240Z in movies
"Just saw a beautiful 908 240Z with Rewinds on Crimiinal Minds-the opening was a pretty redhead looking through the want ads, finding a 240Z and going for her last testdrive! Will" Not the wrong thread Will. I just literally saw the exact scene you mentioned and was telling my wife "Hunny, look at the 240Z" She's all "Where?" as she's looking outside. No sill on TV. If she did'nt love the show so much, I never would have caught it. Also, it's a series 1 with hatch vents and shaved quarter emblems. Beautiful car though and has Washington State Plates. Dave

240Z Auction - Barrett Jackson
OK, ya'll missed the point. How many cars, Japanese especially, bought for $3000 in 1970, can be sold for $16,000 in todays market?? I guess one of my main points would be that the 240Z is one of a handfull of vehicles in the World that has never really Depreciated over almost 40 years. Especially now that people are trading in their gas gusslers for more fuel economical vehicles, even if they turn out to be 40 years old. I know for a fact that my 39 year old, 180,000+ miles, never rebuilt 240Z gets an average of 27 MPG on the freeway. It's pretty damn bad or even funny when you see a Brand New Mercedes Commercial, with them bragging that their "all new 2 door sport coupe" gets an "Impressive 26 MPG on the Freeway" Are you fricken Kidding me?? 26MPG from a 2010 Coupe From Mercedes. How the hell is that Impressive? I'm not trying to start an argument, get people flared up or anything of the sort. Just pointing out some interesting points. That's all. Dave

240Z Auction - Barrett Jackson
But what we all need to keep in mind is that our cars started at around $3000 give or take a few hundred. They are (even the stock, plain Jane 73') now worth, give or take a few thousand, 400% more than when they were first sold, almost 40 years ago. Now think about this...... If HLS30-00013 was in great original shape, with a beautiful paint job, original hubcaps, etc, etc, What do you think it would go for at the Barrett Jackson Auction? If it was presented as "The first US based 240Z available for purchase by the public" Just a thought. No Flaming, Bitching, arguments or anything else. It's JUST A QUESTION... Dave.

Hell if I know, I guess it's a matter of taste and opinion. To each his own. I was king of the mountain for 15 minutes and suits me fine. But as long as you're up there, the world is still right by me. It's like being on the jungle gym at school, sometimes you're up and sometimes you land on that damn hard rubber mat. Packing tape on paint
And after you get it all off and clean, smack your "Friend"? upside the back of his/her head for all of us. My brother thought it would be funny to use box tape to tape some bunny ears and a cotton tail on my 510 during easter. He thought it was hilarious until he had to slowly peel it all off and goo-gone everything, then buff the spot out, all while I was sitting in a lawn chair with a small baseball bat. Younger brothers, Why mom? Why? Dave

I need everyones input on this one (Combo and T/S switches)
One other thing, go to post #19. Those are from an 11/76' 280Z. Which is a 77' 280Z. Do a double check and see if those are the ones you need. If so, let me know and I can start building you a set very soon. And read the post above this one as well, Dave

Greg, You don't HAVE to get the Tridon or Triton Brand name, I just personally prefer those. You can purchase Electronic Flashers at almost ANY Auto Parts Store. Blazer also makes them. Electronic Flashers are the "Norm" in most newer cars, as Manufacturers slowly convert to LED taillights. Those LED taillights don't have the resistance that regular Incandescent bulbs do. When you go to buy 1, just read the package and get the one that covers a 2 to 4 bulb system. As your Z has 1 front and typically 2 rears, per side. Only one side flashes when using the blinkers so a 2 to 4 bulb Flasher should be fine. Dave, I can build you a set for your 77' 280Z but I will need detailed pictures of the ones that Should be in there. Including the Connectors on the combo and Turn Signal switches, the writing on the Combo switch and other points of interest that make your switch's a 77'. I Charge $100 each and completely Build/Rebuild a set using the best parts that I have in stock. I warrenty them for 1 year. Warrenty includes 1 free repair-rebuild-or-replacement of the faulty switch. If I have to rebuild it more than once, then I require the owner to have his lighting circuits diagnosed thru a Certified Automotive Electrical repair shop, because the problem is obviously further than the switch itself. You can email me at wolfin32z@yahoo.com for more info on payment and purchases. I don't have an Ebay ID or store as I concentrate most of my efforts and business here at ClassicZcars.com because I LOVE YOU GUYS!!! Wink Wink. I'm also a monthly Donator because this site has made my business what it is today. I keep the customer base low which helps me take my time and do a better job than most other business's of this type. I'll do some research on the 77's and hopefully have some good news for you when you write me at the email address above. Dave.

Wiring indendent turn signal switch?
And I also posted a responce to that on this forum. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30640&page=5 You need to rebuild the switch and instal an Electonic flasher. Thermals are the cause of the switches downfall. Dave

Have at it. And report your findings/results when your done. We like pictures of the process and final results. BUT..... While you're at it. Look into the Tridon or Triton EP 35? Electronic Flashers. They are Electronic and don't require the Heavy load of resistance that the Stock OEM Thermal Flashers require to operate. All you need to do is hook up a ground wire to the third terminal on the EP35 and connect the white and green wires as usual. The thermal load is what causes the Arcing in the first place. Not only will you have a better easy solution to the over amperage issue, but your blinkers will be brighter and have a more consistant flash, Even with the car at an idle or with the engine Not running. They run between $12 and $18. And until everyone does this, their switches will need the service, whether it's by me or the owners of the switch. Even if they instal an electronic flasher, they'll want the switch rebuilt first, so there is a good clean connection. But great idea though. Dave

Being polite on the board
I have to admit, I have spit a little Acid here and there, but at the same time, I try and keep it Nuetral when others can't help but be rude, ask completely stupid questions. Having Teen-age boys keeps my defenses up and I may come across as a smart-arse without even realizing it. So with that, I apologize if I have offended anyone. As for those who can't help themselves and come back with dumb comments or questions, that have nothing to do with the needed answer, inquiry or what have you, find somewhere else to spue your nonsense. I know we'd apreciate it. Dave.

#1 Cardomain 240Z (All Years) braggin rights?
I second that! We, me and the wife, hope to hit Anaheim this coming April (MSA Z car Nationals) And it would be Awesome to be able to take the 260Z down there, and hopefully some of you folks can make it as well. I know it's one hell of a trip from Connecticut, but it's a great week-end of meeting Z people and such. I've been kickin A$$ trying to make sure she gets done by then. The 240Z has been a work of love for the last 7 years and it's a pleasure to Show him off and be Acknowledged by ALL of you, Rick and Kathy, Five&Dime, etc, etc. My wife Loves your 510 and promises me that if she lets me buy another Datsun, It'll be a 2-door 510. Thanks. Thanks again Guys, Dave (and Leah)

Intake/Exhaust manifold
Use this picture (taken from the gallery) to familiarize yourself with the bolt patterns and locations. Thanks Dkd021, great picture.

Intake/Exhaust manifold
Some are in blind spots, you just have to feel around. You need to reach under the exhaust manifold to get to them. The heat sheild is typically mounted to the intake. I can pesonally do it with my eyes closed but like I said, you gotta just feel around. Hell, just loosen every nut you find under there. Just remember to tighten then all back up when you're done. haha. Dave

#1 Cardomain 240Z (All Years) braggin rights?
So after hitting the "All models" and "All years" button on accident. I found out that I have "THE #1 DATSUN". there are 2298 Datsuns of all models (510, 240Z thru 280Z) 620, 520, 720, etc, etc. Sorry to gloat but THIS IS AWESOME!!! Clicky Clicky..... http://www.cardomain.com/MakeModel/Datsun This is me, doing my Happy Dance again, Thanks again to ALL who voted and rated my 240Z (and my 260Z) Dave

Intake/Exhaust manifold
The bolts on top are not the only ones. There are nuts all across the bottom of the intake that are "Shared" nuts. They hold the bottm of the intake and the top of the exhaust. You need to loosen all of them before the weight of the intake will pull the intake away from the head. DON'T USE A HAMMER!!! In the picture below (not a great one for the discussion) you'll see three top bolts, 3 middle nuts on studs and 3 bottom nuts on studs. The middle ones are the "Shared" nuts that need to be loosend, all the way across. Dave
