Buying 1975 280z and have some questions!
You would learn a lot about these cars but there will be no money to be made flipping this one. Both shocks shown are gone. Fluid has leaked out. That means the brake hoses are rotten as well. Then go to rear and repeat. Then paint and detail your work. Then fix engine issues. We have not even seen the engine compartment. Or the interior for that matter. Maybe a good car to fix and keep. But to flip? Run away and run fast. IMO.

Triple Mikuni thread
Agreed. I also run my return line for street driving. Seems like a good idea to me. I do not have an AF Ratio meter for mixture readings. Currently running 57.5 Pilot, 135 Main and 170 Air. 34mm Chokes. Runs real good and no hesitation at all.

[2017] What Did You Do To/with Your Z Today?
I am not planning to use any oil on these. They look to filter very well. I put very few miles on each year as I can only drive it in the Summer here. Mostly just driven on weekends. Just plan to wash them when dirty. On some other cars I notice some run no filters and many run just the screens over each air horn. I talk to them and they have no concerns at all. Maybe they have a lot of money.

[2017] What Did You Do To/with Your Z Today?
Received my Mikuni RamAir filters from the UK. With my old filters, I could not run the air horns with them.

I was thinking about freshening up the suspension!
Looks like the grinding worked. Very good. When I had the same issue I found a 280Z with a 5 speed at the bone yard that still had the shifter in it. That worked perfect like yours is now but with no grinding, The correct 5 speed shifter looks like the straight shifter you showed from the pivot point down. But it needs to have the bends in it like the 240Z and 280Z 4 speed shifters. I never tried that straight shifter in mine but I am sure it would hit the transmission tunnel and prevent 3rd and 5th gear to engage. From what I have read the 79 is the exact same 5 speed as the 77 & 78 5 speed. Just uses a straight shifter instead for a ZX. Hope I did not confuse anyone further.

[2017] What Did You Do To/with Your Z Today?
This stripe kit is what was left over from another project. I wanted to see how they looked on mine. I plan to remove these and get longer ones that go further down to the side body line. I plan to use the approximately same color. Although I might have someone photoshop some different colors.

MSA satin black Konig Rewinds are coming.. need tires
Add another no. Konigs painted graphite - Yes. Panasport on silver Z - Boring. IMHO.

Somethings wrong...
So you had a rear seal in hand and he replaced it? Also if you are getting water in the tank then I would stop buying gas at that station. I have no clue to why changing the transmission gear oil has any negative effects. ??

A new racers tape
Left the duct tape at home? No problem.

Grinding when going into 3rd
That 3rd gear upshift grind must be more common than I thought. My 72 4 speed did the same thing at about 60K mile mark. Never did try a different fluid. I installed a 78 5 speed instead. On that I am using Redline MT90 trans oil. Been working very good.

Jai, be sure to budget in a transmission gear oil change too. Who knows when or if it was ever changed.

MSA satin black Konig Rewinds are coming.. need tires
If I were close by I would take those off your hands. Just do not like the flat black look. But, I would immediately paint them to match the rear finisher panel and clear coat. And never look back.

MSA satin black Konig Rewinds are coming.. need tires
Good. Because what is stamped on a wheel means nothing. To know for sure, measure the wheel according to the wheel gods.

MSA satin black Konig Rewinds are coming.. need tires
You have it correct on those. The tight wound coil spring goes on the rear. Also the wire gauge is larger on the rears than the front springs.

My Graphite Konigs were 0 offset. I was sure those would be the same. Check this out showing offsets explained.

Engine rough running - at wits end
That is really a clean looking top end. Looks like the oil changes were very regular. The internals must be in excellent condition as well.

MSA satin black Konig Rewinds are coming.. need tires
Zedy, We have the same color 240Z. Even though the wheels are advertised as satin black they look too flat to me to complement the silver paint and the chrome bumpers. Satin black to me is more a mid point between flat and gloss. I just don't see it in these wheels color. But you are close and on the right track. If mine I think I would try coating them with a clear wheel paint to make them pop out more. The wheel color does however look good on Porsche's. I would look at some to see what black looks good on those cars. Just IMO.

Vogtland springs
I decided on Vogtland also and received my 240Z springs last week. They definitely do not look progressive like Eibachs. They do look a lot heavier spring than I thought. Have to wait now as its going to be April before its warm enough to install these. The (VA) fronts are 12 coils and a free length of 12-1/2 inches. Rate 152 pounds. The (HA) rears are 10 coils and a free length of 11-1/2 inches. Rate 170 pounds.

Hints on removing stuck locknut on tie rod ends
With the suspension together on car, you attach wrench from bottom and push both locknuts towards the rear of car to loosen. Hope that explains it enough for you to figure out.

You can also buy 5mm wheel spacers to fit the Z car.. That may be enough to give the clearance needed.

Before doing anything else. Pull the valve cover and post a photo. If anything is amiss there, someone here will spot it for you.

Best Currently Available Dry Tire for 15x7
The springs I have now are black aftermarket. No marking. When I bought them from another guy he said they were Tokico. Did they make theirs black? Maybe they had decals instead of printing and were taken off. The thing is they sat way too high for my liking. So I cut them to lower it. Problem is that makes a spring even stiffer. Really have no clue what their rate was and are now.

Can you be more specific? Getting mixed messages here. Loosing speed or shutting off as in key off?
