  1. Did it come from under the drivers seat, or under the dash? I don't know what it is, but I have a spare one if yours is broke. I dismantled a lot of the interior of my 280zx to get the wiring harness for the power windows out and came across a few things that looked like that.
  2. It should be a standard Aus spec model. We did get Skylines here for years remember, with the L24 engine, and then the RB30 engine for a while before Nissan stopped bringing them in, and the importers started.
  3. Oooh did I just hit the information jackpot. Just rang Nissan about the brackets. They can get them in from Japan for $130 each!! (aus dollars) But I asked the guy if they came on any Australian cars. He did a bit of a search and bingo. The brackets are also found on an 82-85 R30 Skyline!! The guy even put me onto a wrecker on Brisbane where I should be able to get a set from. How is that for customer service. Have to confirm yet, but looking good.
  4. Biggest problem I had was cracking the paint in a few places because depending on how far you go, it can be a tight bend. I was at a disadvantage because my car had a bad respray before I got it, over the existing coat of paint with virtually no perparation, so there were bits cracking and peeling off when I started. That is why I had no hesitation about rolling the guards. New paint should be fairly flexible though. I had two paint jobs, one of which is EXTREMLY thick and I only cracked one spot on one side. Professionals will do it fairly cheaply too. Scott
  5. Da-Tsu-n Three japanese sounds. Forced to do all that Japanese at school and this is the first time it has come in useful. It has always suprised me how a country can have such a market for a 30 year old car, when an 'old' car is only 4 or 5 years old.
  6. Would anyone have a drawing of the brackets that would allow me to go to a machine shop and get a pair made up. Preferably the cut-away version so I don't have to remove everything. I have a cousin who would do it for me at a very reasonable price so it would be a good avenue to try. Apart from that, I have all the bits ready to go. Scott

All that car needs to finish it's transformation is a huge set of slicks under the read, a set of front runners on the pointy end and a huge supercharged nitro sucking big block hemi poking through the bonnet because that thing really fits the "funny car" category at the drags. Lot of effort though.
  8. In front of the radiator! Run a pipe through one of the holes next to the radiator into the afm and stick a pod out the front. Or if you want it better concealed, run a pipe out of the air box. Bit trickier, but might fool someone. The guy who owned mine just used PVC straight from the afm and stuck the pod out the front. You may hear the air sucking in more because the air box masks this sound better.
  9. I had 235's on my Z all around, 14 inch rims though. Just required a little rolling of the rear lip to make it not rub. Nothing too difficult. Just took a lump of wood, a rubber mallet and a few hours. Looked tough, but was super scarey to drive in the wet. Too much width for the weight of the car. Scott.
  10. A good friend of mine had a mate who bought one. He is a dentist and quite well off. Bought an Excel on the $13990 drive away deal. Why? Because he could treat it like he stole it. Leave it anywhere do anything in it, never wash it or service it. Didn't care about it one bit. After a few years, my mate convinced him to check the oil in it. There was rust on the dipstick. Good cheap nasty car. Great daily hack if you want a car you don't care one bit about.
  11. The 280zx parts car I've got had a pod filter infront of the radiator, piped to the (now empty) air box with 2.5 inch PVC pipe. Cheap to get any bends you need. But doesn't look as good. Do a neat job and it won' be too bad though. As for size, what size is your exhaust? Remember this air in your exhaust is way hotter, hence greater volume flowing through the pipe, but it is forced through also. There is also the theory off air speed charging through your carbies. But I would work out the equivalent area of the carby inlets and use a single pipe of the same area. Cant go wrong there. Area = pi x R^2, or Area = pi x (D^2)/4 In the end, unless you do something really wrong, or your current filter is really bad, the gain won't be enough to feel. But you will have fun fitting it.

The car pictured in the link is very similar with the side windows door, and wheel arch/wheel combination from what I vaugely remember, but it had a hatch and different rear. Should have payed more attention. Someone somewhere will know, and hopefully they frequent this site. Perhaps it is a slightly different model, or perhaps a custom job.

I got my seats re-trimmed about 3 years ago for about $350. It was a budget job and it shows a bit in some areas, but I got rid of the vinyl and went for grey cloth with blue piping. I am pretty happy with them. my seats Better than ripped vinyl poking you in the back.
  14. If you are using metallic paint I think you are supposed to use a clear coat over the top, but I don't know about standard paint.

It might be a case of having to replace something. If there isn't any way to adjust it. I had problems on my Z and all I could do was move the raising/lowering bit around slightly. My windows are still a bit loose unless they are wound right up. The rubber strip in the window frame has worn over the last 30 years allowing some movement. Only 1 thing I can do about it. Good luck.

Well i guess if they hold that much water, you know there isn't any little rust holes in them. I had handfulls of crud in mine, but no water luckily. Why does the window rattle? Because it doesn't go up far enough, or because it is loose in the slide rail thingy, or because the frame with the teeth that moves the windows up and down had sideways play in it?
  17. I was under the impression that the coupe doors are the same, but the 2+2 doors are different. But I can't back that up and I am only about 5% sure. I am 90% sure that I could do with some better doors though. I stopped looking at the under side of the inner skins because it was getting depressed.
  18. Did anyone notice the ad stating "you are bidding on 4 ground wires" and the picture and wiring diagram shows 5 wires. Does this mean you will only see an 8 to 12 hp increase??? I think I have too much spare time.
  19. Will the 260z doors fit on a 240Z?? And what nick are they in?

I got a mig welder, a heap of crap and a bonnet from a TR7 sitting under the hood if my Z. Have to put it back on when I get the front sorted. In the car, I have got a stock L28 fresh from an 83 280zx (Aus spec) with the round top carbies, extractors and a 2.5inch exhaust. Very plain I know, but still fun.

Buy a pressure cleaner. Great for cleaning built up gunk and crud from most things very fast. Downside, if you go about it too roughly, you might cause some damage, but I have used this method many times without incident. Just watch loose flaking paint. That, and some quality elbow grease and metal polish.
  22. I have an old gearknob in the cupboard and from memory, it is very similar to that one, but has a chrome ring around the bottom. I think it was only plastic that had been chromed, because it has cracked. I'm curious now. I will have to dig around in the garage to find out.
  23. I have noticed a few ads in the trading post where the 240z has been called 'rare' and 'hard to find' and such. Would be interesting to know how many there are around. I see a few around, (240's and 260's) but many are in a rough state. One 240 I know of lives about 400m from the surf and is showing signs of it. I'll send you a PM about the Vin details. Scott
