Thomas Hyland's 1974 FairladyZ
This Fairlady was in prime condition. It won 3rd place in the daily driver category. Very clean, very original. He could have easily placed in the stock S30 category.

Thomas Hyland's 1974 FairladyZ
From what I gathered Thomas was in the military and had this car imported from Australia. When I first saw it, I figured it was a 260 with Fairlady badges. This one is authentic down to the Hitachi SU's.

Eric Thompson's 1973 240Z
This was originally a 3 speed automatic, but now runs a 5 speed from a 80' 280ZX with the stock differential. This is my Z by the way.

Eric Thompson's 1973 240Z
View of Engine Bay. Engine modifications: 71' SU's, MSD ignition (behind wiper fluid bottle), MSD coil, Pertronix Ignitor, Flex-fan. Still a lot more work left to do. Still dreaming of a RB26DETT.

Bill Westall's 1977 280Z
View of engine Bay. That's 10mm plug cables. The chrome is a nice touch. Bill's car was immaculate for the show. He ended up getting 2nd in the "daily driver" category.

Lined up for Judging
Also taken after the juding, but used as an establishing shot. There were many Datsun/Nissans. Mostly Z's. Most of my pictures are of S30's though.

This picture was actually taken after the judging, but it works as an establishing shot. My Z is hiding in this shot somewhere.

Clear turn signals?!? I can't find those for less than $130US. I've never seen them on a Z before. They look totally sweet! alien-e

Rear tow/tie down?
I bought my 73' Z from a guy in Arizona. I decided to ship it to Dallas so my Dad could check it out. The guy who hauled it used the hooks on the back bumper to strap it down. When I got the car back into Houston, I noticed that the bumper was pulled down on both sides (more on the right than the left). It turns out, the guy strapped my car down with a chain, which left marks on the rear valence (behind the gas tank) and used so much torque it bent the ends of the frame rails and the sheet metal where the bumper is attached. This would have been covered by insurance, but when it was delivered, my Father didn't notice the damage. I think these hooks were really meant to keep the cars from rolling around when being shipped from Japan and not really meant to have so much torque on them as to compress the suspension in the rear of the car. I'm sure I have some pictures of the damage somewhere. I'll post them if I find them.

Shift knob: what is it made of?
I knew I had seen shift nobs for cheaper than $50.00US somewhere. I searched through my vendor links and found that Motorsport Auto has the best price and selection on shift nobs I've ever seen on the internet. Wonder if I could get it by this weekend... I just bought 2.

Horse hair replacement ?
I'm doing some wholesale interior work and was looking for something to replace the jute in my Z. We searched the fabric stores, and some furniture upholstery shops and the closest thing we got was a %100 cotton and rubber fabric. It was similar to the backing of vinyl. I really liked the properties, but it was too thin (and too expensive to put on multiple layers and get it to the proper thickness). So today, we went to a place that does headliners and interiors and brought a small square of jute. The guy who walked in from their shop looked at it and said "the jute we have doesn't look like that". He did refer to the new material as jute though, so it must be an industry term. It was the same thickness and mostly synthetic (recycled materials). He said it's what car manufactures use. Since it's mostly synthetic, it won't absorb much moisture. I also bought some really thin black vinyl that goes on the metal covers that go over the thresholds of the doors. Looked OEM and I have way too much for my current application. You might find the stuff at auto body repair shops, since some do interiors as well. In fact, this place was right next to an auto body repair shop. The jute cost $5.50US for a yard that was 46 inches across and the vinyl was $12.00US per yard (only one yard necessary).

Fairlady Z 432 - Fairlady Z (33) in background
I got the indication that Nissan buys back their cars from the consumer to recycle as part of a national law (which explains the serious lack of classic JDM cars on the road in Japan). Is it your assumption, Alan, that this Fairlady and all other examples of consumer products that Nissan has in it's warehouse are "used cars" (bought back from the public)?

Fairlady 432 in the window
Huh... should have read the post on IZCC's web site a bit closer. Thanks for clearing that up. Though, I think the car could have used a bit of restoration before it was put on display.

Fairlady 432 in the window
A close up look really shows this car has seen better days. Since the sheet metal is somewhat thinner on the 432, it dents really easy. But it does prove that this particular 432 has probably hit the track more than once. I have more pictures that are pending approval from when I finally got into the gallery.

Fairlady 432 in the window
Well, it was raining that day and we didn't have much time, since we had JR tickets to Kyoto later that day. I did go to the main showroom the next week, but the theme had changed to "Love for Human Love for the Earth" showcasing wheelchair accessibility and low emission vehicles. I did get some pictures of a Datsun Roadster while I was there, but I'm not sure if anyone would be interested in them. Thanks very much for your careful instructions. I found the place with no problems, just a week too late.

Nissan Gallery Cutie
Here is one of the cuties that were running the gallery. You can also see a couple of the postcards on the desk next to the Fairlady Z33 remote control car.
