  1. Personal preference is Everything. I've drivin all of them and the above comments are all dead on. ZX=mini cadillac, 240Z (I own a 70')=not as much zip (stock) but easily upgradable, 260Z=More power but heavier car=not as much fun as the 240, 280=fuel injected more power, heavier still, not a 240Z. I obviously LOVE the 240Z's, They are well beyond the Emissions tests and are more rare. Rare=harder to find parts but once you get all of them, the resale can be off the chart. I don't think I'll ever sell my 240Z but I'm not beyond taking a but load of cash for it. I have almost all the creature comforts of a ZX but weighs alot less. As for fuel milage, I have triple webers on the stock 170,000 mile engine, and I get about 27MPG on the freeway. Let us no what you finally decide on and Welcome to the best Knowledge base for your Z, which ever you decide on. Dave.
  2. $100 is an awesome deal. And here I was thinking my $550 260Z with original numbers matching rebuilt block was a great deal. You beat me, hands down. Congrats man, hell of a deal. Dave.
  3. Full tune-up (plugs, cap, rotor, etc), new air and fuel filters, Premium gas, run it for at least 20 minutes before you go. you want the motor hot so it'll burn fuel more efficiantly. Also get your idle as close to 1000rpm as possible. The more you can get it off the idle, the better you are. Off idle will help suck in more air hense cleaner burn. Good luck. Dave
  4. Yup it has rust in a few locations but they are easily replaced. Who can beat a $550 car w/ rebuilt motor and transmission. And it's the original numbers matching block.

  9. The MSA Zcar nationals is the Biggest Zcar event in the United States. As far as I know, There were over 800 registered Z's in the 06' event. Plus another couple hundred unregistered cars parked around the surrounding blocks. The event starts in Anaheim (exit 109A off South bound I-5) Follow Katella east for about a mile. Take a right after the twisty road at the Shell? gas station/car wash. Go SW about a 1/4 mile to Collins and take a left. Motorsport Auto 1139 West Collins Avenue Orange CA 92867 Ph.(800)633-6331 Fax(800)321-3777 www.zcarparts.com Go to Motorsportauto.com and register for the event. YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!!! Tons of friends are to be made, best Time I've had at a car event, ever. Me and the wife will be traveling 1200 miles to get there, ANd we usually stop in Redding for the night. But I think we're gonna shoot for San Diego this year. Dave.
  10. Definately do the Sound deadener on the outer and inner door skins. I only used 4 (2" x 6") strips on the outer door skin, and a few 2" x 2" squares on varies panels on the inner door frame. Tighten up everything and don't be afraid to use soft foam near the lock rods and door skins to keep them from banging together. My doors get compliments all the time, for how quiet and solid they sound. Below, is a picture of Dave Phillippi's door after I installed power door locks and power windows in it. He wanted the bigger peices of Dyno-Mat to fill the holes for lock noise and such. Shuts like a new solid door. Just knock on the panels, with your knuckle or something, use a patch on the noisy parts. Kinda like tuning an instrument. Dyno Mat is heavy so you don't need much to get the effect you're looking for. Definately do the second roller like Gary said, better results all the way around. Dave.
  11. There is a notch on the upper forward part of the door, where the door panel rests when hung. Imagine the window being rolled up all the way, not measure from the chrome window frame, back about 3 inches, on the top of the metal. That's where it gets pressed on. sometimes my descriptions suck but I hope it helps. You gonna have it back together for MSA? Dave.
  12. Hell, If I keep this up, my neighbors are gonna wish they did'nt see more. I run across a few 240's and 280's a month but then again, I drive mine alot and all over, so I may actually see more than the average driver. Dave.
  13. Thanks man, That makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. On on another good note. Went down to the gas station, filled up the can with 5 gallons of premium, came home filled up the tank, installed new BP6ES NGK's, checked all the wiring (whole nother story.) Hot wired it cause I don't have the key yet, it fired right up after the float bowl filled up. Drove it down the road and back, then into the garage to work on the left rear wheel. Pretty sure the stub axle bearings are trashed. Pulled the 1-1/16" nut off the stub axle, and it looks pretty rusty in there. Not a big deal though, I have a left strut assembly on the shelf, a better stub axle in a box, and I can find bearings somewhere around here or at the store. Pretty sure the struts are shot as well but who cares at this price. Best damn $550 I ever spent. Yes, she's in good hands as I don't really plan on parting her out. She's got a butt load of potential. But here's my problem. I need a new 3 terminal ballast resistor. I can't find one anywhere (near here) Anybody got one? Pretty please. Dave.
  14. Not 100% sure. I know it'll work properly (with my relay) but the intermittent part would have to be studied. It's all about the timer. I don't personally know if the 73's intermittent timer is on the Datsun motor or in a seperate box, somewhere in the 240Z. Dave
  15. OK, so ya asked for pics. I got in the driveway today while Randy (NSANOW) was in my garage with his new 71' 240Z that he bought yesterday. He stopped by for some upgrades and a wiper motor and linkage. His 71' had a 73' wiper motor and it was buzzing because of the intermittent (yellow) wire. PO did'nt know they weren't interchangable. Anyways, While backing the newly purchased 74' into the driveway, we broke loose that frozen left rear wheel, I mentioned earlier in this forum. (rusted brake or something.) Lots of work to be done, I'm charging the battery out of the car tonight so I car start to trouble shoot the ignition problems. Turned over beautifully with a jump from my 70'. Needs both front fenders and a better hood. sugar scoop on the RH side needs work or replacing. Needs a front bumper, new carpet, center console, dash has the basic small cracks, etc. Has beautiful Door panels, 2 original radios (1 in a box), extra set of taillights, one marker light (left under bumper 240Z style) couple other extras. Basic rust on some spots of the floor. Did'nt have a lot of time to really go over the car yet but I'll let ya know when I do. Thanks for the comments guys, I will be looking for some parts to get her up to par, if the title issue turns out for the better. Dave.
  16. yup, that's the wrong one, Look for the tripod, not the 4 legged spider. The picture in my post from (12/30/07) is the correct one
  17. So are ya still going to Golden Gardens or is that on hold? Dave
  18. Thanks and I will let ya know. By the way, your items went out this morning. Shipping was about $58 but I covered the rest. How close is the car to being done? Dave.
  19. Now you're finally thinking on my level..:stupid: Dave.
  20. SO in essance, I AM keeping the original engine, I'm just putting in the rebuilt 260 motor for now, till I can rebuild the 240 block and re-install it. This will also give a lighter cehicle to move around the driveway and into the garage for repair and work.
  21. Originality is great, don't get me wrong. Faster and better is great too but I'm more about what works. Believe it or not, My 70' has the original, numbers matching block. The original E-31 head bit the dust a long time ago. I"m obviously more about Upgrading, improving, updating and personalization. I love Z's that still have that classic look, but have the creature comforts that make it even more of a joy to drive. Gary, I need a rebuilt motor, plain and simple. I'll put the 260Z's motor in mine for now, rebuild and upgrade my original block over a period of time, then swap them again so I still have the original block. So I'll have practically NO down time. This will also give me time to title the 260Z and make any repairs needed to make the 260Z road worthy. At this point in time, I have no idea of what problems I'll find after I dig into it. All I know is I got a hell of a deal on a pretty good looking 34 year old Z. I've always wanted another 240Z but this being an early 260Z, it has potential in my book. The only thing that Does'nt look original on my 240Z is the wheels, grill, and the hood (cause it's black, for the moment) until you start opening the hood or the doors. P.S. He wrote LS30 cause there was dirt on the vin and he did'nt see the "H" and I don't know if the block, that was rebuilt, is the original or not. I'll have pictures VERY soon. Dave.
  22. Yah Yah Yah, you say potato, I say AIR. I stand corrected. Dave.
  23. Use your imagination for now, It's brown and it's a 260Z. It's an early Z because it has the small bumpers (not the big 280Z style) BUT it has the markers in the grill, so it's not to early. I only went to buy the motor, so I did'nt even think about bringing a camera with me. Patience my dear boy, patience. I'm gonna have to "Flat-bed it back to my house cause the left rear wheel is locked up. I think the Ebrake froze on him cause it's been parked for a few years. That or the brakes locked up somehow. Also, the ignition system is a (I think) Crane Cams XR700 and I need to run my fingers thru it and figure out why it won't fire. Plenty to do but I'll have to wait till the car gets here, Probably monday. Dave
  24. So I'm on CraigsList, just looking around, came across this..... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Datsun LS30 straight six motor and tranny FRESH -------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have a fresh LS30 motor with 4 speed tranny, less than 500 miles on both $400 along with what ever other parts off the car you want. Call for mor info 206 XXX 1431 Dave it's NOT ok to contact this poster with services or other commercial interests PostingID: 601814747 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ So I call the guy to set a time to go look at this motor. I go and look to find a brown 260Z. dent in the left fender, very little rust, (lower hatch panel, surface rust near the seat bracket, little here and there but nothing big.) So we chat for a bit, and I ask him why so low on a freshly rebuilt motor and trans? He tell me he's going thru a divorce, moving in with his girlfriend, just bought a 64'? 4 door hot rod and changed his mind about the car. He bought it from a guy who was restoring it, then died. The PO wife sold it to pay for the funeral. So I ask this, "If the motor and trans are only $400, how much to give you your parking space back for the 64'?" He mumbles a little then pipes up and says "Oh hell, $500 sounds like a good round number" So I bought the whole damn car instead. (Paid $550) It has a title issue but I'll figure that out. If I decide to keep it, I'll retitle it and put the L26 motor in MY Z then rebuild my L24 and instal it in the 260Z. Just needs the basics, Carpet, bath, left front fender, and a little TLC. Not sure just how Happy I am at the moment but I am thrilled to have saved her from being stripped down and sent to the metal scrapper, which was his plan in the first place. lets hear it. Dave.
