I think the closest Z car club is in Charlotte.... I need help... 77 Z

OK will let you know what is going on as far as my coming to Philly or not. This will depend on how my brother in law wants to handle my picking up the BMW

Bumpers for 76-78 280
Very true on the shipping , I am checking with some guys locally as well as there may be a potiential buyer here. In any event if not then maybe we can come up with some way to get them to NJ..I may be in Philly picking up a 78 BMW 635 later in the month that my brother in law is giving me ..so who knows... 77 Z

Bumpers for 76-78 280
I am removing the bumpers from my 77 Z and would be interested in selling them. Both are in extremely good shape (chrome and all rubber) I have no idea what the value would be..can someone give me an idea, I dont want to make a killing but on the other hand I dont want to give them away either. The center rubber on the front is in excellent condition, all rubber ends are great as well as the front rubber trim on the back of the front bumper..in other words you could take these off my car and immediately install them on another Z 77 Z

Carpet Kits... MSA or Vic Brit?
So far the boat/car guy wants 450 to totally recarpet the interior, including the strut towers which I am thinking of doing something else to. Now this is jute backing with the heavy stitched edges as well as the cutouts for the luggage strap in the back (which I have to find but am not sure if its all that necessary. Now I see a new post that has the carpet for less than 150 which is a major difference. While I plan on driving my Z to and from work and on weekends I on the one hand dont want something in it that is going to have to be replaced too soon, nor to I want to spend a fortune either, but I also dont want to short change the carpet...ah decisions decisions decisions....Thanks for all the input regarding the carpet selections. 77 Z

What model Z do or did you own?
Owned a 78 280 from Dec of 1977 to June of 1993..my pride and joy...like a dummy I sold it ...after surviving the "what the heck did I do that for " period and deciding to wait until the appropriate time to buy another one , it took three years to locate what I was after...and finally in 1999 I found her...a 1977 280, 68,800 original miles as well as the original paint that looked as if the car had never left the showroom..owned by a 72 year old gent who also had a 2+2 version (in Florida with his son)...now I am happy again.... 1978 280 British Racing Green..or whatever Datsun called the dark green, this was the one I sold like an idiot... 1977 280 Champaign Gold (very light gold color) which is going to be changed as soon as I locate the fender and qtr flairs that I want..not sure of the new color as of yet...any suggestions... 77 Z

Carpet Kits... MSA or Vic Brit?
What I am thinking of doing is eventually changing both seats to more of a racing look or the newer style of seats that many of the "tricked out" cars alot of the kids have. As far as the carpet is concerned the more I am thinking of it as well as from what I am reading here the more I think having a guy that I know who does vehicle and boat seat and trim work do the carpet installation. I definitely want something with regards to the carpet that is thick and not what I have seen that has come from the aftermarket companies, while it originally looks good , its thin , wears quickly as well as sheds to a degree. The seats that I am thinking about would be something from Sparco or MOMO...more of the racing look along with 4 or 5 point harness's for both. On the other hand I may have the original ones that look as good as the day they went into the car , redone in a two tone appearance, or just in black as I have them now... Alot of thinking has to go into this, I dont want to make a monetary mistake and then have to re-do the work... 77 Z

Carpet Kits... MSA or Vic Brit?
Very true...with all the tucking that is necessary so that it has a professional look to it as well as factory appearance...Im beginning to delve into the painting arena at this time...just did the rear trim panel and bezels around the tail lamps...came out pretty darn good..in fact a friend who paints for a body shop saw it and ask if I had someone do it as it looked good to him...but the interior work is something that really takes time. Im in the process of looking for a CD player and changing guages on the dash as well as adding some toggle switches and a few extra guages...I havent had this much fun in a long time... 77 Z

Carpet Kits... MSA or Vic Brit?
Tomohawk The installation is the least of my concerns at this point as I am starting to become quite good at restoration...just redid my fuel line and injectors myself which is something I would not have attempted a few years ago... Anyway my main concern is the quality of the product that will be installed. I just want something that is going to last for more than a couple of years and is somewhat fade resistent although the windows will be tinted 20% like the other 280 I previsouly owned... So...its quality not so much installation Thanks for the reply. 77 Z

Colour Schemes
Is the blood orange the color on the new 350's kinda looks bronze or burnt orange...if so I have yet to see it when the sun is totally on the car...might be interesting though. 77 Z On the other hand the tradiitional Z colors would be much better for someone trying to keep the car in some form of originality

Colour Schemes
My first Z(78) was what I referred to as British Racing Green...the very dark green...had the tan interior which I thought would have looked better in black.. My current Z (77) is a champaign gold color forget the color number..its pretty considering this has a black interior and the only other color on it is chrome, wheels , bumpers..so it looks pretty cool... I to am thinking of changing the color on this one...either back to the green of my first one, which as said you do not see too many of or to the yellow of the 2000-04 Corvettes...who knows, one day I want green then yellow then a blus...until I can come up with the color and stick to it the car will remain champaign...but dark green with a white racing stripe did look pretty cool....or with out the stripe.. 77 Z

Carpet Kits... MSA or Vic Brit?
What I am finding is that you can save money on one end ..spend it on the other...depending on what it is that you are purchasing...as far as the carpet goes..I now think I am going to have the local guy that I talked to who does upolstry work on motorcars and watercraft just make if for me...he has a wide selection of carpet that can be used as well...one other thing the windows on the car will have window tint on them which is going to stop alot of fading, the back hatch is 20% with limo tint on the two qtr glasses...so as said that will stop an enormous amt of the fading that some have discussed.. Thanks for the responses 77 Z

tan interior pics?
Depending on what color you are going to do the interior in ..the more cleaning that will be necessary... All I did when I changed the color of off white seats to black..was to remove the seats from the car..wash them off , dry them then let them finish air drying...once dry I sprayed them with a gloss black upolstry dye..which I picked up at either Autozone or Advanced Auto....worked very well on my Z 77 Z Not that I buy many things from either of the above but NAPA was not open nor was the Auto Body paint supplier that I go to for odds and ends open....the guys at the other two places only seem to know a little about domestic motorcars...and not too much regrading them either.... Looks like a ground wire but not sure
TomoHawk This is a Z with the original Datsun inline 6 in it Thanks 77 Z

Looks like a ground wire but not sure
Frank...it does attach to the intake as well..then comes back to the left fender connecting with a smaller wire..all of which connects to a large group of wires on the left fender area..the small wire also runs forward to the front of the motor..in the area of the first injector...this all sound kinda confusing but its not all that bad as long as you are looking at the motor Thanks for all the help you guys have been...I scraped off the burned insulation and retaped with electrical tape for the time being..seems to be running fine like this..but i obviously dont want to do something that could cause damage to the electrical system or motor down the road... Thanks again 77 Z Mike

Looks like a ground wire but not sure
TomoHawk Thanks for the reply...that is what it looks like..the wire also connects or has a wire connected to it that gives the appearance of a fuseable link ..but its not..its connected to a larger wire that runs along the left fender....now..it also the smaler wire goes around to the front of the motor towards the first injector..so we have what appears to be a ground wire with a smaller wire attached to it that then connects to a large wire (on the left fender) which then has the small wire running to the front of the motor....if that makes any sence to you.... Thank you for the help 77 Z
