  1. I'm old school All I listen to is 60's & 70's My radio in my Z doesn't get used much though. Nothing I enjoy more than hearing my L28 Roar.
  2. Isn't it amazing the junk you find from previous owners? Mine was pretty clean. All I found in mine was a cigarette lighter and a receipt from a gas station where he bought gas, food, and a car wash
  3. Enrique nailed it with his response. The Z Car is a blast to just drive and is plenty quick stock when they are in healthy shape in my opinion. You'll be doing more cruising on the streets anyway so 200 MPH is not only crazy expensive, but not necessary. Your focusing on racing honda's for gods sake. Not vipers I say enjoy what you got and focus on getting it safe & reliable for normal road use. A classic car hobby is for sure not cheap like already mentioned. Keeping up a nice stock original classic car will keep you plenty busy and will take plenty of your cash as it is. You need to store them during winter season, have a winter/daily driver which also requires insurance, maintainence ect., Storage place for your car unless your folks are nice and have a spot they can let you use in there garage, license tabs, gas, ect. ect. Having a beautiful classic Z at your age is impressive enough. There are a lot of people out there that would be happy as a pig in crap to just have the car. Anyway best of luck with your new Z. Please don't take this negatively, we are all just looking out for you (Safety and financially) Like Jon Morton said at the end of that 240Z Commercial "There's more to life than just winning races"
  4. I know I know. Just joking around because Ricer's seem to think that if they slap any sticker/decal on there car, fat a$$ tail pipe, large rear spoiler ect. they think it makes it super fast and cool. If they only knew the truth :dead: I know he wouldn't do that stuff, hence why I made the joke in the first place
  5. Na your both wrong. It's the sticker on the side of the valve cover that will produce better lowend power. It's the classic Ricer performance mod Don't take it seriously WingZr0. We know your not a ricer. Just couldn't resist
  6. A tachometer is the only way to perform the test. Like I said above the tach signal that the E.C.U. receives is a square wave. Check Line has some nice ones. Here is the link: http://www.checkline.com/tachometers/?referrer=overture&OVRAW=digital%20tachometer&OVKEY=digital%20tachometer&OVMTC=standard&OVADID=734527521&OVKWID=3729191021 Again, best of luck.
  7. Sounds like the pump checked out OK Sounds like you have gone through all the basics. Here is a copy of my reply to another member that had a no start issue. Don't know if you've checked this yet or not? "what I would do next is check at the E.C.U. and make sure that it's receiving what is called a Tach Signal. This signal that the E.C.U. receives is a square wave and you'll need a digital tachometer to perform this test. Connect your digital tach to the tach lead input of the E.C.U. and crank the engine. If the tach reads anything other than 0, then that means the E.C.U. is receiving the tach signal. If you get 0 then connect your digital tach to the negative terminal of the coil. If you get a reading there then that means that wire from the coil to the E.C.U. needs to be repaired which like I said earlier wouldn't surprise me seeing that mess the P/O made Now if you still get 0 at the negative terminal of the coil, then the primary ignition system needs repair. Best of luck"
  8. aawww man. I can't even imagine what went through your mind when you felt and heard that a$$hole hit your front end. That stupid kid deserves a steel toe boot in the arse. The yung generation scares me sometimes From now on i'd keep her safe in the garage when it's dark and rainy out.

"The second owner had her for 25 years and converted her back from dual Webers to the Hitachi SU's." The second owner made a smart choice there IMO. Welcome aboard. Beautiful find

Normally a bad pump will bypass a driveability problem and will just simply stop operating so typical? no, but it has and can happen and considering your Z sat for months without a gas gap and had some nasty crap ran through it, we are not talking about normal wear and tear here so I wouldn't rule out the possibility.

"ive pulled the fuel tank and flushed it out" Ok, how long has the car sat and how old was the fuel you took out? The bosch L Jetronic uses a Roller vane pump. The roller cell is driven by an electric motor at over 3,500 RPM. This pump is capable of pressure in excess of 100 PSI which is far higher than any engine or F.I. system require. This is why this type of pump is located very close to or even inside the fuel tank because it does such an excellent job at pushing the fuel. My guess is A) it's just tired out internally or is junked up from the old rusty fuel, or C) both. I don't know how far you have gone looking at the fuel pump, but Just a thought.

It's funny how people b!tch about fume issues with there 1st. Gen Z's. I've never had such a problem and my Z is Stock (Not modified in anyway) Hell my Z is even due for a new rear gasket being the orig. 30 yr. old Gasket and still no smell. Not saying it can't happen but I just find it kinda odd. Sure would be nice if mikesolis27 would chime in and give us some more info on what fumes he's refering to? Gas, or exhaust? As far as louvers go- No issues with mine. They are quiet. No rattle or marking the rear window up. I love the way they look and they sure save on the hatch carpet from the sun fading it plus keeps the car cooler in the summer but this is another topic so I won't go any further on the subject
  13. -Tools & Equipment -Daily driver -my little gas power R/C Car (I'm like a big kid ) There fun to screw around with
  14. No negative feelings Carl. Take care Right behind you man. I'm out of here
  15. Hey Carl, I'm not looking for an argument believe me. I consider you as one of my fellow Z Car friends and I'm not trying to go off the beaten path here and take over Shoottathril200's post. If I did in anyway my appologies. I just really didn't agree with the factory Bosch F.I. System in the 280Z's being labeled as "historic junk" and felt the need to jump in and voice my opinion on it thats all. Again, my appologies if I Hi-Jacked the post :bandit:
  16. Glad to hear you feel the same way pal I did have to replace my injectors in my Z though. They got trashed from sitting for so long before I got it and having bad fuel with who knows what additives mixed in it :paranoid: and I wanted FACTORY so I bit the bullet and spent the money on the kit from Courtesy Nissan. The results after all my work though made it worth every dime. I figure I'm going to do it right the first time or not at all Here is what one of the original injectors looked like that I pulled. Pretty bad.
  17. Yeah, our winters up here are pretty bad. Our spring & Summer seasons are very nice though. I only drive mine on beautiful sunny summer days only Yeah, not many around here in MN. I feel like the lone Z'er here "You made a smart move by buying one from AZ." Yeah, sure did Way back when I was looking, I found a yellow ZAP Z first with 56,000 Miles on it from South Dakota and was also in awesome shape (He stored his too) and I came sooo close to buying that one. At that same time, I met this other guy on a different Z Car site (Before I knew this site exsisted :nervous: ) and we got talking and he said he was selling his 280Z in AZ. and it only had 41,000 miles on it and has been sitting for some time (Thats why it needed mechanical attention ). He mailed me very detailed photos and I just fell in love with it. After losing sleep thinking it over which one to get since they were both such gems, That deep blue Z just won me over I loved that color so much, and it even had lower miles on it. Found out later that some guy down in OK. got that yellow Zap Z. so hopefully that one got a good home as well. Anyway thats my story behind it

Needs a truck period. Being a mechanic at an RV dealer, this just made me crack up. You just gotta laugh at some peoples stupidity :stupid: Bonzi, Brakes aren't the issue here. That car was not designed to pull anything like that in the first place. Hell that thing is lucky if it can pull itself much less a trailer
  19. I hear what your saying Carl. An Aftermarket F.I. system would be the answer if your looking to modify/race your Z. You'll get no argument from me there. I'm just refering to a stock, original 280Z engine used for normal street/highway use- the original factory Bosch L Jetronic system is more than adequate and when you get them working properly, you don't need to worry about "Tinkering" with them for a long time and are very reliable. In my opinion they make the L28 perform awesome on the street. Mine sure does Basically what it comes down to is what your going to use your 280Z or ZX for. If your looking to AutoX, race ect. then yes, get a newer aftermarket F.I. System for more performance and easier tuneability. If your just looking for a good performer for regular cruises on the normal streets & highways like me then a stock original 280Z set up is like I said earlier "more than adequate" I.M.O. I love the performance of my stock 280Z. She's damn quick enough for me. I take good care of mine and have a blast just driving it. I'm not out looking to drag race people :paranoid:

  22. Yeah, Arizona has many beautiful 1st generation Z's. Thats where I found my beautiful blue baby. (Gilbert AZ.) My Z stays beautiful and rust free because I keep her stored this time of year. My AZ. Z was always Awesome looking. The way it looks now is how it looked the day I bought it except the Panasport rims I got Ran pretty poor though and I had to give it mechanical attention which didn't bother me:)
  23. Well I guess thats your opinion Me personally, I love the stock Bosch L Jetronic system in my 1977 280Z. IN MY OPINION I think they are pretty simple to work on. Of course I know them really well. I had to do some work on mine when I first bought my Z, but after I got everything up to par, she performs like a champ and runs like a bat out of hell on the highway. This is just my opinion of course. Now I do agree that converting a 240Z to FI is not worth it. If you have your heart set on F.I. then get a 280Z or 280ZX.
  24. HAHA I hope you weren't refering to my replies as one of the "Many" on here playing the guessing game
  25. EEEEK  Another repair well done man Awesome job.
