  1. F54 Turbo has differnt pistons dished.. and differnt oil pump. I have a F54 with the P90 head... compression isnt overaly huge.. i think its because the engine is tired but it would be around 8.5 or something.. same as N42 top and bottom..

Its a proccess of elimation Take off fuel line too the rail top one... See if you have fuel as u crank it.. Second see if u have fuel coming out.. If there is fuel there and car wnot go take off injector plug.. put a led in there crank if over too see if you have pulse in the injectors... if u have pulse and fuel coming in and out of the rail then the problem lies in the Injectors.. Hope it helps..

Does the turbo have any shaft movement? up and down ? Is the air cleaner clean ? any cracks in the throttle body boots? Have you done a compression test ?
  4. Yes those are my plans... just finding out how easy it is too boost the F54 with the P90 I also have a N42 Engine aswell thats in good condition.. so what i do is sorta uncertain.... Thanks for the response.

That was not directed at anyone. in particular just rather as a statement.. No mater in what context there is no such thing as safe speeding.. Today for instance i was traviling my normal route to my mates place along the forshore and a little kid about 5-6 years old road his bike out in frnot of me.. Even at 50km/h i had little room to stop... mind you i still did but if i was traviling 60-65km/h i would of had no chance.. and would of had to live with killing a child for the rest of my life but if i had of stuck to the speed limit i would of mised him like i did. Im 18 and i dont take myself to be a great driver whilst im ok im no Forumula 1 Driver.. Hence why i take my time.. take care watch out on the roads for other users.. and make sure i stay out of trouble.. You all know my thoughts on speeding so no point going on about them
  8. Well as far as i know the mags in USA the stock ones are the same in Australia...
  9. Try to source either a P90 head or a N42 Head by memeory both are better then the P79 and the P90 is better again then the n42 And a F54 Short block would be a good choise with the flat top pistons Personally id stick with Fuel Injection... just go after market managment.. Some nice big injectors and a custom plenum and your laughing Good luck
  10. Yeah mate that will fit straight into the Z... ill just start modifing the cross member
  11. Who has some pics of the stock mags that came on the 280zx ? i believe there was a few types ?
  12. romantic toe flood light ?

The street is not a race corse... can a even experiance driver expect a child to run out in the road ? if your doing the speed limit you would at least stand a chance in stoping... but if you where speeding your reaction time is longer.. your braking distance is lengthed not too mention risk to others.. Think twice... you will learn 1 day.. I just hope it is before you clean up a little 6year old girl with her dolls in her hand. No such thing as safe speeding..

I disagree.. bigger bang hence more power.. On a stock engine you would see no benefits if anything a little loss of power.. But if you advancd the timming and ran AvGas there you go your taking full advantage of it.. In Australia the highest octance we can get off the pump is 98. That is perfect for cars running up too 11:1 ratio any higher you will need avgas as said earlier they ping.. AvGas is also good for high performance turbo engines with alot of boost as the combustion chamber tempretures increase and the center of the pistons create hot spot which cause the fuel to pre ignite..

Speeding is speeding. there is no safe speeding. They set the speed limit because thats ehat the road is safe for.. if you go faster you comprimise saftey endanger others.. even if there is no other people on the road think about this you are someone's brother , uncle , best friend.. Keep it safe stay in the posted limit.

do you know how to do static timing ? Check if you got spark at the plugs... Give the car a jump start should give it some more kick Good Luck
  17. No vaccumn leaks around at all.. Now, there are two screws that look like they adjust something coverd by rubber plugs.. what do they adjust ? Also the car has no pick up or down when screwing in the idle screws on the throttle body.
  18. To my best knowlege all parts are virutually interchangable between all L28 engines... The P90 Intake has only 1 butterfly whislt the N42 Intake has 2 1 larger and 1 smaller butterfly... So the throttle postion sensors may be differnt.. Like its not registering the second butterfly.. ? I never got to start the second car.. yet.... damn flat batterys plus it needs some fuel ill get her running today hopefully and get back to you all
  19. Ok i checked it... i got a F54 block... So if i use differnt rings with the flat top pistons i could run a half decent turbo setup ? stock l28et turbo and boost ? Or would i need the dished to make it safe ?
  20. Ok im stuffed if i know.... Car has been idelnig high for a while.. car in question is 1979 280zx Fairlady Z N42 Top and bottom.. So i decdided to swap afm with my other 280zx.. 1981 280zx P90 Head and F54 Block... When i did this the car ran fine... ideled nicely at 1krpm before it was 1.5/1.6k.. BUT now it back fires through the afm when i rev it up and its not as responsive.. Could the throttle position sensor be differnt ?? so the afm isnt opening enough causing it too over fuel ? Anyone experiance this problem ? I havent tried the old AFM in the other car... thats what ill do now Thanks
  21. I take my Z (when i drove it once) to the absoutle limits.. i like to explore the rev range feel the power of the mighty 2.8litre as the conrod exits the block (9000rpm) nah I find it really odd as the 240z is faster then the 280zx but the 280zx has extra weight so it excludes any advatage because of the weight

huh ?? Ill have to watch out when oiling my piston bores in my next engine rebuild ?
  23. Because i cannot find the castings... Where do i look for them ? I know for sure the head is a P90
  24. I have a 1981 280zx that has a P90 with a F54 BLock (my best guess) So the internalls like rods and crank are the same from turbo to non turbo ? its just the pistons ?
  25. To my best knowelege the later ZX turbos use the P90 head and F54 Block... So my question is what is the differnce between the turbo f54 short block and non turbo short block ? just the compression ? or does the turbo have forged internals ? because i know the heads are the same
