Hello Don, First, welcome to the site. You've come to the right place There is loads of good info. here on Z's. For a 280Z in mint condition, stock, low miles ect. you'll be looking roughly at around $8,000.00 to $12,000.00 for a "very nice" one. maybe a little less if your lucky. Now this is what I've personally seen nice examples of first generation 280Z Cars go for recently. the prices I listed above is not out of a kelly blue book, or N.A.D.A. Just what I've been seeing them go for. Best of luck in your search and being that your already into cars, I'm sure you already know what to look out for as far as problems go like rust :paranoid:

The seller says "I posted this car yesterday shortly after the loss of my nephew who past away in this vehicle" yyyaaaa that'll help him sell it. whatever it is :stupid:
  3. Naaa man it's not that. Sometimes the truth hurts Sorry WingZr0, we know you meant well

hhmmm I see errors 1 for example they call a 1978 a 280ZX 2nd when you click on "1978 280ZX they show this 280Z :http://www.conceptcarz.com/view/photo/80650,6299,0,475/photo.aspx 3rd if you know Z's, look at the bumpers the 280Z shown in the link above. It's a 1975 or 1976. There is more, but Just thought I'd point those few things out BTW, for some reason the link doesn't work. At least for me. It works if you copy it and past it into your search bar.
  6. sorry, I missed this when I made my last post No problem. It will pull that screw right out. You may need a extension on your cordless drill to get in there. set your cordless drill in reverse and go SLOW speed.
  7. Your wasting time with that. Get the proper tool and be done with it You won't be disappointed. I use it both at work and at home and has saved me from swearing more than a few times
  8. There is a simple solution to this problem with the correct tool. This is the set I own. Works awesome at removing stripped screw heads like shown in your photo. http://www.aldn.com/grabit/
  9. Your kidding right Sorry man. I know how it feels to work in a cold garage. You won't be seeing me working in my garage this weekend. Too damn cold.
  10. That makes two of us. Today it's 20 below here and was still dropping the last I checked :dead: This sh!t needs to GO AWAY:disappoin
  11. I guess I should say "There is something to be said about old cars" The newer the car, the more of a pain in the arse they are
  12. You sound like me I keep looking at my digital photos that I took of my Z when it was nice and clean outside and it's making me have major withdrawals which is what made me start this post. When I was at my storage garage last weekend checking on it, it really made me craZZZy Arne, your correct. Even when spring comes I have to wait till the roads are swept and even then I still wait till the first spring rain to flush the streets clean. "I feel your pain..... Today I had to wear jeans instead of shorts to drive my Z....." :hurt: Kind of off topic, but speaking of pain, I went to the drive through to get some lunch the the other day and my daily driver has power windows. I hit the button to roll it back up and got so close to the top and I heard this "klink" noise and down the window went into the door and it was about 10-15 below 0 outside. MAN was that a cold ride home. Seeing the looks I got from other motorist with the window down was priceless . Thank god for my 50,000 BTU heater in the garage to allow me to fix it. There is something to be said about manual windows
  13. The days are actually starting to feel longer again (Daylight) and I went to visit my Z last weekend and GOD I can barely wait to get her out again. I was actually sitting in the drivers seat like a big kid thinking about last summers cruises me and my Z took togeather. All I can say is summer can't come soon enough for me guys Thanks for listening to me vent :nervous:
  14. No problem man, keep up the hard work.

The key is not to feel rushed and be patient and take your time. It will pay off in the long run Also remember that as long as you have your computer and this site, Your not alone Your being smart also by taking breaks when you feel like your getting pissed Take care and keep up the hard work.

I get my Factory filter from Courtesy Nissan which is $6.12 I'd get it locally but the Nissan dealers in my area don't know sh!t about the old Classic Z's much less stock parts for them so I don't trust them to get me the correct parts. Completely new generation Plus courtesy treats me good since I've purchased from them a lot
  20. Yeah, thats just me laying on the creeper taking the finishing photo after I got her all put back togeather.
  21. Well it doesn't really matter which end you lift first. The main thing is knowing where the lifting points are and getting the jack stands in the correct spot To lift the front with the floor jack, lift on the front cross member. To lift at the rear, lift on the differential. (I'm fussy and use old towels on my jack pad to prevent scraping ) For the Jack Stands, they go on the frame rails. The Factory manual shows all this which I recommend you get one for your Z. Hopfully your frame rails are solid though and not rusted out :paranoid: If they are, then a new spot will have to be used. where exactly I'm not sure. Here is a couple photos of mine with the front end up in the air when I did my Ball Joints and Tie Rod Ends last year if this helps at all.

I too have all the equipment but I'm in MN. My Z is still in winter storage So I'm unable to lend a hand as well since your in Texas but anyway, I hope you aren't just replacing things because you think they are bad or the cause of the problem. You'll take yourself to the poor house doing that.

Not to start an argument here, but Stephen's response to how those E.F.I. components work on a stock 280Z IS correct wheather you want to believe it or not :classic: Anyway back to the original posters questions- "Do you know whether the cold start sensor is the same as the FI temp sensor and where I might be able to find the mating connectors?" No such thing as a Cold Start Sensor or F.I. temp sensor. I'll try to clear things up here for you. There are only 2 main temperature sensors in the 280Z Bosch L Jetronic system. One for coolant temp. and the other is for air temp. The Water Temp. Sensor is located at the Tstat housing and the air temp sensor is located in the A.F.M. (Air Flow Meter) Stephen has already explained how these function in his post above so no need for me to repeat it. As for the connectors- are you looking for a injector connector for the Cold Start Valve? If so, Courtesy Nissan has them www.courtesyparts.com "Also, after warm up you can here the fuel pump humming (this is the second pump acting the same) and can smell gas, so it almost seems like its choking itself." If your smelling gas then check for leaks. perform a fuel pressure test if you have the equipment to do so. If not then at the very least do a visual check. For the pump, does this noise happen with a full tank? Reason I ask is because they will make more noise when the fuel in the tank gets lower. Also what brand of fuel pump did you install? Aftermarket or Factory?

The filter is on the inlet end of the fuel pump.
  25. OK, I say lets just end this bullsh!t right here and now. This is going absolutely no where so lets all appologize to each other for over reacting. WE ALL did wheather it's misunderstanding what one person said or a certain someone used words that looked bad over the computer, but wasn't meant to be insulting. Whatever lets just end this PLEASE. I'll start- I appologize if I misread something and I appologize if I got a little carried away on the keyboard. I think we all agree on one thing here and thats that we love our Z's and love talking to each other about them. Lets keep it that way I'm done
