I have the same problem on my drivers side door... This is what it looked like when it came from the sand blasting company

    Thanks Carl!

    Where can I find these?
  5. That's the first thing that came to my mind as well. Not enough reason to change from 1-piece to 3-piece though, I'd say. If a corner would get damaged, you probably have more damage to your car to get more upset about. It's not exacly a vulnerable spot - like the front spoiler for instance.
  6. If you're sitting on info about the 3-piece design - please share it. I have no idea about why the panel consists of 3 pieces. I might not have been clear enough about that it will be checked properly so it will be compatible with surrounding/existing parts in mind. Neither money nor orders will be accepted until the parts have been made and tested for my car. Might as well point this out. Don't know any prices yet. Check the one I posted on the cowl plate earlier in the thread. That's the only estimate I've gotten from SCE so far.
  7. Opinion: Yeah, that'd be cool made from CF! All CF is sexy :cheeky: Not sure I've seen that on any Swedish Z-cars though... Meaning - I can't borrow it. If I can't borrow it - I can't have SCE make a mold. If SCE can't make a mold... See where this is going?
  8. "Tally" so far (consisting mostly of PrOxLaMuS©'s saying "I'd pay for..." : 1 Hood 1 Fenders 1 Headlight buckets 1 Door Skins 1 Rear Hatch 1 Center console 2 Dash 3 Rear tail light panel (list excluding my own parts) The tail light panel consists of three pieces. These will most likely be welded together and molded - resulting in a one-piece CF tail light panel. I have only shown SCE the three pieces so far - so the 1-piece not might be an option. Meaning: He has no prior experiences of a Z-car and the 1-piece was a simple suggestion as to saving time and labor. I'll try keeping most original mounts. Any objections, reflections or questions on this? "What kind of parts are you thinking about making in quantities of 3-4" I think all the molds of the parts I've mentioned earlier would be able to generate 3-4 finished CF parts. Since I won't be making the molds, I can't say for sure (since no molds have been made yet). Of course SCE can make a "multi-cast" mold that can be used to make more than 3-4, but since the parts were originally planned to be one-off it hasn't been taken into account. Yet. So if interest is great enough for some part, a "proper" mold will be made.
  9. Do you have any pictures of it? Not sure what the BRE spoiler looks like...
  10. I only quote what's currently listed on the listed websites... If the CF dash is ready for production it should be on there? Tried finding it, but didn't - so I stuck with just mentioning the fiberglass.
  11. I thought it would be good to make a thread containing a LINK COLLECTION to carbon fiber and fiberglass parts, so you would not have to look for the links elsewhere like... Oh, I don't know - like in a thread about suggestions on parts to be made from CF? We don't want people getting lost in threads. So here you go folks, a collection of links to people who make parts from carbon fiber and fiberglass - for a living. Yay! Arizona Z-car http://www.arizonazcar.com/body.html Fiberglass: Hoods, rear decks, doors, bumpers, fenders, spoilers, headlight buckets, etc. Beta Motorsports http://betamotorsports.com/products/240BodyComposites.html Carbon fiber: Hood and rear hatch. PDK Fabrication http://www.pdkfabrication.bravepages.com/ Fiberglass: Dash. Reaction Research http://www.reactionresearch.com/280yzgallery.html/ Fiberglass: Widebody kits. Showcars Bodyparts http://www.showcars-bodyparts.com/240z.html Fiberglass: Hoods, rear decks, doors, bumpers, fenders, spoilers, headlight buckets, etc. Spirit Garage http://s-garage.hp.infoseek.co.jp/ Carbon fiber + fiberglass: Hood, rear hatch, cowl plate, etc. (For Spirit Garage, you might want to use Babel Fish http://babelfish.altavista.com/ or brush up on your japanese.) If you have any more links, please post it. Thanks
  12. And the point of my saying was, that maybe after posting "I'm not interested in other people making CF parts" (meaning; please don't post anymore links) what feels like a dozen times - thinking my closing "argument" of post #14 would be enough - it's really frustrating to hear the same stuff over and over and over and over again. My apologies for getting annoyed I first figured, since classicZcars.com is one of the biggest Z-car forums on the internet, this would be a good place to ask for suggestions for parts to be made from CF. Also, since this forum isn't made up entirely of americans and aussies - I would be able to target some european users who might be interested in CF parts. I feel like this whole project has been blown out of proportion from the posts made by some members - I'm in no way starting, or pitching, a CF business aimed at the 240z-community! The parts will be made made in a limited edition of 3-4 parts - since a larger quantity would require more from the molds. The idea was simply to get user input and ideas - and maybe reproduce some of the parts for sale. To cut to the chase and answer your question without the; "I'm-not-a-business-and-I-asked-for-this-and-not-that-chit-chat": Yes. If those who are interested - still are, after hearing the shipping quote - then yes, I will ship internationally. Either using UPS or "Posten" (Swedish USPS). I'll get shipping quotes once the parts have been made, as I don't know the weight of the finished parts yet. Thanks. /Philip
  13. Your 280z isn't the 2+2 right? That's the 280zx - correct? Haven't been studying 280z's that much to know for sure... Better to ASK than ASSUME :classic: The parts I have in mind for my car are these: • Hood • Cowl plate • Front fenders • Light buckets • Taillight panel • Rear flares • Center console • Dash • Doors • Hatch edit: Practical? What is practical? Is having a Z in any way practical? As with pretty much everything - it's in the eye of the beholder. I'm having these parts made since I "crave" the weight reduction. That, and the fact that I have a sponsor - who'll get tons of publicity though me and my car. I'm a well known member on a swedish car forum that sports 19 000 members, nearly 180 000 threads and close to 2 000 000 posts. My project thread has so far had a tad over 30 000 views since November 18th (2004) - and I haven't done much but tear the car down, prepping it for cutting away rust and sand blasting. Considering the amount of views the thread has had - it's interesting from a sponsors view - especially since I photograph and film the process of restoring my Z. So there's a bit of background to why I have a sponsor... I scratch his back - and he'll scratch mine. I leave it up to you to decide what's practical and what's not. I can't imagine the center console saving alot of weight when comparing the plastic to CF. In that case however, it's more the looks I'm after. That, and getting rid of my broken/drilled up (swiss cheese style) center console... :knockedou
  14. I'm not surprised to hear about the vettes... Even better, the C5 Z06 has floors made from BALSA WOOD covered with fiberglass Cool cars nonetheless :rambo:
  15. Did I ever claim to?
  16. I was asking ideas for CF parts that might've slipped my mind. If I liked the idea anyone was posting I'd get it molded - and make one or two extras of it since the person posting the suggestion most likely would want to have it too. The molds can be used to reproduce the part molded 3-4 times. Making those extra parts = sharing the mold. I don't HAVE to make extras. Get - it - into - your - head. I'm not running a business.
  17. No one's paying my parts. The (****ing stupid) idea to share the molds with you guys here came to mind first after I was granted sponsorship. So you may continue in portaying yourself as the biggest arse on classicZcars.com if you wish. I'm sorry if you've been ripped off or scammed before - however I can't see that as a legit ground for you to stand on and wizz all over me. I'm not trying to pitch "my" business, I haven't asked for your money, just your ideas - what's the big deal with that? Tell me? If a girl would ask you what your favorite food was (ie. on a date) - would you stand up and scream "You're just asking me so you can put poison in it!!!" or would you answer the siiiiimple f:in question? Edit: I registered to this forum 6 months before you did. Shouldn't that make me more creadible than you? Sure, you have more posts - but from what I've seen of your posting in this thread - I'm sure most of it's the same delusional crap you've been spreading in here.
  18. How come some of you guys are such asses anyway? Is it really so hard to answer a simple question "What parts..." without having to drift off topic, start badmouthing me and what I'm trying to do? I just don't get it. Really don't. Let me quote the start page of this site: Welcome to the Classic Zcar Club! Our club is dedicated to fans of the early and original Datsun Zcars. Feel free to have a look around and stay awhile. We are proud of our Z-Related content. Why don't you make the best of this forum instead being bitches? I can't see how 80% of your posting in this thread is Z-related content to be proud of. Do you?
  19. Harr harr harr, what are you - a comedian? Happy now munchkin?
  20. Then you might think he'd read threads and take note on what the person posting was interested in - and not? I give up. Free posting in this thread for everyone! :cheeky: If someone really is interested in any CF-part - please send me a PM. I'm keeping it one-off till then.
  21. Hi Please quote me on where I'm asking for people making CF-parts!? Pease read the thread before you post - please please please. I've told at least 5 people in this godforsaken thread: I'm - not - interested - in - people - making - CF - parts - since - I - have - a - sponsor - making - parts - for - me! Please forgive me being blunt, and I forgive you for being ignorant and lazy.
  22. Yeah, I think so - the summer nights can get pretty cold up here! I'll be replacing the heater with one from Summit though.
  23. Meaning I'll tell my the guy making the CF what kind of use they'll be put to. He's been making CF parts for his own drag car, and a couple of other cars including this M3 (CF hood and roof) - running 9.32 @ 160+ (rivets are air brushed) The point of this being: He knows what he's doing. It won't come off. I was trying to calm "Alg" down, since he seemed nervous about people getting hurt (as they wouldn't either way crashing?). I dunno, maybe I should just shut the f*ck up and keep it all one-off so you can keep your Z's all-steel and fiberglass? I don't think it's worth all the effort when almost everyone seems to question my motives, the quality of the parts and everything I ask for.
  24. I was hoping "What parts would like to see made from CF?" ... However, people like "Panchovisa", seem to speak what they're full of. There are the occasional bad eggs on all forums , so I think noting of it. Sounds interesting... If you're interested in a one-off of this, send me a PM and I'll get you a price quote the next time I see my sponsor! I don't know much about carbon, but I can't imagine that anything more than one layer of CF would be translucent. I'll check what weave best fits your idea. Please stick to that adios. As far we've seen the fruits of your talent - and it sure doesn't smell good. Rid yourself of your assuming and send me a PM if you have any questions. Free your mind of all those conspiracy theories! As for your sarcastic "question" - I'm bringing my carbon sponsor. What are you bringing besides a bad attitude and attempts to ridicule me? And yes - fyi - he is into the motorsports fabrication gig. The "secret" isn't so much a secret, but a method to get a similar weight/toughness to pre-preg CF - without actually using PP CF. ZG flares are a no-can-do, as I don't have these for molding. Sorry The taillight panel is set to be made from CF, as is the console. Not yet sure if I'm going to have the dash made from CF or not. The molds made will support 3-4 finished CF parts. I'm not interested in making add-on pieces. These are REPLACEMENT PARTS. You replace a 20 kg metal hood with a 1-2 kg CF hood. I never said the parts were going to be made for street cars. Not sure what the US DMV say about CF-parts. If a car is as old as my '71 Z, you're allowed to do just about anything to it. That is, if you live in Sweden. But then again - each to his own regarding safety if your aim is destruction derby. The parts will be built properly. I'll see to that. I won't have my fenders go flying off on their own when doing 160 mph...
  25. I'm not sure I'd wanna make a contribution to the hide-rust-behind-fiber-glass-and-paint community. Sorry. I've had enough of that bullshit on my own Z! Go get yourself some tools and buy some sheet metal and get to work! Are you building a boat or a car?!? If you're gonna fix your Z - do it PROPERLY, instead of kidding yourself with bondos and fiber glass crap! It's like turning the other way, telling yourself that "There is no rust". D'oh... Friend. You're making stuff up. I've never said anything about the background of "my guy". His roots however - are in race cars. But I still haven't said it until now. Go get some Plastic Padding instead mate The side markers are extruded from the chassis, you'd want them covered up with CF? õ_O
