I am definitely calling my insurance to up the agreed value another $5K. I am behind the current values. Next year I may have to do the same if the values keep going up like they have been. Ebay sellers are really getting good money IMO.

Did not sell at $58,400. Relisted. I think I will pass.

One reason its not starting is the shaft is not 180 degrees out. Its more than that. So if you rotate another 180, you are still off.
  4. We did not get a 5 speed here in USA a Z car until the 280Z came here in 1975. What people did here was use the 2000 Roadster 5 speed. Datsun Competition used to sell a kit to convert the Roadster 5 speed to a 240Z.
  5. This is no kidding. Once I saw a person selling one of those filler caps on Ebay, reading it upside down. Posted as "original Datsun 710 oil filler cap"

    OK.

Also not mentioned this head includes new Schneider springs and retainers. And of course new valve seals.
  9. Painful. Much better MUTE.

Nope Brass. Already checked. Don't know why. The owner is deceased and his friend that helped him out at the track alot is not 100% sure of the original Builder. I do know who rebuilt it though. They build all kinds of race heads and blocks. On another note I did take my N42 apart and it has steel seats. That means its a 76 head and I thought it was a 75 N42 head. Also, If anyone here wants it I will pay for any shipping.

This rebuilt head has been ported and refitted with 280Z stainless steel valves. Said to have been done originally by Rebello. You know what these cost. I am about to take this to the machine shop and have seats converted to unleaded fuel to use on my own L28 if nobody buys it. No. 6 cylinder was welded and repaired at one time. More photos on request. $600 plus shipping.
  12. Just to clarify the shifter difference I had posted. That was what my problem was on my 1978 280 5 speed install. Not a ZX gearbox. I thought you had the same 5 speed I had.
  13. To use what you have I think I would cut both shifter handles off and swap the curved one to the bottom end that works. Taper grind and use a groove butt weld to join together.
  14. There is a long nose shifter and a short nose. Both work 1 thru 4 but only the short nose will work to fully engage 5ht gear. I had that problem myself, only worse. Hopefully that is all your problem is.

You car is 34 units from my 2/72 build date. I would say definately 2/72
  17. I wish I could get 32mm Chokes for my 44PHH. I am at the smallest at 34mm they make for the 44's. I think the 32mm choke would be pretty much ideal for the street. Throttle response would be much better, which I like more than a few extra HP at the top end where I never drive it anymore.
  18. I bought a set for my 72. The fronts are too short and the rears were too long. I don't know what's going on. I did put the rear on by drilling new holes further down past the old rubber holes. Front is still in limbo.

You got your car back way quicker that I thought. That almost never happens with a job like that. Good shop.

I have read improper wrist pin fit/install can crack piston skirts. I will see if the retired Datsun mechanic I know has an opinion.

I wonder if the ring issue and the skirt issue are related. In other words did one cause the other? Or two separate fitment problems. Definitely does not look like a Datsun Spirit build at all. May be he means California Datsun. That would make more sense. I would say that motor must have been very noisy with that damage. Good to hear you bought it at the right price.
  22. That is really good to know about ABS cement. I really hate mixing resin to use fiberglass on smaller projects.

This is an installation on a 2/72 build date. Yours will be the same is this. Very easy install.
  24. I was thinking $20K for sure but I am happy to see your investment pay off. So many people do not get back what they have invested. Restored cars in general I'm saying, not just Datsun. 8 minutes after grannyknot's Z is a really really nice green 1972 blue plate California 240Z. For the person that misses out on this one. I would also jump all over that car in a second if I could.

Sold my excellent P90a with cam and rockers on ebay for $190 not that long ago.. I don't know what I was thinking. Could have got a lot more. It sold in less than 1 hour. Zero feedback too. Typical.
