I have the round, 3 bolt tops. I just installed repair kits on both of them. I have no idea. My timing is set at +10 deg. TDC. I checked it again early this morning and it is still good. New plugs, fuel pump, filter, and regulator. I will have to try and set it higher (3.5 or 4psi) to see if it will make a difference. (crosses fingers)

I was driving to work lastnight when the car started to act funny...again. I was in 4th gear and my speed was around 40-45mph. The engine did not want to go any faster..like it hit an invisable limiter. It was making a loud buzzing sound around/ in the header area vibrating the whole car. When I backed off there was a really loud backfire, giving it more gas did nothing. As I creeped it home in 2nd gear, all it did was backfire (but not as loud as the first one) and had loss of power. A guy I work with said that my valves might need to be adjusted, another says something is wrong with the exhaust. I hope it is something simple. Woundering if you guys might have had some experience with this. Thanks again. "She's my baby...she needs to be driven!"

I would hate to see the insurance claim on that wreck. My heart sunk after seeing this. :tapemouth Wow....just speachless.

Didn't the driver door have "HERO" etched into it? If the glass was droken, as this Z has, shouldent the door also say "HERO"? They should have a picture of the door, right?

I got some carb rebuild kits from Auto Zone and replaced everything the kit came with. Set the carb needles to 2 1/2 turns down from the top. Started the engine and what do you know.... it runs like a champ. I have also replaced the fuel filter and fuel regulator in the engine bay. (have the regulator set at 3psi) Ran the car almost for a full hour without a backfire or hesatation in power. I still have dark exhaust during acceleration. When I crank the engine to start, it feels like the battery may be on its last leg. Still having the problem with the headlights not coming on at times. Thank you everybody who has picked their brain to help me figure out what the problem was. Now the test....driving it to work. :eek:

Yes, it is an exact bolt in. You would have to cut into the left front fender well to mount the AFM. As for boost, you would be dealing with 5-7psi, unless you were to upgrade all the parts with aftermarket. Even tough the stock turbo never came with a blow-off valve, I would get one anyway. Do some resurch on Hybridz.org in the "Nissan L6" or the "Turbo" forums. Good luck.

I am installing a fuel cell from Summit Racing. Have not started on it yet b/c my turbo engine still requires a whole gasket rebuild and the timing kits from VB. (Victoria British) I am also looking into doing steel braided lines for fuel and oil (to the turbo) and the Mega Squirt ECU. Hybridz.org has a big writeup on it. Check it out, looks pretty cool. It eliminates the need for the turbo AFM.

I am getting rid of all my carb stuff and N/A F54 engine minus the carbs. I woulden't put what I went through with these SU's on my worst enemy. Making way for the turbo. Thanks for the help anyway, I guess this carb gremlin was too much. -Later :hurt:

I hooked up a timing light and it is showing 10 deg. Still having the backfire and studdering rise in rpm. New aftermarket external electric fuel pump, clear fuel filter, new spark plugs, and fuel hoses. Still the same old studder and when I drove it around the block it would get to a certan rpm (tach does not work right) it would stay there and not rise anymore. More accelerator at this point, the engine would want to die. Now, I did some resurch on removing the "smog stuff" on the balance tube. Did so but now the car has a black cloud of smoke comming from the exhaust, stop studdering though. What happened? The posts all said to just pull them off, all I needed was the vac. line for the brakes, pvc hose and crank hose went to the air cleaner housing. Am I running way too rich or too lean? Help! Thanks.

What about if he lined the trap doors with plastic and then put ice and the beer in them? Now would he have any takers? Making sure of the rust and if she runs good.
