  1. Hey guys and gals...Boy how things can change the way you want to do things. I needed to get the Z on the road as soon as possible so after having all the suspension torn out and put back in with urethane bushings and tokico lowering springs and hp struts and new ball joints, tie rod ends, brake calipers and drums and shoes and wheels and tires ztherapy carbs and header and exhaust etc etc etc I was nervous but had to take her out to Davenport IA today for a 172 mile round trip because my job had me go up for a meeting. Well IT WAS AWESOME!!! I have only one question for everyone. I know that it will depend on diff gears, wheel and tire circumference etc. but at what rpm does your tach show at 70 mph? Mine was at about 3400. Stock 4 speed trans is in place so I was just curious as to where the average normal Z car's rpm would be? Oh yeah, I still have a long way to go for the car to be done...if it ever will:laugh:   Average miles per gallon was aprox 26 mpg
  2. I LOVE THE VIDEOS!!! I know that it is alot harder than it looks...:stupid: but you guys sure make it look easy enough that I may go take some welding classes at the local community college so I can save alot of money ROFL when I redo the body on my Z. That way all I will have to do is pay someone else to paint it for meROFL ROFL

What part of Japan are living in?

Sakijo I see in your signature that you have the fujitsubo exhaust system. Is it the stainless steel one? Would you be able to ship one to the US for me (except it would be for an S30 instead of a KGC10)? If it is possible could you get me a cost for both a stainless system including header and a mild steel one including header?

If I had that much laying around I would fly out to Japan and search in person!!!(I miss being there) I have very much thought of that. I have this real problem however. I can't buy one and just put it on a trailer and show it. I HAVE TO DRIVE IT and experience the thrill of owing one of the coolest cars on the planet. (IMHO) That is why I would not have too much problem spending 15-25k on a REALLY NICE 71-72 Hakosuka Skyline GT or GT-X 2 door or 73-76 Kenmeri GT or GT-X 2 doors of course that have been modified to look like GT-R's

As a matter of fact I did get to see them in person many times. There is really no way to explain what it was like...incredibly LOUD. They tried to take off just as it was getting dark (to put on a show I guess) and then watching two huge blueish afterburners streaking off into the night sky. It all lasted about a minute or so from takeoff to out of sight. (sorry for the off topic reply...just had to oblige a fellow Z'er)

When I bought the GT, I was in the Air Force stationed at Kadena AB, Okinawa and even in 1981 those were very rare so It was unique back then but...even more so when I brought it to the states in 1982. I would agree with you to that point. Especially nowadays. Unless you were a car nut who had friends who new about the GT-R's and what they were, at least here in the US nobody had a clue or even heard of a Skyline other than an occasional article in Car and Driver or similar magazine saying how cool it would be to have one but... it is only for the Japanese domestic market. I didn't even realize until a couple of years ago that they were sold in Austraila? Thanks to movies like The Fast and the Furious, now everyone seems to want a Skyline GT-R. (let the flaming begin)While some people feel that the car is overrated, I personally have a great respect for it and am trying to convince my better half to let me get one. I just don't think I could afford a true GT-R even in the years I would like. ( I don't want an R32 or newer) I'm not even sure I can afford another GT or GT-X or GT-R clone. Although if the information that "EricB" gave us holds true (I have no reason to doubt it) a GT, GT-X, or GT-R replica is alot more affordable than I was thinking. Sooo it is time to sweet talk the wife!!! After all it does have a back seat where as my Z doesn't:laugh:

Yes it was original. That one was only a GT. Even tho I can't afford a "true GT-R" I would now take a GT-X that someone made into a GT-R lookalike. I'm not proud. I ljust like the looks of the body styles of the 71-72 Skyline 2 doors and also the 73-76 2 door Skylines.

Unfortunately it probably won't happen as quick as I would like it to cuz the wife would not let me have two projects :stupid: (the Z for some reason doesn't bother her a whole lot???) I am probably still a couple of years before I can get one (maybe). This would be my second one. I have pictures of my first one here in the US back in the early 80's in my gallery.

THANKS!!!!  Now I have a warm fuzzy feeling and will be looking to take out a loan on my 401k so I can have another Skyline legal here in the US!!!. ARRRGGGGHHHHH. Seriously, Thank you for the information.

I hear ya!!! I would like to find some one who could import an older 72-76 Skyline for me at a much more realistic price.
  12. There is a company called JTR "Jags That Run" that supply radiators for V8 swaps in our Z's. I found that what they said made alot of sense to me. I am thinking of going their route when I upgrade my cooling system. here is a link to their web page: http://www.jagsthatrun.com/ you will need to scroll down about halfway down the page on the right hand side to where is says " http://www.jagsthatrun.com/Pages/Parts_DATZ_Radiator_Kit.html " I found it very interesting. Hope this helps!

I heard rumor that Motorex is going out of business. Not sure how true that is.
  14. I was wondering what the indentation was for on my dash next to the hazard togle switch? I would also be interested in 1 or 2 ( in case I get a bout of butterfingers trying to put the first one on)
  15. Dave, Got it in the mail todayLOL THANKS. Unfortunately it won't be until later this week before I get it installed. :tapemouth :tapemouth :tapemouth If it helps half as much as the headlight harness does I will be in 7th heaven. Thanks for the excellent products you make/made for us... If you guys don't get these while he is making them you are missing out.
  16. No worries mate (As they might say down under) When it gets here is cool with me.
  17. IT AIN'T THAT WAY NO MORE!!! The Z in my avatar is the same car! I also have the Tokico Springs and struts in it and it sits pretty level. I had to replace the rear strut tube assy do fix it tho.

Me too. After having a 72 GT here in the US in the early 1980's I want another and wish I could save this one EXCEPT He is smokin crack or something to get that much for a fake and admittantly not complete. While he is including quite a few extras with the sale I just don't see it worth what he is asking unless it is complete and driveable from where it is. Just my .02 worth
  19. Another possible cause although I hate to bring it up...is the possibility that the PO may have replaced the strut assy with a later model (260/280) which are taller and larger diameter. I am only bringing this up because when I bought my 72 Z it was opposite of yours. The rear end of mine looked like it came from a rallye car. See attached Picture:tapemouth I hope that this is not the case for you. 240 z 2a.bmp
  20. I have switched several of my older high mileage cars over to synthetic with none of the issues. That is not to say you didn't. When you switch from regular oil to synthetic and your gaskets start leaking(bad/worn out), then your gaskets would have leaked with regular oil also except the leaks were plugged by all the sludge and crap inside. That sludge and crap can come loose anytime and cause internal problems, its just that synthetic does what it is suppose to. Keep it clean and well lubricated. So yes to a point, what you say can be true. I'm just saying it hasn't happened to me and it might not happen to the next guy either. I know you were just giving your opinion as was I and I mean no ill will to you!
  21. I Disagree. Any time is a good time to switch to synthetic! Partially true, It does have higher detergents that may loosen sludge and deposits that are currently in your motor and possibly HIDING potential leaks which is why they (synthetic oils) have been blamed for making gaskets leak. In reality, Synthetic oils do not react with gaskets and cause leaks. Synthetic oils prevent sludge buildup better and keep the internals cleaner and better lubricated. If it will help it last longer with less wear, why is it a waste? Again, why is it a waste? I don't see how? Just my $.02 worth and IMHO
  22. You are sooooo right!!! I hesitated when the price went up but got lucky and managed to get one before he quit making them. TOP NOTCH, AMAZING DIFFERENCE to the head lights and dash lights. Please keep us posted Dave. Oh yea, COUNT ME IN ON THIS!!!

Sounds like it might be a possible clogged or partially clogged fuel line or inlet line in the fuel tank. Any rust in the tank?
  24. Wasn't the NISSAN race header that was available in the late 70's early 80's here in the US the same design? I thought that they made two different models, one similar to the MSA 6 into 2 and one like "NZeder's"? Both of them fit LHD Zeds. History buffs anyone? HELP
  25. Did anyone ever get measurements to verify that it would or would not fit in a LHD Zed? I saw quite a few of this style exhaust when I was in Japan quite a few years ago and would really like to replace my system with one if it will fit!
