Installed a spook last weekend...
The spook works by reducing the flow of air under the car. So I would expect you would get similar results from an air dam, perhaps a little better if it blocked more of the airflow. But then there's the other side of the coin of how much drag it adds. As I understand it, the spook-style adds very little drag and blocks a lot of the under-car airflow as well.

Installed a spook last weekend...
This is one is fiberglass. There are no holes pre-drilled. I used a total of 8 bolts.

Installed a spook last weekend...
Thanks Ed, I meant to ask what others thought. Like you I like the contrast and being black it doesn't show up as much as it might if it was body-colored. But it also looks unfinished to me. Others?

Installed a spook last weekend...
I put a BRE-style spook from MSA on this last weekend and can't believe how much of an improvement it made in the steering. Even at speeds as low as 45 mph I can feel an improvement. At 85+ it's like a new car. The float that the early Z's have is mostly gone. It was a bit windy yesterday afternoon and the car moved around a lot less on the freeway at 75 mph. Even though I actually prefered the clean lines of the front end without it, the improvements are really worth it. I highly recommend this for anyone with a 78 and earlier Z. Of course, now I need to paint it to match the car... nice project for a winter weekend when I can't drive it anyway

The best looking 240z period...
I understand the point you're making, but I think it really matters what the context is. In the case of the guy with the Watanabes all he said was words to the effect of "see what I just did for my Z". In that context most people on this board are pretty supportive and complimentary, even if his car overall might not be to their taste. In this case the context is the "the best looking 240z period". In that context you're going to get a lot of people nit picking because there are some pretty awsome other Zs that have been shown here. Another example of context would be to compare a Z to an original Porsche Spyder or an MGA. Do that and the Z looks pretty big. But compare the Z to a Hummer and it looks pretty small. It's not hypocritical to call the Z big in one case and small in the other. It's the same Z both times. As others before me have suggested, perhaps he could have said "... here's one of my favorite Zs ..."

need help with a web-link
The link worked fine for me. If you haven't rebooted, that would be a good thing to try. Also, if you can get to another machine connected through a different ISP that might solve it. I'm guessing your DNS cache is corrupted, or there is a router problem with your ISP.

Another Noob!
Looks like the body needs a lot of work, but just the triple webers alone are worth what you paid for the whole car, so don't beat yourself up Sounds like you have some skills with welding (I wish I did) and so here's a good chance to practice. If the rest of drive line is strong you might want to keep your eyes out for a better body and then merge the 2 cars together. But anyway you look at it, I think you can have a lot of fun with it - just be careful not to put too much $$$ into the body. And welcome to the club!

Anyone seen this engine yet
Check out his feedback. He's made them private, and he has 1 negative this month, 3 in the past 6 months, and 6 in the past year. Plus, there's no explanation why this motor was built and is now being sold without ever being fired up. Bidding on this one would be too risky for me... But it sure is beautiful

Equilizing front braking
I agree with Lance that if everything else is in good order the thickness of the rotor by itself shouldn't affect pulling to one side. Another thing to check is the automatic adjusting of the rear shoes. If one side in the rear is too loose then other side will do more of the braking, at least under light applications. I had this on my car. I didn't so much feel the steering wheel pull to one side as much as I just had to turn the wheel a little to one side to keep the car stopping straight. Took me a long time to figure it out...

New Gunmetal Panasports
I debated for a while on that one since I liked the look of the Konigs and they were half the price. The only 15" performance tires I liked were the Yokohama ES100 and I was worried that when I need to replace tires the next time there may not be anything available. Then I'd be right where I am now. The 16" size is quite popular and there are so many choices I think there will be a good selection available for many years.

New Gunmetal Panasports
Actually I agree with you. I really liked my previous wheels (Enki 92 w/black centers) as they looked more "period correct" to me. I think these are really beautiful wheels, but they would look better on a more modern car. Interestingly, now the rear looks a bit higher than the front although you can't see it in the pictures. I think it's just an illusion as it looked low in the rear with the previous wheels/tires. It's easy to obsess on this. Much better to get in it and drive - then I don't worry about what they look like because I can't see them

New Gunmetal Panasports
The original owner said he had switched to aftermarket springs (this was almost 20 years ago) but they feel stock, so I'd say my suspension is stock except for the larger anti-roll bars. So far no rubbing, but if I hit a big enough bump the rear fender lip is going to rub on the outer edge of the tire. If it becomes an issue I'll either roll the fender lip or cut it. I'm running 225/50-16 Yokohama ES100s. I'd say that for their size they are a bit on the skinny side which works to my advantage in this case. Their maximum width is virtually the same as it was for the smaller tires I replaced (215/60-14 Goodyear Eagle GTII).

New Gunmetal Panasports
I finally gave up on finding performance rubber to fit 14" rims and upgraded to 16x7 panasports. Here's a picture if any of you are considering it. I couldn't find any good shots prior to placing the order so I was a bit nervous. In the end they turned out more grey than I expected but I'm still happy. Anyone need a set of Enki 92 14x7 rims?

This is why I speed!
I've been away from this site for a while and so I just saw this thread and feel I should add a story that just finished near where I live in Colorado. Towards the end of the 2004 school year a 17 year old guy was driving down a two-lane country road with 3 of his high school buddies. (I've driven the road where this happened and it looks a lot like the picture posted at the start of this thread.) They were going a "little too fast", maybe 15 miles over the speed limit, when they collided head-on with a car driven by a 77 year old man. Only the 17 year old driver lived. A year later he was tried as an adult for 4 counts of manslaughter. Don't remember how long his jail sentence is - he may have worked out a plea agreement. Also, there was some speculation that the other older driver was intoxicated. Didn't matter, 4 people died, and the lone survivor went to jail. Yo cremmenga, I'll bet this guy thought he had taken all the precautions as well. I'm sure that just like you, he was sure it couldn't happen to him. I'm sure he thought he was a good driver - too good to make a mistake. Or maybe it was all the other driver's mistake. Who cares, 4 people are dead and the life of the lone survivor is ruined. Is any of this getting through? Take it out to the track. You'll have so much more fun anyway. If you haven't tried it, you have no idea what fun you're missing. Lecture mode off.

Problem with specs for Panasport/Konig?
I'm thinking of putting either Panasport or Konig Rewinds on my '73. I've seen several sites list the 7" wide versions (both 15 and 16" diameter) as having a 4" backspace and zero offset. I was thinking a little about this and believe that can't be true! Check out the drawing I grabbed from the Yokohama website. As I understand it, if the back space of a 7" rim is really 4", then the offset would have to be + 0.5" or roughly 12 mm. Alternatively, if the offset is really zero, then the backspace would have to be 3.5". Would anyone who has a set mind measuring the backspace? I realize measuring offset isn't as easy

Fuel Starvation Problem
I too am running with a Holley Blue. Just be aware that it's a bit loud. You are going to hear it inside the car at idle. In fact, you're going to hear it outside as well.
