Hey, I want a manual transmission Z car that is running, or could be running with a little work. Looking for one that is under 500 because I'm cheap and would like one that I can work on.
  2. Not really sure, actually. Yes, sig says that. I should change it to "Want a 240/260/280" shouldnt I.
  3. Forgot to add....the 260 also has 4 piston calipers. Yeah, I think that's what he said. Apparently the 260 has been around the block a few times. I have enough to afford the cars, I'm just kinda hesitant to buy. Im going to see them this Sunday, probably.
  4. Stumbled upon a good deal (maybe). Here is the scoop: 1978 280z: black primered, floor pan rust, new tires, new front air dam, new carpet, runs 'as good as a top'. 5 speed 2.8, stock. 1974 260z: stripped down, solid body, supposedly no rust. Chassis has bigger sway bars, lowering springs, LSD. Body has an aftermarket air dam. Also included: (3) 2.8 engines, 1 with a thrown rod. (3) 4 speed transmissions. 1 set of 4 wheels. (2) sets of headers. Other miscellaneous parts. Total: $950. Whats the scoop...do I go for it?
  5. Want to buy a 240z in the Clarksville/Nashville/Hopkinsville area.
  6. Yep, MSA. Good call on that one, its multicolored onyx and says 240z
  7. Im looking at buying a 73 240z 4 speed and the shift knob is weird. It like...marble, or some sort of rock and its really heavy. On top it says 240z in gold I think. I cant find it online anywhere, anyone know what it is?
  8. Sounds like the Weber conversion. Anyone know how much power that frees up, and would upgrading to the earlier SUs be beneficial ?
  9. Im about to buy a 73 240z: maroon, sunroof, 4 speed, new front end of some sort with foglights, 3 piece spoiler, and some cool rust spots. Engine wise: has aftermarket carburetors (2 chrome boxes off the side, what kind are they? any idea?) and supposedly an aftermarket intake. Also has a positraction/lsd rear end, not sure of the gearing....getting it for 400 dollars

I know that insurance varies a lot and you cant ever really put a number on it. I'm just wondering how much it would be for a 240z with a 17 year old kids name on the title. Full coverage, or just liability. Thanks
  11. http://www.geocities.com/zgarage2001/z.html I read all through that site and want to talk to him more, but cant find out how to reach him. Anyone know? Thanks

No car from the factory looks like a drag car. Drag cars have slicks, skinnies, and blowers out the hood. Hondas dont look like drag cars either, but they are raced all the time. I take all aspects into account when I consider buying a car, not just going around a corner, which is still a big part. A 240z wouldnt be that fun of a car with no power now would it? Stony apparently cares about drag racing, he ran an 11.1 in the 1/4 with a RB26DETT swap. So people do drag race them. Regardless, thanks everyone for the replies, thought they were a little quicker. .

Heh, guess none of you guys run the 1/4 in stock form, or the 1/4 at all for that matter. :classic:

So what does a stock 4 speed 240Z run in the 1/8 and 1/4?

Hey everyone, I just registered because of my quickly growing interest in Zcars, primarily the 240Z. I am looking to get one and was wondering what the typical 1/4 and 1/8 mile times are, along with trap speeds and the other typical information involved in drag racing. I realize that they come with L24 engines, the 2.4 liter inline 6, and have read about L28 swaps. If I swapped in an L28, I would want the turbo engine (which is in the 280, right?). A boost controller can be used on this, right? Just trying to learn more before I make a costly mistake, thanks. I did a search and came up with a little, but these are small non time consuming questions so I figured I'd try asking.
