  1. Bolts??? Should be philips scews securing the injectors in place. At least thats what mine had and my Z is 100% stock under the hood so you got me scratching my head there . Anyway that is a common problem. I was very careful when I cranked on mine for the first time. I gave them a small shot of penetrating oil, let it sit over night then turned very carefully and slow and thank god none of mine broke :paranoid: Yeah, I have no quick easy answer for you on this unfortunatly. Sounds to me like your going to have to get yourself a good tap & die set.
  2. I had to do this fun job on mine about a year ago. Funny thing with mine was my fuel rail developed a hair line crack right at the weld just before my new injectors, 0 rings, holders, ect. came in the mail. Turned out to be a blessing though because that would have pissed me off after going through all that work, then having to tear it all back apart and replace the rail. Definitely got lucky on that deal Since I had everything apart I did everything at once (Did All fuel injected rated fuel hoses, clamps ect.) Trust me this is not a job you want to be doing again anytime soon I won't lie to you it requires lots of patients. This is one of those jobs where it will help you greatly to have a F.S.M. (Factory Service Manual) with diagrams. It's tough to go over every little detail over the computer as there are lots of little steps but I'll try I'm not sure about how much you already know but first off it will help if you can depressurize the fuel system. I cheat on this :devious: I have a fuel shut off switch and I activate that and run the motor till it dies. There is a correct procedure to do this In the F.S.M. but I can't remember the steps off the top of my head. Some people don't bother and just break the hoses loose which I don't recommend. If you do this, be sure you wear safety glasses :nervous: Then of course remove the necessary hoses and remove the screws/bolts securing the main fuel rail in place and the fuel pipes that go to the injectors. Being you got new factory Nissan parts like I did, the new Nissan Injectors come with the new rubber hose already installed on the injectors so do like I did. Instead of fighting to get the hoses on the injectors seperated from the fuel pipes, simply cut the hoses at the center (Be careful if you do this though so you don't hit the tip of the "stems" on the pipes that the injector hoses go onto.) then remove the wire connectors off each injector, remove screws securing injectors to intake remember patients here remove old injectors and holders. Now install the new top & bottom 0 rings onto new injectors. You will want to apply a light oil on new 0 rings (I used 3 in 1 oil on mine.) before you install them on the new injectors. Then install your new injectors and new injector holders, secure all six in place with the screws, reinstall the fuel pipes & rail (I highly recommend that you replace ALL the fuel hoses that connect the fuel rail and fuel pipes togeather at this point since they are all aged as well and replace them with high pressure F.I. 5/16 fuel hose only with new clamps) Like I said before, you won't want to be taking on this job again for a good long while Then I recommend giving your wire connectors a real good cleaning before you reinstall them on injectors. I useda product called DeOxit by Caig which worked awesome. It's the best in my personal opinion. Then after you've put everything back in place like it was prior to disassembly you should now be enjoying a smooth running L-28 The first time you try to start her will bea little tough as it will have to rebuild fuel pressure obviously. After 5 seconds, lay off starter to give it a break then retry again. I did it that way to save on my starter and mine fired up on the second try. Hopefully I covered most of it for you. Others on here that have done this job like me will chime in with good pointers as well. Best of luck, Jared

Exactly. I'm not saying don't check and test other things but I'm still willing to bet that the biggest cause of your Z's problems is due to a fuel flow restriction from crud in the system from sitting. What your describing are the classic symptoms. Just my honest opinion

Ahh another victim of "sitting for a few + years" I realize that you replaced many fuel components and replaced old gas with fresh new fuel and thought that by doing that would solve the problems. Well Thats a start but more than likely not enough. If she sat for 3+ yrs, I'm willing to bet there is crap inside that gas tank and when the new gas gets sloshed around, the junk stuck to the walls/bottom of the tank is going to break free and clog components like filters, injectors ect. I bet the small filter at the inlet of your fuel pump is restricted bad too. have you looked at that one? Another common problem from sitting is corrosion on electric connectors from sitting which will cause lots of running problems on EFI 280Z's (Temp. sensor, thermotime switch, wiring connections to injectors to name a few) I guess I'd start with dropping the fuel tank and have that thing either professionally cleaned or replace it and go through some of the basic things mentioned above then give it another try. 36 PSI is perfect, but what does it read when the idle problem starts? If it drops, it's like I said earlier, The junk is getting stirred up and restricting fuel flow more than likely. Just my thoughts Trust me, taking on a Z or any vehicle that has been parked and sitting for months or yrs. is no small project. Best of luck.
  5. Due to Mother Nature my Z won't be running until late spring either. I don't allow my Z to see winter. All I had left to do on it was to pull out the battery which I did this last Sunday Sorry I don't have a spare 240Z Dist. Johnny'O might have one
  6. I take it all the way to the end where highway 61 comes in in Hastings, MN where I keep my Z stored.
  7. Next spring/summer I'll have to keep my eye out for ya when I'm out cruising in my 280Z.

Thanks for the compliments Mike. Yeah, as others said, they are fragile being 30+ yrs. old. I used my Snap-On small Non-marring prybar to pop mine out Of course it doesn't have to be Snap-On Just showing what I used. Amen to that Ron. Another set of hands will make it much much easier. I did it alone and it wasn't easy. Very frustrating

Yeah, The door panel will have to come off. It was a long time ago when I last did my side view mirror. I got the style mirrors like the 78 Black Pearl Z's came with. Wasn't easy finding those Back when I bought my Z, the head of the mirror was gone on the pass. side. Previous owner told me it went sailing off when he was doing about 70 MPH getting on the highway  Best of luck.
  10. Thats Cool. I've gone through Hudson many times. I have a friend who lives in Roberts, WI. I usually hook into Highway 94 from 95. 95 is a cool road to take with the Z :devious:
  11. Do any of you live in Cottage Grove, MN??? Everytime I take 70th Street going to work there is house on the corner with a beautiful restored 240Z sitting in the garage. It keeps progressing everytime I see it and now it looks like it's pretty much finished from what I can see driving by. Looks very nice. Does this belong to anyone on this site??? Here I thought I was the only one in town with a classic Z Car. I'm happy to see another enthusiast so close to me. Just curious if the owner is possibly on this site. :classic:

Yeah, I agree. The Z is a sharp looking car stock. Those other things are nice for some people (personal preference) but not necessary IMO.

Thanks TomoHawk. Gotta take plenty of photos of my Z to hold me over during the winter months zhead240, I feel your frustration. Mother Nature can be cruel that way It got up to 74 degrees here today. Very odd for November. Jeff G 78, Sorry to hear about your bad luck man. I've had crap like that happen to me too. It's part of owning a classic car I guess. I had to repair coolant leaks on mine too last month. I went to take it out one afternoon and backed out of the garage and saw a nice size puddle on the garage floor and saw the trail down the driveway and thought "awww damn it don't do this to me now". Beautiful day out too and instead of cruising around in my Z I spent that nice afternoon running around searching for parts and wrenching under the hood but oh well crap happens sometimes. Zak's Z, Good to see your still here. Yeah, never a shortage of things to do. With winter approaching, I hope to get on here a little more. Hopefully Take care. Good to talk to you fellow Z'ers again, Jared

Hello Z friends I was out for 180 mile round trip cruise in my Z last weekend and thought to myself "damn what a busy year and boy did the summer season fly by I bet all the guys @ classiczcarclub think I'm dead" so here I am again giving you all a shout to let you know me and my Z are still alive and well. Unfortunately that trip last weekend will probably be the last for the year. I took this photo last weekend when I got back from my cruise getting it all cleaned and prepped for winter storage :( Hope all you guys are doing well and had a great summer season with your Z's. Take care, Jared
  15. There not suppose to "Leak down" If it does you got a problem like a leak somewhere in the system or a bad check valve. This applies to EFI 280Z's however. After seeing your signature, looks like you have a 240Z so your not going to have 36PSI of fuel pressure to worry about when disconnecting a fuel line
  16. Did all mine about a year ago when I replaced all my injectors Make sure you put a little light weight oil on the 0 rings before you install them. I used 3-IN-ONE Oil on mine before installing As for wheather or not you should depressurize the fuel system, Yes. If you don't you'll have a mess
  17. Always a joy trying to track down an intermitten problem :classic: I'm guessing this happens when warm only correct? I doubt your going to be pushing your RPM's 3,000 or higher on a dead cold motor (At least I hope you wouldn't ) Sounds like something is messing up the fuel mixture and causing it to flood out severely when warm. If it were me, I guess I'd start testing things like the coolant temp. sensor, Thermotime Switch ect. any component like those that could cause a fuel mixture problem like that when faulty. Good luck with it
  18. Thanks d240zx2. Man do I ever enjoy her :D:D I got KONI adjustables with lowered springs. I love the way she sits too and I love how I can adjust the firmness of the ride
  19. Damn right. If I see some wizz bum lurking around near where my Z is, I'll show 'em "Minnesota Nice" :rambo::ninja::laugh:
  20. Unless the "Los Banos Blue-Datsun thief" wants to have his arse kicked, he better stay in los Banos :devious:
  21. Maybe similar but not the one. Sorry Neither me or my Z have ever been to Los Banos
  22. Thanks. It was repainted back in 1988. It originally wore the 305 sky blue.
  23. FINALLY got my beautiful Z out for the first time today and for those who read my old thread "I need a Morale Boost" I'm now happy to report that my strong love for the hobby has returned after the long depressing winter. Stronger than ever :D:D After I got my baby out today, I brought her home and gave her a good thorough bath and got her shining like a new diamond again and then went cruising. While on my drive I stopped and snapped some photos of her to share with my fellow Z friends Thanks all for helping me get through my long depressing winter season Now next weekend I'll be doing all the tune up stuff like changing fluids, coolant flush ect.
  24. I'm still waiting for a good rain to wash the streets and get a Battery for her so I'm still waiting
  25. Sounds like a blast Mike Once I'm able to get back behind the wheel of mine, I think the strong love I have for the hobby will return again Can you believe I almost thought about doing the unthinkable and selling :tapemouth This depressing long winter is like one bad arse drug that makes you go crazy and think crazy. Not the good kind of crazy Have fun with your first cruise of the year
