveway, stay away from the wall! Now zip away, speed away, zip away all!" As fast Zeds burn rubber while a twisty track they fly, When they meet with a curb, and mount to the sky. So up my Court the Datsun flew, The Nissan full of car stuff and Saint Nicholaz too! And in 0 to 60 I heard on my drive The clutching and shifting of a 5 spd overdrive. As I drew in my head and was turning around Into the garage St. Nicholas did bound! He was all dressed in Nomex from his head to his foot, His jump suit was tarnished with oil and soot. A bundle of race parts he took off his back. He looked like a parts dealer just opening his pack! His eyes - how they twinkled. His dimples how merry. His helmet was Bell, Bright red like a cherry! His droll little mouth was drawn up in a grin With a bit of black gold smeared on his chin. The tip of an exhaust pipe he held in his teeth, And the smoke encircled his head like a big Christmas wreath. He had a broad face and a little beer belly That shook, when he laughed, like a bowl full of chili. He was jolly and plump - a right jolly elf. And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself. A wink of his eye and a twist of his head I new he'd take care of my sweet little Zed! He spoke not a word but went straight to work, Changing my camshaft, he then turned with a jerk, And laying his finger aside of his nose And giving a nod - out the garage door he goes. He jumped in his Z Car, to his team he did whistle And raced down the street like a Tomahawk missile! But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight: "Happy Christmas to all, and too all a good night!"
  21. and it will help you to do it buy giveing yourself some time on your car. Trust me this is a good start to a learning experience on working on your own car. Most dont know about Z cars, (meaning mechanics at your local shops) and the more you can do yourself the more you can save. If you have a set of basic tools, ie wrenches, extensions and ratchets and sockets, the two jobs you listed are easy. The hardest part for me with the master vac brake booster is getting the 4 nuts off of the inside. Its an easy task. Now for the tripples if you have a stock engine, I wouldnt recommend putting these carbs on till you have some engine work that can take advantage of what these carbs will offer. Just my .02
  22. I didnt notice that, it is from anothe forum, hes a good member and has posted several good how to's and tutorials. Thats something that I missed. I surely wouldnt as I said before though put that in my oil irregaurdless.
  23. Its from a toyota forum. I dont see where though you got the oil would be thinned out by laquer thinner??? Its an old trick to add some life to worn or dried oring type gaskets to give them some life. You just give them a quick soak and clean in some laquer thinner. I wouldnt be putting it in my oil for the clutch fan. Most people that I know that have done the clutch fan rebuild usually use a 20/50 oil in the clutch fan. If you could contact Nissan maybe they have a specific oil that goes in there? Who knows
  24. Put those on ebay your sure to find a fortune for them there, especially from US buyers.

About 2 months ago I just tossed 5 of these wheels out. I didnt think anyone would want them and I polished them myself. They were on my black 72. Shame, I would have just given them away. Oh well I got the scrap aluminum price for them:classic:
