  1. There was a 240Z featured in the July 2004 issue of Fast Fours. It has the complete rear IRS from a R33. It's a NSW car. Doesn't say how much fabrication, but it had to be narrowed to fit, and the Z shell was unaltered, so I'd expect a fair bit of modding.
  2. First, try one thing. On one speaker, reverse the wires and then listen to it again. If the speaker is wired up wrong, the sound waves (especially the lower frequencies) cancel each other out and you have little volume. Simple mistake, easy to fix and check before you spend some $$$.
  3. They will hit the guards long before they hit the shocks/springs. With only 195's on there, I would think they would fit, or might require minor lipping of the guards. I used to run 235 14's on a 0 offset rim and needed to lip the guards, but there was room for more on the spring side.
  4. My Scout is good for scaring ricers. Big 4x4, Shiny paint loud stereo, quiet exhaust, aerodynamics of a house brick. But nail it and it keeps pretty even with a lots of small hatchbacks. Loses to anything with real go though.
  5. The gumball rally is a classic to watch. So many people loose their licenses though. They do some prety stupid stuff at high speeds, and there is usually a few crashes in very expensive cars.
  6. Or ditch media player for something better. I use VLC and it plays everything I've thrown at it so far.

Think of it this way: 38mm offset rim with a 38mm adaptor bolted to it to set the offset back to 0mm. The rim and adaptor will act like one piece while it is bolted together, so for the hub, it feels just like is has a zero offset rim on there. Same loads as stock. Now if I were to use a spacer larger than 38mm, then there would be loads on the axle that are excessive.

Have you got a front 240Z strut assembly? I'm after one to mock up my front brake upgrade and get it all sorted before I try put it on the car.
  9. Go rent it. It'll cost you $2 for a week. Basically one big car chase, with a plot draped around it in order to flog it off as a movie. Works for me!!

My Z is a daily driver. It's low, has wide wheels and sounds very tough when you plant it. Overall it is a rough looking car, by no means restored, or anything special to look at, but I can drive it around for weeks without passing another one and it still stands out from the sea of buzz boxes and family sedans. It is cheap, reliable and I can drive it like I stole it, knowing that if the worst comes and I do crash it, I can search, buy another one and simply fit all the modifications to the new one, or build another one up better than the first. I've had it for 8 years now and it's still going strong. Most cars would have depreciated more than what I paid for this puppy.

Whoops, I left out the word turbo. I read the same article about the yellow Z with the Silvia box. I'd assume that the 240sx box is the same box since silvias and 180sx's are almost the same car. America just got a 2.4L na version instead of the turbo import version we see around here. silvia gearbox swap

You can swap them from 240k's, 260C's and 280C's and the earlier skylines with the Lseries engine. The 280zx tranny thay are talking about is the borg warner one that is tougher and clunkier than the standard Z one. Some have used later model nissan gearboxes too 240sx tranny swap
  13. Sure beats my method: Rocking up to the bolt shop with a handfull of rusty bolts and asking for 6 of that, 10 of those and 8 of this one, all in stainless. They love me there. Sounds like a good package to get your hands on. Stainless is definately the way to go IMO.
  14. My car did exactly the same thing when I first got it. The crank case ventilation hose that ran from the block (near the distrubutor) into the balance pipe on the manifold was cracked and sucked in fresh air, causing it to not start when hot. Wait half an hour and it was fine. I bought a new one about three years ang from Nissan and it has never had a starting problem since. Something to check anyway.
  15. Whoa, they look pretty cool. They have a lot of dish on them and look tough. No idea what they are though.

The offset for a z is 0mm, but most people accept 7-15 or so as acceptable. These are off a 180sx and have a 38mm offset. I was playing with a wheel size calculator the other day. 225/50-16's are slightly bigger than 175/75-14's in overall diameter, but less then the 235/60-14's I'm running now so it will be closer to original that what it is at the moment.

I'm still yet to fit them. I got my brake shoes today, and I installed my new rear springs and shocks yesterday and I'm halfway through replacing the uni joints in the halfshafts while it is all apart. The plan is to get it back on the road tonight, then get some adaptors next week. I'll have to drive it with the new springs and old wheels on order to make some comparisons. Too many changes at once, but since it's a daily driver, I may as well get everything done since it's off the road. Don't want to take it off again.
  18. I ended up using a pipe wrench. I put a length of pipe on the handle to crack the nut and that was it. As long as you are careful and make sure the wrench has a good grip you should have no problems. All my nuts are still in good nick. Sorry, couldn't help it.

Just picked these up 2nd hand. 16x7's Just need a set of adapters now to make then fit. I just propped it in place to see how it looks. Not too over the top for the look of the car I think. Can't wait to get them on there, but I'll have to fix the brakes first.
  20. I prefer the use of Inox and a rubber mallet on the outside face of the drum. Cocks it off the axle and pushes it off. Not too hard. Dropped the drum in today. $15 to get it machined and about $50 for a new set of shoes. The brake guy wants me to bring in the other drum too, so he can radius the shoes to match the drum. Sounds like a smart move to me. Don't skimp on the brakes. I have a set of calipers and discs from a 83 280zx waiting to go on, but I've never found a set of caliper brackets, so I'm still stuck with the drums.
  21. After a careful drive with something strange definately going on, and after about half an hour plus of bashing with a rubber mallet, I got the drum off to find the problem. My drum brake linings had disintergrated. I have never replaced these things whilst i have had the car (8 years) and they still had plenty of meat on them, but it seems they have just bit the dust. So I guess it's time to replace them now... :tapemouth It stuffed the drum lining as well, so I'll have to get that machined too. Gee these cars are a money pit, that like the 4th thing I've had to fix in 8 years. but at least I got home safe. That could have been bad.

I don't know if it['s been mentioned yet, but there is an old 280z in the movie Friday after next, with Ice Cube. It's in the driveway of the delapidated house the thief is staying in.

Aussie260Z has got it right. The Phase 3 was the fastest aussie car, and the charger was the fastest accelerating aussie car, just pipping the Phase 3 down the quarter. The hideous yellow GTS commodore (limited edition thing with the big ricey rear wing) was the car that finally bettered the 1/4 mile time by pulling a 13.7 or something similar. Still, I think a 265 hemi with a set of tripple SU's would make a killer street car with fairly good driveability and economy. Get an alloy head for it and an alloy case supra box and it would weigh the same as the L6 engine/gearbox combo. Would definately need chassis reinforcing though for all the torque.
  24. Yeah, it's been pretty solid, that's for sure. I've taken a heap of piccies of it around my place. There were 5 trees down on the road in a 50m stretch. One had slid down a hill, and then down the road a little and was right in the centre, still standing upright. Looked pretty funny. Lots of water. The Zed stayed in the garage (with the carpets out so it will dry out) and we chose the range rover to cruise about in. I even siliconed up the windscreen of the Zed last night in an effort to keep it dry inside. The rubber is cracking in the corners. Hopefully that's the last leak. :stupid: Too much rain.

Get onto one of the import mobs and have a chat to them. They are before 1988, so you can still bring them in from Japan. Them might come across one in their travels. The companies that bring over drift cars might find a nice one with a few mods already done.
