  1. PM's sent. Hopefully I will get to the diff soon. One of the doors in my vette is now locked and will not unlock so that's driving me nuts at the moment. Wished I had it ready for a cruise at the Wintersun...

I was hoping a good baffled sump and a better pickup would remedy any problems like that. I know it's off topic, but does he use the triumph 5-speed, or something else like the Supra 5-speed. I still haven't decided which to use.
  3. Murph, I just measured the rear strut tube and it's 51mm. I might get to the diff tonight, but I just got my door locks back for the Vette, so that will be first.
  4. R200 is a single spinner of unknown ratio. The plan is to pull off the rear cover and count the teeth.
  5. Stub axle is the 240Z one. I heard the later ones were stronger, but still had the same splines. Also, I'm very hesitant to sell the G-nose to someone without them looking at it first. It isn't bad, but it isn't perfect so I want to make sure they know what they are getting.
  6. OK, so I have a few extras I want to get rid of. I'll probabl think of/find other stuff later, so if I do, I'll add it to the list. I'll post some pics after dinner when my camera has charged. A set or rear calipers and discs off a 1983 280zx, including flexi lines. Front calipers off the same car. A 15/16in master cylinder, including the proportioning bit that is below it off the same car. These brake parts worked fine when they came off the car, and have been sitting in my garage for about a year or so. R200 off the same car. Rear left hand strut casing, stub axle and control arm from a 240z or 260z Drivers door window in good nick with the metal parts still attached. (240z) Make an offer, you will probably get it. Also, a one piece fibreglass G-nose. Needs a little sanding and filling but does fit up OK, $200. I wanted to fit this to my car, but never got around to it. (heard that one before) Since I will be selling the car soon, there is no use keeping it.

Well, the V8 weights 15kg less than the cast iron 4cyl you would find in a Triumph TR7, plus it's shorter than the L6, so you could sit it close to the firewall to get the weight further back. Then bolt a supra gearbox behind it and have some fun. The sump should clear the x-member, but you would need engine mounts. You could use the nissan gearbox in the stock position to save modifying the gearbox x-member and tailshaft, but I don't know how it would do with the torque. Then you get to play with the exhaust and get the cooling hooked up. Still, would be a fun car.

Could be too lean. Mine ran OKbut struggled when the revs got much over 3500. Made it richer and it fixed it. Also as stated, Vacuum advance? And ditch the points for an electric dizzy. So much better.

I won't get your hopes up yet, and it isn't 100% certain. There is some rust in the car, but it is my daily driver so it all runs nicely. I'll PM you when I hear if I can get the Silvia I'm after.

Where abouts are you? My 240Z may be up for sale very soon. If so, it will be up on this site first before it's advertised anywhere, including all the parts I've hoarded.

My dreams for the car would involve getting all the rust fixed and adding sub-frame connectors. Then, a G-nose and flares and a fat set of 16" Watanabe's to fill the flares. Then there's the suspension, and engine. I'll settle for a fun daily driver instead that I car park anywhere.
  12. My dizzy came from the skyline with the L24. Exactly the same thing. I just rung up the local wrecker and asked them for an electric dizzy for an L6. Go to supercheap and grab the bosch or ngk book and look up nissan. Look for listings that give the engine as L24E or L28E.

I found it was hard tilting the engine/gearbox combo to get it in and out, but at at least you know it will go back in. Trying to allign the engine up to the gearbox is a real big pain, especially if you have taken the clutch off.

MAke sure you get all the wires and lines disconnected. The clutch hydraulic line will only take so much tensile force There is always something you forget.

No they can't. They are two separate things. www.option1garage.com.au This place specialise in drift parts and know all about nissan diffs, plus they get 2nd hand ones in fairly often. Give then a call, they are in Brissy.
  18. Sorry, but you Murricans can't take the blame for this one. The Chinese in their fast developing country are all of a sudden using a lot more of the stuff, and due to it being a communist country, the government has fixed the price, and fuel is cheaper there than in the US. The Chinese gas sellers are not happy because the price they sell at may be fixed, but over the last year or so, the price they buy at has increased. Chinese development is the same reason steel prices over here have increased a lot too. Of course, don't take my word at 100% because I can't remember where I heard it now.
  19. Over here, $50 won't even fill the tank with cheap stuff. The New Zealanders have it even worse.
  20. How about "I buy them about half an hour after I need them" I have driven to the local auto shop with the rear hatch off the car. I was painting it and discovered I needed paint or thinners or sandpaper or something. Can't remember, it was a few years ago. It's too far to drive to Bill's place, but next time I'm in the country......
  21. Sadly, I think the other post by 'smokingwheels' has more content LOL
  22. This one's a 73, with a 400 small block. I bought it in LA just before Christmas. Got it sent back, and picked it up friday. Scored a bit of damage on the trip over unfortunately, but nothing major. Definately go over well cruising through Surfers.
  23. In the back on the left is my fathers Holden HZ tonner, and on the right is my Triumph TR7 vert that is being heavily modified as a cheap drift car. When I get the chance, I'll have to get some shots of the cars side by side. The lines of the rear guards are quite similar.
  24. After about 4 months, I finally got the thing. It's now sitting next to the Z. I was staring at them, comparing the lines side by side. If you changed the peaked front guards on the vette for something smoother, they could be quite similar.
