Looking for a 240K
I had been looking in Japan at first, but they seem to be pretty expensive in comparison to the ones in Aus. If I could come across a good one for a decent price I would jump on it. I figured I could get a pretty clean one in Australia for a lot less and then just buy the GT-R parts afterwards. Now, if you have a line on one that is a good buy I'm always interested. Thanks Brian

Looking for a 240K
Actually, right hand drive is no problem. As I mentioned in the first post, I already own a '71 Skyline and have recently sold my GTi-R. I have become pretty comfortable with it. I am very interested in hearing more about the reproduction parts you mentioned though. Brian

Looking for a 240K
Hello guys, it's been a while since I last posted. I have been busy moving to Phoenix, Arizona. I am now getting situated and was wondering if one of you guys might be able to help me out. I have been thinking about getting a 240K to join my KGC10 for a while now. I was wondering if anyone might be able to help me purchase and ship one up to the U.S. Or if someone could point me in the direction to someone that can. I am looking for a '73 or '74 two door. Rust is obviously an issue as there are no parts up here. I would like to find one that is complete and running. If it has any GT-R conversion parts it would be a plus. I am interested in any opions on what to look for or avoid as well. Please feel free to contact me personally as well. Thanks Brian

Q for those doing engine conversions
All of my experience comes from my KGC10 and my friends S30 Z. I would assume the KGC110 would at least be similiar. I could not tell exactly from the post which tranny you are using. The RB20 and N/A RB25 are substantially smaller than the turbo RB25. I am using the turbo RB25 tranny. I also have mounted the motor as far down in the bay as possible. My oil pan sits about .25 inch above the crossmember and the head is .5 inch off the firewall. I spent a great deal of time trying to get the motor perfectly level. I was able to get very close but never exactly level front to back. I then did a lot of research and found that the RB26 does not sit level in it's stock configuration either. The front of the motor is pointed slightly up. I eventually realized that I had the motor exactly where it needed to be. Now, as for the tranny, I did not modify my tunnel in any way except to put one small dent in it to clear the speedo sensor. My shifter comes out in the stock location and sits about .5 inch off of the tunnel walls. I made my tranny mount from regular old square steel bar. My stock mount connected to the car via studs coming straight down from the car. I used T/C rod bushings between the body and the new mount. I may have some pics around, if you send me your direct e-mail I will send you what I have. Let me know. Brian

My 15 seconds of fame
Thanks guys. I really enjoyed doing the photo shoot. Unfortunately, the car is still not running. I had completely pulled it apart again when I got the e-mail from them. They asked if I could put it back together and make it look as though it was finished. So, I reassembled it and made a few other improvements at the time. I'll pull it apart again soon to actually finish the motor. As for the article, I have not yet been able to get a translation. I hope to have someone translate it eventually. As for the question about the seats and steering wheel, the seats are Sparco Torino's and the steering wheel is a Nardi that came with the car. I went to Mitsuwa to try to get more copies but they did not have this issue. I expect they should have it by the end of this month. I plan to get more copies to do exactly what 74-26Ounce suggested. I'd like to get it framed to put up with the rest of my posters. The issue itself is very impressive. As someone mentioned, there are other well known cars and their owners in this issue. Ron Carter and Mario Lozano both have very clean cars. And I would love to have been able to read what was said about Les Canneday's shop. I hope to get the car actually running here shortly as I have been contacted by a few American magazines that claim to be interested in featuring it too. Not to mention the feeling of driving the car under it's own power as opposed to my friends pushing it. Brian

My 15 seconds of fame
About a month ago I did a photo shoot for a Japanese magazine special edition on modified Japanese classic cars in the U.S. Well, I received my copy on Friday. I took some pics of the article. Tell me what you guys think. Brian

Parts Manuals
I would definately like to get a copy of that. Obviously the C10 fits my needs, but I would like to have all of the Skyline manuals if it's not too much trouble. Please let me know how much for one shipped to the U.S., zip code 91977 to be exact. Thanks Brian

Fujitsubo Twin System
That system was on my Skyline when I got it. The only difference was that I had a Trust header. The car was the meanest sounding L series I had ever owned. The L20 was very old and tired and had no grunt left in it. But it did sound menacing. I sold the header but still have the twice pipes and muffler in the back yard. I plan on tossing it as I have no use for it and the muffler has a good sized hole in it. But it is complete from the collector back. If someone here wants it they are welcome to pick it up before it goes to the dump. Brian

Opinion time: How would I have fared?
I can tell you exactly how you would have faired. Several years ago I was in this exact kind of accident in a '72 240. I was going around 40mph or so and the traffic was backed up going the other direction. As I entered an intersection a kid in a brand new Hardbody P/U turned left right across my path. It happened so quickly that I literally was only able to mutter "sh" before we hit. I ran headlong into the side of the truck. Any discussion of the seat belts in a Z car is moot. They are practically useless. Mine simply came unbuckled, I slid forward actually bending the steering wheel back to the dash. My chin hit the dash, bouncing my head into the windshield. Amazingly, aside from some cuts and serious bruising, I was able to walk away from the crash. Here is the part you will be interested in. The right front wheel was pushed all the way to the footwell buckling the frame on that side. The windshield was cracked, but that was from my head. The engine seemed to take most of the impact. Surprisingly, it was not moved to far. The front of the car kind of wrapped itself around the engine. Now, you have a 280. That car would definately take the impact even better given the heavy bumpers and beefier frame. But, I was surprised at just how well the car handled it. Had I been strapped in with more functional seat belts, I would bet that the most I would have to complain about would be getting the wind knocked out of me. Brian

My introduction
Here is the link to the site regarding the four door in Texas. http://www.cardomain.com/profile/71hakosuka The guy has spent some serious time on it. It should turn out nicely. Brian

My Friend's Web Site
That is an impressive set up. I thought the S20 replica valve cover was a nice touch. The RB swap with throttle bodies or even Solex carbs seems to be quite popular in Japan. On another note, when are you planning on moving to the U.S.? I would like to see your Hakosuka when you bring it over. I hope to have mine running again by December or so. I.m pretty close, but still need to rebuild the RB and wire it up. Brian

Classic Japanese Car Show Oct 1 in Long Beach
I just got my registration confirmation e-mail a couple days ago. If you guys have pre-registered as well I would think you should have gotten one by now. I was number 44, and that was with me registering last month. I bet they are up to 100 cars by now. For everyone coming out, look for the silver Skyline. That is mine. I will most likely be nearby. Stop by and chat for a while. Brian

Very hesitant sale;Datsun 240K coupe
I don't know if you would be interested in selling to an American, but I have been thinking about getting a 240K. Would you mind telling me what year the car is? Do you have any pictures? I would like to see as many close up shots of the doors, sills, and rockers that I can. Also, exactly where in Australia are you located. If you want to contact me directly, my e-mail is b.dooley1@cox.net .Thanks Brian

I plan to take several pics and will post them for our everyone here not able to make the show. Brian

My introduction
The four door in the picture is owned by a friend of a friend. I believe the guy is named Chuck, but it's been a while. The two door in the pics is a '72 GT-X that another friend of mine brought in last year. That particular picture was at the Z car convention last year at Nissan headquarters. That car was then bought by Marcos at "The SR20 Store". I have spoken with him a few times and he seems pretty cool. I have told him of my idea about getting the Skylines together. The pictures of Les' Silvia are from last years Mossy Nissan Show in Oceanside. Here is the story of that car. Apparently it was actually originally purchased from a Nissan dealership in Hawaii in '66 or so. The word is that it is the actual New York Auto Show display car from '65. After the show, on the way back to Japan, the car made a stop in Hawaii where an employee at Honolulu Datsun offered to buy it. Les got word of it some five years ago and bought it. It is very rough, and missing several original parts including the hood and bumpers. Rust is not that bad, and the interior is surprisingly nice. I talk with Les from time to time and he told me he does not have enough original parts to do a proper restoration on it, so it will eventually get a set of Panasport rims, a five speed, and most likely a 2 liter engine. Sort of a "resto mod". Brian

My introduction
Thanks for the welcome. There are four other two door Hakosukas and two four door versions that I know of. One four door is in Texas, the other is in Victorville, Ca. There are the two two door cars that you mentioned up in L.A., then there is one in Birmingham, Al. and one in Fla. The one in Florida is the one that was in Super Street magazine a couple years back. He was making these rediculous claims about his car through the entire article. He claims it is a GT-R that is 99.9% original and worth some crazy amount of money. I actually exchanged words with him on another Nissan site. If any of you are interested in a laugh, here is the link. Keep in mind that my login there is '71 Hakosuka, he signs in as '71 Skyline. It's a bit confusing, but you'll be able to tell us apart pretty quickly. Here is the link: http://www.nissanforums.com/showthread.php?t=79935

My introduction
Monky's is the dealer I used to find my car. Yasuhiro is the guy in charge and I can highly reccommend him. He went well outside of his usual range to find what I was looking for. It took about four months to get this car. He kept in contact with me at all times letting me know his progress. I still talk with him about my car from time to time. I may be bringing others in to the U.S. in the near future and I will definately go through Monky's again. My engine is from an R32. It is mildly built. I'm running Nismo turbos, Tomei metal gaskets, 700cc injectors, Haltec EFI, Greddy pulleys, Nismo clutch, and Tomei cam pulleys. I'm looking for around 500hp or so. And as for the fuel, we have both leaded and unleaded race gas available that really is not that much more expensive than the regular crap. About $4.50 a gallon compared to $2.75. The race gas is 110 leaded or 106 unleaded at the place near me. I'll be using one of these solely. The car is not a daily driver, in fact I doubt it will get more than 1000 miles of use per year. So it won't really cost that much to run. Brian

My introduction
Thanks guys. The original engine was in it when I got it, except it had a Trust header and triple Solex carbs. I sold off the carbs and header, but the engine and five speed are sitting in the corner of my shop. The RB26 is bolted to an R33 RB25det five speed. It fits in the tunnel surprisingly well. I actually almost bought a car from Australia. I think it is the one that you ended up with Jim. It was a while back, but I think the sellers name was Ron. He was asking just over $16k U.S., whatever that comes out to in Aus. dollars. I think I still have a bunch of the pics he sent me. It is quite impressive, in both overall condition and in equipment. I would have loved to have gotten it, but it was just outside of my price range at the time. When I tried back a few months later after I had scratched together the extra cash, he told me it was gone. I ended up with my car from Osaka. Luckily, I managed to do pretty well for my money. While I liked the way it looked when I got it, I never intended to leave it stock. I don't plan to alter the body, but the suspension and drivetrain had to be updated. There are only four other ones, two doors that is, that I know of in the U.S. All are pretty much as mine was. There are also a few KGC110 Skylines here too. One belongs to my friend Mike, he actually posts here quite often. He lives only a few miles from me. Another one was just brought in by my friend up in L.A. I'm looking to try to organize a meet of classic Skylines here in Southern Cal. once we all have running cars again. I'll keep you guys updated if we ever manage to get this done. Brian

My introduction
I have been a reader of the threads here for a while but this is my first post. My name is Brian and I live in San Diego, Ca. I have a '71 Skyline that I brought in from Japan late last year. I have pretty much torn it down and rebuilt most of the essentials. My car, like most other KGC10's, is a full GT-R clone. It is actually a GT-X with the power windows and such. The drivetrain was pretty much standard when I got it but now there is an RB26 in it's place. The suspension is full comp now with 17 x 8 front and 17 x 9 rear wheels shod with race tires. I pulled out the Nismo R180 and installed a Kaaz R200 with 280ZX turbo C.V. joints and a full 5 lug conversion using parts from an '86 300ZX. I have Wilwood brakes on all four corners and just recently finished the motor and tranny mounts. Here are some pics of the progress. I have started with the day I picked it up from the port. The next are of a trip to a local car show. All the rest are of the rebuild over the last 8 months.
