When you get the gasket, DON'T get the HD Header gasket. They are more britttle and prone to breakage and blow-out. Use the thicker regular gasket. They work just as good for the intake and last longer on the header. That's what I did and Have NOT had any leaks or problems. But the header before that kept blowing my expensive HD header gaskets out. JFYI Dave.

I did what Geezer mentioned. I grabbed a POS Made in Taiwan Long Box end wrench and ground it down on the grinder so it was a little thinner and fit between the nut and the half shaft body. Once I was able to get the wrench on there, They finally cracked loose and unscrewed easily. I personally use Liquid Wrench. It's easier to find and inexspensive but does the job. I guess I'm luckier than most, My 70' was 95% rust free when I got her. Only broken bolts were the fender screws where the hood closes. I snapped two of them and the other fender screws under the cowl on the drivers side. Dave.

Nope, I meant 3/73'. Simply put, Every one who has bought a PLH from me, whose Z was built AFTER 3/73, has told me that the Combo switch's plug was changed to a small 9-pin plug, from the usual larger 6-pin (like the VR plug or the ignition switch plug. So I put 3/73 cause they Nissan made the change some where in march of 73' Also, the "attached Image" you showed is of the BODY harness's Not the Dash Harness's, which did change in that 1 year time frame. Probably around March? Ya think? :classic: If you have the 9-pin plug on yer Combo switch, There is a repair in the form of cutting one wire. but that's it just one wire and removing my "T" plugs to make it work. Let me know, Dave.

If everything is up to spec, you're probably at or around 165+ HP. Don't worry though, the nice thing about the L28's and almost ALL L-Series motors is the fact that HP can be brought up all over the place. For example..... I drive a 1970 (8/70) 240z. Stock block 73' 240Z E-88 head stage 2 cam (480 lift/280 Duration) Mallory Unilite (infrared LED) Distributor MSD 6A electronic ignition Mallory Promaster coil (65,000 volts NGK Spark Plugs and Wires MSA Ceramic coated 6-into-1 Header 2 1/2" exhaust pipe Raptor Turbo Muffler My Motor originally had 150 HP at the flywheel. Now, without changing the block (Boring it out) and only putting in a bigger cam, and some external things, it puts out over 180 at the Flywheel. Hope that helps a little, Dave.

I think that "Someone" may have been refering to the first Fuel injected 280Z's. The horsepower lacked until they (Nissan) cleaned up the system then they finally got the HP rating where they should be. Welcome to the Best Damn Zcar club you'll ever click on. Information is abound and endless, it just takes time, sometimes. Dave.

Thought ya might get a kick out of that one. 2 weeks ago, some Honda driving little punk had the nerve to tell me that "the 70's called, they want their car back" So my quick comeback was "that's OK, the 90's called, they want their diapers back" He drove off without another word. Young punks. Dave. PS. Bumping your cubic feet up a notch will help with the lower end, 6X9's round off to about a 7.5 inch speaker and always sound better in about a 1/2 CF box. Sealed of coarse. FWIW
-
figure half a cubic foot per speaker. That'll give ya some good low end. Make sure that you aim the speakers towards the listener. You can also cross flow the sound by placing each 6X9 in the back corners of your Z. Aiming the left speaker at the right side and so on. Just remember that high end systems don't have high wattage audio amps to make them louder, they made them cleaner and clearer at both HI and LOW volumes. Underpowering your speakers by using only the wattage provided by the cd player can actually harm your speakers over time. When a speaker is designed with 50 watts RMS and a max rating of 200 watts, you should at least have a 100 watt amp. 50 watts per speaker and so on. Don't use Plywood!! Tom, the 80's called, they want their plywood speaker box's back. Use cardboard for making each template, it's cheaper than wasting good wood or fiberglass. my 2 cents Dave.

NO you weren't leaning on my fenders, it's a figure of speech for people who don't know how fragile the fenders are. Here's the info page on the "Meeting of the mindZ" up here in the NW (washington) area. http://www.zccw.org/Activities/activityDetails.asp?id=59 Dave -

Brian, We made it home OK. Got Leah into bed, Played with the dog after he bitched me out for leaving him with the neighbor, then wrote Gary and told him that we got home in less than 3.5 hours (230+ miles) We had a GREAT time, finally put a lot of Faces to names. answered a butt load of questions for people and friends, took only a few pics cause I was too busy checking everything out and talking to everyone I came across. 76Datsun280z, Now ya know why NO ONE touches the Mistress. Unless you can pay for everything ya break, right out of your pocket, right now, Don't touch her, and QUIT leaning on My FENDERS!! Seriously though, sorry to hear about another Sears screw up. Ya gonna be in Port Townsend in August??? Hope to see alot of You in a few months at the "Meeting of The MindZ" in August, up in MY neck of the woods. Dave And Leah -

**EDIT*** Me and Leah will be there on Sunday. We're leaving Marysville at 5:45 in the morning and should be there with Gary (Beandip) and the gang by or about 10am. For all those interested, we're meeting at the rest stop on I-5 around 9 to 9:30. Located just after exit 282 southbound. We're gonna try and leave there about 9:30. So anyone interested in joining the caravan inbound to the event is welcome, as far as I'm concerned. I'll be bringing 5)Headlight and 2)Parking light Harness's as well as 2 ZX adaptor plugs. I'll also be bringing a new'ish 240Z alternator and regulator as well as a few other items up for sale. Hope to see as many of you as possible, Dave (and Leah) -
spings and struts are on! Big problem!

Glad I stuck with my KYB's And Eibach's. Never had a problem, everything is clearly marked and the ride is beautiful. Soft on the hiway, and tighens in the corners. Not bragging, just happy with my choice. Dave. -
Me and my wife call My Z the "Mistress" Cause if I'm not in bed with my wife, I'm under the Z. Thank god my wife is very open minded. Otherwise, she probably would'nt even ride in "The Mistress" And that would Blow the whole "Threesome" thing out the window. Dave.

you can see if it's the switch by running a jumper on top of the combo switch, connect the red wire to the white/red wire via a jumper. the lights should come on. If they don't, the switch is fine and the problem is else where. Over on the Hi/Lo switch (T/S ) the high beam wire is the red/white and the low beam wire is the red/black. The middle wire on the white hi/lo switch is a ground wire, if there is not a ground present, the problem is there. Make sure that the black wire is getting a good ground from the combo switch, check the middle connection. Also check the red wire on the combo switch to make sure it has power from the fusebox. Dave.

I never thought for a minute that you were blaming the harness's. But after installing anything, if you have a problem, go back, just like you did. You have snatched the pebble from my hand Grasshopper!! Glad to hear all is well, Dave.
-
No problem Sir. Glad to be of service and happy to hear everything is working the way it should. Dave.
-
I kinda figured it was a loose something. And don't forget that it's a "Parking light CIRCUIT upgrade harness" Because it fixes the Dash lights, Side Markers and Parking lights. Not just the tail lights.. Glad to hear ya figured it out. I'll almost bet that the formentioned Ground wire runs thru that plug, but I'm not positive. So how does the final product work for ya? Everything Brighter?

I too have the 79' 280ZX 5-speed and after that, I installed the 4:11 R200 diff out of an 83' ZX. I get great low end and also get 28MPG on the Highway!!! But I'd listen to Jmortensen If I were you, He is the $^!# when it comes to Z diffs. jm2cw Dave.
