  1. dogma420, For reference, $300 AUS is about $200 US, and I don't know what classic datsun or MSA charges for shipping to OZ, but I'd guess it's more then $50. BW
  2. I also am having my 280 run very rich. I have checked the archives and think I have some idea but would like some direction. It smokes slightly when the throttle is depressed and has a heavy gasoline smell to the exhaust. It also with stutter or backfire if reved hard. At highway speeds on decelleration it seems rough. My valves have been set recently. My timing is a 0 with no room for adjustment - Might I be a tooth or 2 off on the timing chain? Could this affect my symtoms? Also I have an aftermarket fuel rail, and I think the configuration is not right. It has a T style fuel regualtor with a guage at the firewall and the fuel return line exits there. The far end of the fuel rail has a plug in in instead of a fuel return line. Maybe too much gas is being sent to the rail and has no place to exit except thru thr injectors? It has been in this config as long as I have owned it. I am planning to add a line from the end of the fuel rail to a T below the output of the fuel regulator to see if this helps matters. I am planning to use the information in the forum to check/adjust the AFM but want to rule out anything else major before doing so. Any help would be great, as my car is almost drivable and I am anxious to AutoX it. Bw
  3. Hey TexasZ, If you were in Dallas I have a 5 ton engine hoist and engine stand you could borrow for as long as the job took. Lemme know if you head up here in a pickup. Bw
  4. The K1's have a good rep in autox. Light and strong. The Miata and Civic SI guys use them a lot.
  5. ?!!? Geography major, I presume?
  6. For those who remember this sorted saga, blown motor, broken exhaust stud, broken head bolt and... put a $150 low milage 42 head from zcarparts in Houston (Thanks Kin!) on a $50 motor from some kids garage and what do you get, 170, 170,170,170,170,165 sure beats 120, 20, 80, 120, 20,10 running a little rich, I'm troubleshooting that now. Gots loads of usefull t-shooting info for dealing w/ that (search function still works well ) I'm suspecting water temp sensor/plug and a broken wire on the afm at the moment. Thanks all for your help. Bw
  7. Won't you still have to get them mounted if you buy them from these guys? :classic:
  8. I think I have it narrowed down to a selectively sticky throttle cable. (yes cable) It articulates properly except it binds the last few centemeters and sticks open enough to make the crazy high idle. I cranked it down so I would idle really low and it seems to act a bit better. But there is still an issue with it binding and def. something wrong w/ the motor. I either have a mechanical problem or an exaust leak bc it just sounds awful. thanks for your replys, it's always something easy (?) more work to do... Bryan
  9. I finally have my second motor in my car, go to start it and... it turns over, starts, idles ok for a second and starts reving like it taking off to outerspace. I had to kill it. tried again, same thing. Odd thing it didn't run rough (ie bad timing) and it started right up, it just wanted to rev up like a dyno run without my foot on the gas. Its a 280 with FI and pretty much everything have been apart, so I just need to know if anyone knows what I should look at to narrow this down. I hope it didn't damage the motor... HELP HELP HELP any one in Dallas is more then welcome to stop by and check it out, It's quite a sight at present... Bryan:mad:
  10. That seems high. Is that with or without the neon rims? Azenis sports in 14" can be had new for $176.00 plus shipping http://www.vulcantire.com/azenis_t.htm

Born & raised in Wichita KS. Headed south on 35 a month or so after I graduated high school, drove thru Oklahoma till I found some place habitable, been living in Dallas ever since! Bryan W
  12. If you suspect the rear bar is too stiff, pull it off, and replicate the issue. If the symtoms are unchanged or aggrivated it is most likely bushing, struts, or both. If it settles down with out the rear bar, go for a smaller bar or none at all. Replacing the bushings and struts is a good idea any way though. Bw

the seats I have are corbeau similar to the 'baja' they are black vinyl with a grey cloth center. They have a good fit and keep me planted. I'm thinking if I ever were to worry with sprucing up my interior I'd have the centers recovered in black vinyl with chrome grommets similar to the ford gt 40 seats. After I get the mahogony moto-lita wheel etc that is... you know how hi-tone I am.... Bryan

Did you ever do something with that boring white car? :-)

those are super-cool in the highest gt40 kinda way. I like the corbeaus I have, very comfortable, don't look out of place and hold be in place. I guess I'm alone here though... but no one would call my car stock, either Bryan
  17. I haven't noticed too many of my 350 buddies leaving there motors alone. Nismo exaust, more power blah blah. we are all dorks with cars who like to tinker. But the 350z guys cars are running...I can't quite say the same. Of course my car cost 4 of there car payments... but what can I say.
  18. I would agree with all of these statements, except I would say I think that sports cars are where you find them. The srt4 and wrx both are quirky, have character (good or bad), and are quite demanding to drive. None of these cars would gave that feeling like passing the pack at lemans just driving from stop light to stop light, like the Z does - but they didn't make my ears ring. my eyes water and my clothes smell like a tailpipe either.. I like the 350Z, not in the early 911 (or s30) sense but in the 928 (300zx tt) sense. Its just a different type of car. Bw
  19. ZCOT, north Dallas here.

Here a link to a white one along the same vein as the other. I lost the link where those pics were located: http://www5a.biglobe.ne.jp/~satotats/zhp/
  21. Great Alan, 240zx. Now I have Cheap Trick stuck in my head to the tune of "the Z Police" That'll take some work to get rid of. :cheeky: Bryan
