One Quick Question to Test A Theory (Diff Q)
Hey, I'm wondering if the number of output shaft splines on the differential of an R200 is the same as on the Nissan S13 (early 240sx). Because if so, you could theoretically swap an aftermarket LSD for an S13 (which are really popular installs) into an old Z diff case. Anyone know how many splines are on the shaft by any chance?

Yeah, I'd imagine walking every stage of a rally would get pretty tiresome. lg5L-, 20, es3Rdc, 30, hp2r+.

Rally Navigator Lingo
The lot of WRC co-drivers are allowed to go over each stage before the rally takes place. They jot the notes down in massive notebooks. If I remember correctly, there's a stage in Germany that required 95 pages of pace notes! Also, each co-driver has his own code for different rally "moments" so getting a diffinitive guide is kinda difficult. I find it fun to make up your own code, just be creative!

My Rear-Ending Story
Well, that doesn't sound right. It's obvious that the other party's insurance company is going to put up a fight. For example, in my case, the other party wanted to pin it all on me because I was in the wrong "imaginary lane" so I called them 4 times a week, talking to their adjuster and telling them my side of the story. You've gotta hold your ground, and you've gotta let them know that it wasn't your fault.

Rally Navigator Lingo
Time to revive this thread! I'm a huge fan of WRC and I've been paying carefull attention to co-driver jargin. I find it a lot of fun to take a little windy section of road and make your own pace notes for it. For example, I made some pace notes that leads me into the mountains to my girlfriend's house, hehe. Here's and example of something I'd do. Long 5th gear turn to the right which tightens at the exit, 50 meters of straight followed by a 2nd gear hairpin to the left, then 30 meters over a crest, finally a light right turn that opens into a straight. lg5R-, 50, hp2L, 30oc, es4R+.

California Smog Regulation.
I checked the CA DMV website to finally get a difinitive word about what cars are and are not smog exempt. http://www.dmv.ca.gov/vr/smogfaq.htm So it looks like you '75 280Z's are in luck, and '76 guys like me are stuck (even though the two years are almost identical). Any way to get around this? I know my car was MANUFACTURED in December of '75, but argh, this is frustrating. Comments? (Try to keep it non-political)

Gran turismo 4
I don't own the game but I've played my friend's copy of it. I find it so funny and great at the same time that they included the imfamous classic Z "nose-dive" under heavy braking.

Early Z Doors
Unless someone was making a "rice-machine" Z, I don't think there would be any reason to. Don't get me wrong, it looks great sometimes, but I just don't think the Z would look good with it's doors up in the air. Plus, its posible, especially because if the size of the doors relative to the total area of the car, that it would be very difficult to get the physics right to make it work.

Tail Light Area Paint Ideals
Black is always a winner for that area. It sets off the rest of the paint qute nicely. Mine's flat black.

Anyone Know this Airdam?
Usually "drift" airdams have a lip at the bottom edge that flares out. This doesn't really help with aerodymics at all, but the design has just been accepted as being one of the trends. I personally don't care for them much.

ANOTHER Turn Signal Issue
Use a volt meter to test the wires, and you can get them at any electronics store relatively cheap. Try Radio Shack.

Electrical problem, please help!!
If I understand correctly, the shot solinoid in the starter has caused the starter gear to stay engaged with the flywheel gear, prolonging the starter's engagement with the engine. I would get youreself a brand new starter, and then work your way back through the wiring to find where the prblem lies. I could be totally wrong, but that's my take on it from what I understand.

My Rear-Ending Story
Hi guys, last September, my '76 Z was rear ended while taking a drive with my girlfriend. We had decided to take a cruise around town at about 8PM, so we did. It was also the day before school started at the local University. During the drive, we saw a beautiful FD (3rd gen) RX7, and we got 2 cars behind it. I wanted to get a closer look as well. We approached an intersection and were puzzled which way the FD was going to go, so we were going to pull off into a parking lot and figure out which way to go next. As we pulled into the lot, BANG, the rear passenger's side of the car was plowed by a GMC Envoy SUV, naturally an eager university student rushing off to his girlfriend's house. Ironically, the man in the FD came into the lot to ask if we were alright, which both my grilfriend and I were. But car was looking not too good. Over the next 2 months, I was on the phone dealing with both insurance companies, and by the grace of God, won the case and my car was not totalled. In fact, I got to keep $500 dollars extra. The car has been fixed, and I helped because at the time I was working part time at a body shop, though I don't think it will ever be the same. There's a small paint ripple in the roof (from repainting the roof as well, also matched paint was subpar.) and the pass. side bumper shock was bent down so we had to slot the holes substantially to get the bumper to sit right. (apperantly those bumper shock bolts are a real pain to get to anyway.) I still want to make my Z better and better though, and to tell you the truth, this website helps it all become possible.

No Voltage at Fuel Pump
Does the engine turn over when you turn the key? I ask because I had a similer problem with my '76 Z and it was frustrating trying to troubleshoot. It could be a wire coming off of the battery, or it could be a fusible link (if you're ZX even has them, I'm not quite sure). Just a mere connecton problem gave me hell for a while.

350Z-Style Stubby Antenna on Early Z?
Hmm, alright. Another reason why I think this little antanna would look sweet (especially on the rear quarter, not the roof) is that it will give the illusion of a spoiler, when you don't really have one....maybe im just retarded, hehe...nvm. Thanks for the input. Keep it up, you guys are great.

350Z-Style Stubby Antenna on Early Z?
Hehe trust me, the power antenna that broke was NOT the original, it was a $40 unit from JC Whitney. Im not in a hurry to stick an antenna to the roof, but I'm interested in some of what you guys have said. The glovebox idea sounds quite interesting... I'll keep everything you've said in mind, but please keep the insights coming.

350Z-Style Stubby Antenna on Early Z?
Thanks for the input. I found a couple little stubby antennas on ebay as well, though many of them are just the tips. I've also thought about the hidden antennas that you've mentioned. How do you guys think this would look on an old Z? (locustom.com) 31 bucks on ebay for this slick little number.

S13 240SX has R200?
I've heard that the bolt holes that hold the ring gear to the differential unit are a different size, but it shouldn't matter as long as the bolts are torqued down correctly. I've been researching this as well, partly because coming across a R200 LSD is so rare. 240sx's have viscous LSD's and therefore aren't as "high performance" as the clutch style units. But if one 240sx diff fits a Z diff case, then most should.

Hardest bolt or nut to get to?
After my car was rearended, the pass. side bumper shock on my 280Z was bent about a half an inch down ruining the look of the rear end. I didnt even bother buying a new one and and dropping the tank to get to it. Just slotted the bumper shock holes up and used that to adjust the bumper half an inch up. (Was this reasonable??) Also had to deal with heater hose clamps under the dash, the side mirror nut AND the U-joint bolts holding the driveshaft to the diff. Not fun.
