My 71' 240z project ... =)
The new battery tray is taking form... Rust cut away and replaced with new metal - welds to be introduced to the grinder... Same as above, drivers side! Grind grind grind... Some POR-15 applied =) The metal plate with the X was 6 mm thick (!!!)... ...and behind it, this was hiding - a bloody hinge! Decision to make new rails came swiftly. Reinforcement for the hatch plate... ...mounted in this pic.

Flares - make?
Ah! I salute you! That car is wicked... ! :knockedou However, the flares on your green 240z look much wider than the ones on the black in my first post. Anyway - I love the flares on the green one so I'll probably look to get something similar. How wide are the rims/slicks in your picture? :surprised Thanks for all replies so far! Not sure if anyone's hit the spot yet tho?

Flares - make?
Who makes these flares - if they're not custom made for this car?

My 71' 240z project ... =)
Since I got a PM pointing out how there's no bends or anything in the floor (there are actually - near the rocker panels there's 3 bends) I thought I might point out that the floors aren't finished. Haven't gotten my rotissery shipped to the workshop yet. When I do - these will be added underneath - as well as a sub frame. Plus, the mounting "beams" for the seats will do their part...

Who has the most rusty Z?
This is what the driver side floor looked like after sand blasting: Passenger side + firewall: Left rear corner: Rocker panel (front): Do I really need to say that the floors have been cut out and replacement floors and patches for the firewall will be made. New rocker panels waiting to be welded into place. New frame rails in the making as well. Jeez... :stupid:

dash repair
I just restored my dash - well, sort of. This is what I did; 1: Glued my half dash cap on - permanently (a full cap would've been best, but that didn't come with the car) 2: I ground down the worst of the difference in "height" between the original and the cap 3: Applied fibreglass bondo to the ground areas to smooth out the remaining differences in height 4: Applied a finer bondo to smooth out the smoothing 5: Ground the dash cap and the rest of the dash with 80 and 120 grit paper 6: A 3 layer base of "grind-primer" under coat was applied 7: Sanded that out with 500 grit 8: Dash smoother than a babys butt - ready for paint (or new vinyl, or whatever you prefer) Process (Windows media); + http://www.voodoo-people.com/~daz/mull/mull@sce4.avi (89 mb) + http://www.racemovie.mine.nu/movies/mull/mull@sce4-lq.wmv (Streaming [slow server tho ] There's some additional footage in that flick btw...

New movie; The short story on how I got my Z - and fetching it. And stripping it. And sending it to be sand blasted • http://racemovie.mine.nu/movies/mull/mull@hugo-the.beginning.avi • http://www.voodoo-people.com/~daz/mull/MULL@hugo-the.beginning.avi (fast mirror) Wicked! That's dirt cheap. You know, if I was living in the US, I'd have at least 5 240z's sitting in a garage. Over here, there's about 50 or so in total, registered, cruising around. Average cost is about $7.000 or so

Save S30-0002
Who's restoring The No.5 ? Any pictures of the process/progress? Must say I'm thrilled No.2 just popped up on the grid like this - a junk yard find. Awesome!

how do u Polishing ur engine?
Here's a guide with pictures that might be of some help! The guide's in Swedish, but it's all pretty straight forward work, so you should be alright. If you want any of translated just quote it and I'll set you up. http://supras.nu/forum/showthread.php?threadid=4466&perpage=15&pagenumber=1

My 71' 240z project ... =)
It's getting there! :classic: Here are some vidcaps from the video called MULL@SCE3.avi ... The hatch plate was all eaten through by rust. Out with the old. In with the new! Many thanks to Zedd Findings for keeping great parts in stock! The hatch was fixed. The molds for the carbon won't come off no wreck as long as I have a say in the matter /The perfectionist. :: Click to zoom ::

Weight of Body Shell
I doubt it's a 1000 lbs ... When I had it stripped - on jacks - I could lift the front of the car with ONE finger. The rear was a pretty easy lift as well, could probably hold it at least a minute on my own I'd say. Anyway, we were 4 (non body builder) guys carrying it onto a truck when I needed to get the Zed to a workshop. Wasn't much of a sweat. The guy upfront carried the car pretty much all by himself once it was hoisted onto the truck. Let me tell you - he ain't Hulk Hogan Here ya go.

Got a little something yesterday Solvent, metal ready, tie-coat primer, metal mask, marine clean, epoxy putty, por patch, por-15 silver, por-15 semi gloss black & por-15 clear. Might come in handy when dealing with this rusty heap

My 71' 240z project ... =)
Thanks Yeah - it's gonna go pretty much along the lines of "stock look" ... I'm definetly not going for chrome rims, lots of plastic, scoops everywhere, neon, aluminium wings, etc... There's gonna be heaps of carbon fiber on it - that's for sure at least By the way, Video Part #3 is out: http://www.voodoo-people.com/~daz/mull/mull@sce3.avi

Stoved away in my garage The car has now been moved from Stockholm to SCE in Norrköping (~170 km). I made a small movie about it... :stupid: :lick: http://www.kazeumi.com/hosted/mull/mull@sce.avi http://racemovie.mine.nu/movies/mull/mull@sce.avi

All the updates are available in Swedish on my project forum: http://forums.voodoo-people.com/mull/index.php You who may not know Swedish - there are a lot of pics in the updates! =) As of now there's only one piece of english on the forum and that's the write up... I think I prefer the one here. It has more pics

My 71' 240z project ... =)
I paid about $2000 for it ... not knowing it was this rusty If I would've known, I'd gotten two Anyway, I got good connections with welders, electricians, tuners, etc so it's not that much of a problem putting it all together again. It's just gonna take a little longer ... It's gonna make one hell of a Z some day :cheeky:

My 71' 240z project ... =)
The story begins here, in Gothenburg... This is my 1971 240z when I picked it up after arriving in Gothenburg from Chicago. E"verything" looked "well" - and met my expectations from the pics in the ebay auction. However - the "rust free" turned out to be a big hoax... Anyway, after getting it up on the trailer and taking it home to Stockholm it was unloaded at a friends company - called Speedworks where I assume most of the mechanical mischief will take place once the car's been restored. The engine was fired up (or rather jump-started since the ignition wires had been yanked from it's original place) - picure below. Vidcap-picture of the car at Speedworks. The engine wasn't running like it was new, but at least it was running. Not that it mattered much anyway - the car wouldn't have made it through an inspection by the swedish "DMV" anyway. As I soon learned, the floor pans were replaced by a hopeless heap of fiberglass, riveted and bolted pieces of metal. Click the links below for images of the so called floor... http://gallery.voodoo-people.com/albums/240z-projekt-Hugo/b12.jpg http://gallery.voodoo-people.com/albums/240z-projekt-Hugo/b13.jpg http://gallery.voodoo-people.com/albums/240z-projekt-Hugo/b14.jpg http://gallery.voodoo-people.com/albums/album185/01_G.jpg I continued to strip the car of... everything. That was the plan from the start pretty much, so a "little rust" wouldn't discourage me. When I removed the dashcap - I was surprised - I have never seen a more messed up dash than this! Anyway - I got in contact with a company called SCE - Swedish Composite Engineering - and they will be helping out with molding/making a lot on this car from carbon fibre. So far the planned parts incluce: The hood, cowl plate, service hatches, front fenders, doors, rear hatch, center console, dash and the tail light plates. Since I don't want to completely "out source" the job I'll be present during the production of the parts, hopefully learning something Since the car was all together nasty, I figured having it sand blasted would be the most reasonable thing to do. Said and done - Doors were sent packing. http://gallery.voodoo-people.com/albums/dag20/00_G.sized.jpg http://gallery.voodoo-people.com/albums/dag20/01_G.sized.jpg http://gallery.voodoo-people.com/albums/dag20/02_G.sized.jpg http://gallery.voodoo-people.com/albums/dag20/03_G.sized.jpg http://gallery.voodoo-people.com/albums/dag23/05_G.sized.jpg I think they came back alright... As did the other small parts I sent every now and then - including the cowl plate, tail light plates, fenders, etc. http://gallery.voodoo-people.com/albums/dag30/01_G.sized.jpg http://gallery.voodoo-people.com/albums/dag30/02_G.sized.jpg http://gallery.voodoo-people.com/albums/dag30/03_G.sized.jpg http://gallery.voodoo-people.com/albums/dag30/04_G.sized.jpg http://gallery.voodoo-people.com/albums/dag30/05_G.sized.jpg http://gallery.voodoo-people.com/albums/dag31/01_G.sized.jpg http://gallery.voodoo-people.com/albums/dag31/02_G.sized.jpg http://gallery.voodoo-people.com/albums/dag31/03_G.sized.jpg http://gallery.voodoo-people.com/albums/dag31/04_G.sized.jpg http://gallery.voodoo-people.com/albums/dag31/05_G.sized.jpg http://gallery.voodoo-people.com/albums/dag31/06_G.sized.jpg http://gallery.voodoo-people.com/albums/dag31/07_G.sized.jpg After a while, there wasn't much more to dismount from the car, looking like this: A rotisserie stand was made by Speedworks, from the blueprints of a friend: http://gallery.voodoo-people.com/albums/dag28/00_G.sized.jpg http://gallery.voodoo-people.com/albums/dag28/02_G.sized.jpg http://gallery.voodoo-people.com/albums/dag28/06_G.sized.jpg http://gallery.voodoo-people.com/albums/dag28/11_G.sized.jpg Since some parts weren't feeling to good, I called in the reinforcements, ordering parts from a company called Meca. Tabco wouldn't even reply to my e-mails even though I had placed an order. Very poor service IMO. Pictures of the actual parts are here: http://gallery.voodoo-people.com/albums/hugo-diverse/delar01.jpg http://gallery.voodoo-people.com/albums/hugo-diverse/delar02.jpg http://gallery.voodoo-people.com/albums/hugo-diverse/delar03.jpg http://gallery.voodoo-people.com/albums/hugo-diverse/delar04.jpg http://gallery.voodoo-people.com/albums/hugo-diverse/delar05.jpg http://gallery.voodoo-people.com/albums/hugo-diverse/delar06.jpg So - that's about it. As of now the car stands knee deep in sand at Allblästring (the sand blasting company) waiting for me to pick it up, but I'm not going to be able to during this week. Bugger More pics: http://gallery.voodoo-people.com/albums/dag32/01_G.jpg http://gallery.voodoo-people.com/albums/dag32/03_G.jpg http://gallery.voodoo-people.com/albums/dag32/04_G.jpg http://gallery.voodoo-people.com/albums/dag32/05_G.jpg http://gallery.voodoo-people.com/albums/dag32/06_G.jpg http://gallery.voodoo-people.com/albums/dag32/07_G.jpg http://gallery.voodoo-people.com/albums/dag32/08_G.jpg http://gallery.voodoo-people.com/albums/dag32/09_G.jpg http://gallery.voodoo-people.com/albums/dag32/10_G.jpg http://gallery.voodoo-people.com/albums/dag32/11_G.jpg http://gallery.voodoo-people.com/albums/dag32/12_G.jpg Parts from ZEDD FINDINGS, yay! http://gallery.voodoo-people.com/albums/dag32/13_G.jpg The front frame rails will be replaced, along with a bunch of sheet metal. I got 4 square meters of 20 gauge sheet metal standing by to fill in all the gaps. Will probably buy a bunch of 18 gauge as well... When all the rust has been cut away and replaced with healthy new metal, the car will be hauled back to sand blasting to blast the welds, etc. The entire car will be painted with POR-15 silver (I know what Escalon [spelling?] thinks of it - but I've been told by the resellers of POR-15 Germany that it'll be fine as long as the surface is rough (go over it with block sanding). I'm being sponsored by the swedish reseller of POR-15, so I reckon It'll be alright. To be continued...
