  1. Thanks for the qwik reply. The part number on the box I have matches. It is 27470-89901. Looks like I have an NOS 240z washer bottle. I guess I will take some pics and advertise it for sale. I'm not going to use it and I know someone restoring one could put it to good use. So what's it worth these days?
  2. Hey Guys, I have been going through my parts stash and found an NOS washer bottle. I need to know the correct part number for the 240Z washer bottle to know if what I have is in fact for a 240Z. It looks to be one as I remember them. If you know the part number, please let me know. Thanks! David

  8. So I found this sweet Z and I was hoping that I would restore it but I have too many projects so I am letting it go. I thought I would share it with you all. 1971 Datsun 240Z. Garage Find. Found from the Original Owner and has been in storage for almost 20 years. 94xxx Original Miles. Car is original and unmolested. L24 with E31 head, 4 speed transmission and original dealer installed A/C. Exterior: Body is straight and does not appear to have had any major collisions. It was repainted many years ago and the paint is faded and is checking in areas, especially on the hood. The body has minimal rust on it. The floors, spare tire well, quarters and rockers are in good shape. The lower front fenders do have some rust that will need attention. The area under the battery also has an area that will need to be patched. One small area under the passenger seat too. Other then that, there is surface stuff here and there. Interior: The inside is in really nice condition, The Headliner, sunvisors, door panels, interior vinyl and seats are very nice. Other then a few tears on the drivers seat, the interior is great.. The dash has one minor hairline crack. Other then that, the dash and gauges, etc. are nice. The carpets look to have been replaced and are all in good condition. Even the chrome strips on the door panels are all there and nice. The Vinyl on the trans tunnel, and the rear shock towers, etc are super nice. One of the nicest original Z interiors I have seen. Engine: It has not been run in a long time but with a jump start and some starting fluid, it cranked over fine and ran on the starting fluid. Brakes: The brakes seem to work and stop the car. Tires and wheels: a matching set of Bridgestone tires are mounted on the original steel wheels. Tires are old but are holding air and have good tread. 2 original hubcaps are included. Original Owners Manual, warranty book and card and the jack and tools that are original too. Original Datsun keys too. This really is a nice unmolested example of an early Z car. Hard to find, especially on the east coast. I am sure this car could be made a driver with little effort. Clean out the fuel system, change the oil, fresh battery, new points, etc and it should be drivable.   9. Hi Carl, This is David. Yes, you hooked me up with Jim, the previous owner of the car back in 2003. I met you here on ClassicZcars and also at the Zvention in Daytona in 2007. I thanked you in person then for helping me find such a sweet car. I knew if I had told you back then that I had planned to "Highly Modify" the car, you might not have turned me on to it. . I spent many thousands of dollars turning it from a sweet underpowered Z into a 21st Century Supercar. Here is the picture I think you are remembering. I recently got separated from an almost 20 year marriage and found that I had lost interest in the Z and it sat, unloved in my garage for almost 2 years. Lee is a great guy and a true car lover that I have helped to convert into a real Datsun guy. He is a worthy caretaker of such a special car that I poured my heart and wallet into. "You never get back out of them what you put into them" I had a lot of fun with the Z for almost 10 years but my true love is the 510 and I have 7 of them right now. It is a sickness I tell you.

  11. Hi guys, I am in Maryland and have a 240Z. I am also the coordinator of the East Coast Datsun 510 meet that we hold every year at Summit Point Raceway. You all are welcome to join us. All Datsuns and their owners are welcome to join us. Here is the info on the meet. Hey all you Datsuns and 510 lovers, Are you ready to party East Coast Style? The 12th Annual East Coast Datsun 510 meet is finally scheduled. This year, we will be returning to Summit Point Raceway in Charles Town, WV the weekend of May 16 - 17 - 18, 2008. Yes that's right, we'll be back at Summit Point once again for a weekend of Datsuns, Dimes, Racing, Camping and Fun, Fun, Fun! The racing venue for the weekend is THE SCCA Nationals. We have been invited there by the Washington, DC chapter of the SCCA. The event is one of the SCCA Northeast Division races that qualify racers to compete at the Runoffs at Heartland Park Topeka. This is the only time the races at Summit Point count toward Runoffs qualifying. The cars competing will be SCCA race cars from all SCCA National classes. It will include the fastest from the Division. Around 250 cars should be there, so the weekend will be a good one. In addition to the great racing schedule the SCCA has set up, we are trying to work out details for lunchtime track laps and a party Saturday night with the SCCA Racers. We will also be doing the Datsun Gift exchange again this year so set aside a cool Datsun item that you would like to trade in the gift exchange. (Gift Value should be less than $20) The admission to the event actually went down this year. The admission is $25 but it you tell the gate keeper that you are with the Datsun Club, you will get a $5 discount. The admission covers a 3 day pass to the facility and the races. Your campsite is included in the admission price. We are working hard to make sure that this years meet will be a 510 event to remember.     I am a member of both forums but I don't frequent either one much. I also own several 510's and I seem to spend more time on the 510 sites. I own a 72 240Z. When I first got it, it had an L28 with dual SU's, a header and mild cam. It also had upgraded suspension with coilovers and tokikos, camber plates and strut tower bars. I loved the feel of the L28 but yearned for more power. I went back and forth over the great debate "to V8 or not" and when I asked this list for advice back in 2003, the general consensus was that if I swapped a V8 into my 240Z I would be "bastardizing the car" "How could you ruin that beautiful car with a V8", etc. I finally did decide to do a V8 swap. I ended up installing a 2002 LS1 motor and a six speed. I am so happy with the final results. The car is a blast to drive. I left the motor stock and used the factory computer. It is a super car that has great power (340RWHP), handles great, is very reliable, gets great gas mileage (I got 28MPG coming home from the Mitty last year) and requires very little maintenance. I received tremendous support from the members of Hybrid Z. Yes they are very strict on that list. The do not like to answer questions that have been asked before since they have archived all the info and you just need to search for it. Doing a project Z requires you to study and research lots of info. It is all there for you to read. If you can't find it, they will help. In my opinion, this list is more for the purists and that list more for the modifiers. I like both lists. I like both types of people. I have attended two Z car conventions with my car. 2003 in NH and 2005 in Syrcuse. In 2003 my car still had the L28 and in 2005 it had the LS1. Alot of the same people that complimented my car in 2003 were complimenting it in 2005. I did hear a few nasty comments from a few real purists but even some of the diehard purists had to compliment the quality of the swap. I plan to attend the 2007 Z car Convention in Daytona this October too. In an interview several years ago, Mr. K was asked, "if you could change one thing about the original 240Z, what would it be?" Mr. K responded " I would have given it more power" I wonder if any of the purists have ever driving a quality converted V8 Z car. I bet if they had, they may have to change their minds or at least ease up a bit. There are way more Z cars on the road then there are 510s. The 510 crowd is just the opposite. The more mods the better. Modifying a 510 makes it a better, more desireable and more valueable car. Of course the quality of the mods comes into play. Same with the Z car. A cheesy swap is garbage but a quality, well planned and well executed swap can enhance a Z car to a new level. I consider my Z car on the same level as many of today's exotic Super Cars. Power, handing and a classic body. Whether you have a stock Z or a modified Z, we all have one common thread. We love the Datsun Z cars. That' s my take. Your opinion may differ. That is what makes us individuals.
  13. Hey, You are supposed to start high and come down. You can't go back up. If you saw the rusty ones I saw that sold for $2000-$2500 around here you would agree this one is worth $3000. I am negotiable to a point.
  14. If you read my post you wouldn't keep referring to it as Rusty. Really, this car has minimal rust. I have seen some Cali cars that have rust too. As for the price, I have seen rusty Cali cars bring more on eBay.

The car is an east coast car and they do tend to bring more that the west coast because of several reasons. Mainly there are not too many left here on the east coast. If you wanted a west coast car here on the east coast it would cost you $1000 or so to ship it here. Also, I don't know about you but I probably would not buy a car without seeing it first so add another $300 or so for a RT plane ticket to Cali and a few hundred more for a hotel and food and a rental for a few days while you go around and look at cars. So this adds about $1500 to the price of a Cali car. You guys out west are spoiled. So if you take off the $1500 then this car would be $2000 in Cali. Also, The price has just been reduced to $2950 or Best Offer so that puts it at $1450 in Cali. I currently own a rust free 72 240Z from Cali (see it here:http://www.cardomain.com/id/qwik240z) that I spent almost a year looking for (thanks Carl Beck) and I have several other Datsuns now and have owned several other 240Z's in the past. I am not an expert but I do have enough knowledge of them to know where the common rust areas are and I have inspected these areas on this car and shown them in the pictures I provided. If I had gotten this 240Z that is for sale prior to starting my swap on my current 240Z, I would have used it myself as I know it is a solid starting point. When I was shopping for a 240Z for myself, I looked at many Z's in this area and didn't find one that was solid enough for me. As for the condition of this car, Most of the rust is surface rust. The kind that can be removed with a wire brush. It appears to look worse in the pictures. As stated in my description, the passenger floorboard will need to be worked on but other then that the rust appears to be surface rust. As for the body, it is realatively straight. It does have a new hood on it and the doors, fenders and rear quarters are good. All the glass is good too. The interior is very dirty but it is all there. The drivers seat is torn but the rest appears to be all together. The dash is mostly good. No cover on it. There is a 3 inch crack on top in the center and a small nick next to the clock. The carpet is shot and will need to be replaced. As to getting it running, I would plan on flushing the fuel system, cooling system and brake lines, clean the carbs, change the oil, trans and diff fluid, change the plugs, get a fresh battery and disassemble, clean and reassemble the brakes. Then once I got it running, I would replace the clutch as this is the reason it was parked. The price has just been reduced to $2950 or best offer as I really don't want it to sit out all winter. Hey, I could donate it to a charity and take a $5000 tax writeoff for it. NADA low value shows $5500 for a 240Z and you can deduct up to $5000 without an appraisal.   17. This is a find! Original, straight, unmolested Series one 1971 240Z. Feb. 71 production date. Silver with black interior, E88 head, A/C, 4 speed, American Racing slotted mags. The Car is Located in Maryland, Near Washington, DC. The previous owner bought the car in 1993 from the original owner and drove it for 6 months before parking it in his garage due to a bad clutch. This car has been sitting in a dry garage for the past 11 years. Amazingly, it has very little rust and would make for an excellent hybrid, restoration or race car. I wish I could keep it but I have too many projects. The car has very little rust. I inspected it today (12/04/04) and took a lot of pictures of all the common rust areas. Here are the findings: Battery tray and under the battery have some surface rust. The frame rail under the battery has some surface rust. The bottom of the front fenders has some surface rust. The drivers floorboard has some surface rust but no holes. Very solid. The passenger floorboard is the worst of the entire car. It seems that maybe the heater core or the A/C must have had a leak at some time. It has some areas that look like they would be small holes if you started to pick at them. You should figure this area will need attention. The rockers are solid. The doglegs are solid. The rear quarters are solid. The flat rear panel in the hatch area has some surface rust at the edges. The Interior is in OK to fair condition. The entire inside is dirty and needs a good scrubbing. It smells of mildew. The dash is very good. One small crack in the center on top (2-3" long) and a small nick next to the clock. The door panels are good except for they will need a major cleanup. The chrome strips on the door panels are peeling off. The carpet is old and frayed. The drivers seat has several tears on the seat bottom. The vinyl on the trans tunnel and the rear wheelwells seems good. I do not have anywhere to store this car inside and it is a shame to leave it outside over the winter. I want it to go to a good home where it will be loved and cared for. I am not in a hurry to sell it and I do not need the money. The Pics I took are in a very large format so I will get them posted soon. I can email them but if you don't have a broadband connection it will take forever to download them.
