  1. That's what I love about the Unilite, Even if the bearings get wobbly, there is NO gap or dwell to worry about. The infrared LED's allow it to either make or break the contact. No 2 ways about it. Optics rule, Dave. P.S. Having the Mallory Promaster coil with the MSD 6A and the Unilite distributor allows me to expand my spark plug gap to .065 instead of the typical .032 . This set-up shoots a bolt of lightning. I screwed up by having my key to the "ON" position when I plugged in the Distributor once, It shot a stream of lightning 7" away and into my arm, that was obviously TOO CLOSE to the coil. I did'nt have the coil wire on so it was free to go where ever and ended up trying to give me a fricken Heart attack. I thought someone had shot me.
  2. Ebay has an E12-80 distributor for 41.00 bid. I think it ends on the 21st. He does'nt say how much shipping is though. It was the best, low cost upgrade I ever did to my 70' 240Z. I now have the Mallory Unilite Dist. And I have an MSD 6A with Mallory Promaster coil. And of course I have the MSD tach adaptor. I say do the 79' ZX dizzy. Best for the money. Dave.
  3. Z Therapy out of Oregon. All they really do is S.U.'s www.ztherapy.com Dave.
  4. And I got a subwoofer in my wheel well.. Sorry, no help here. http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=6901&cat=500&ppuser=4921
  5. the cam lobes for your #1 cylinder should both be up, like bunny ears. With the spark plug removed (#1) put a 12" ratchet extension in the spark plug hole while the piston is near the top. Turn the crank SLOWLY until the extension is at it's highest point. Hold the extension and slowly turn the crank until you feel it leveling off, as you go back and forth with the crank. Roughly, use your imagination to get the piston as high as possible. Now the cam and piston are set. Drop the oil pump and rod. pull the distributor, put the pump shaft into the bottom of the dizzy to get an idea of how the 2 should fit in order for the rotor to be pointing in the correct position. And not where the marker hole is on the timing gear In other words, do the above to get a visual of how it will look when properly installed. Put the dizzy back in then slide the oil shaft back into place and check to see the timing is where you want it. Do it a few times till you get it right. It's an easy process, just not that easy to explain. Good luck, Dave.
  6. I've had the same 4 ounce can for over 10 years and still havent got rid of it all. Still about a 1/4 full. Definately buy the small can. Dave.
  7. Somebody asked about why you would run the ballast resistor with the Mallory, Not sure if it was answered or not but the Mallory Unilite runs on NO MORE than 10 Volts DC. The Unilite was built to be used with the stock ballast resistor ignitions. So make sure that you read all the instructions about wiring it up and proper voltage measurements. Dave. P.S. I have the Mallory Unilite, Mallory Promaster Coil (Square and Black), MSD 6A and MSD Tach Adaptor. No problems yet. Unless you count the time that I left the ignition switch on then plugged in the distributor and just about gave myself a Fricken heart attack with 65,000 volts to the left arm. :tapemouth :tapemouth :dead:
  8. 70' 240Z, original block, E-88 head, Stage 2 cam (480/280) Original S.U's, MSD 6A, Mallory Unilite dizzy, 2 1/2" exhaust thru 6 into 1 headers. 225/50R16's 79' 280ZX 5-speed 159,650 miles Never rebuilt. 28-30 freeway 19-22 in town burns a lot of oil though Dave
  9. I believe they are 9MM bayonet's But like Arne said, just pull one and take it to the store. Pull the T/S handle towards you or the steering wheel to go from hi to low beam. Congrats on the purchase, Dave.
  10. Maybe I should ring in at this particular time. I CAN make a harness for your Z but There is 2 ways to go about it. 1)Hard wire, which requires you to cut off your white, round headlight plugs and hardwire my harness into yours. 2)Cut off the headlight plugs from a donor car and send them to me with all the needed measurements (I'll get into that later if you email or PM me) and I'll build you a plug and play harness that requires NO cutting of YOUR haenss or system. The 280Z harness requires a lot more Labor and supplies to build so the price is $150 but you won't be sorry when it comes to the results of the harness. Your fusebox and combo switch will thank you. You'll get NO sympathy from ANYONE here if you use the VB/Black Dragon after we've warned you. Hope this helps a little, Dave.
  11. H. Houghton, Check your PM. The Part number that ANY audio shop can look up is Metra ( 44-PW22B ) And just tell them you want the black mast and see what they say. If they say more than the amount I PM quoted ya, E-mail me and I'll order one for ya ans ship it to ya when your money order arrives. And MIKE, I would actually have to charge an additional $15 for the shipping to your location. Reason for that is Jeff or ASTROHOG came to me to pick it up, so I did'nt have to charge him shipping. SO TO EVERY ONE INTERESTED IN THE IN-DASH AM/FM/DVD/CD/SD CARD/IPOD INPUT JACK RADIO/motorized 4 position face with 3.6" monitor... The price is $315 anywhere in the Continental U.S.
  12. Most car audio shops carry the METRA product line. My cost is $50 plus shipping but if you find it else where for less, go for it. Jeff, It was great meeting you yesterday. I'm actually happy that the install went as well as it did. Most radio instals take longer cause the wiring looks like a rats nest. Luckily, your's was'nt that bad at all. Keep me up to date on the performance of the DVD player as I WILL BE GETTING ONE FOR MYSELF, even if it cost me my left nut (wife is against it) If any one else is interested in the unit, Feel free to PM or email me about it. All the info about it is 9 post's behind this one. And they're $300. The SD card slot is on the top of the face plate. It is a 50 X 4 watt unit as well as Front, Rear, And subwoofer Amp outputs, Video/Audio inputs and outputs, Rear camera input, Ipod input jack (adaptor cable available through soundstream.com) Fully adjustable motorized face with 4 position tilt. Last position memory--even if you pull the DVD and then re-insert it) Here's the Soundstream info page on the VIR-8004 VIR-8004 AM/FM/DVD/USB/SD CARD e-mail me at wolfin32z@yahoo.com for more info. Thanks again ASTROHOG Dave.
  13. Also check your fuel lines for leaks. I know that sounds dumb cause you'd be able to smell or see it. BUT... If the fuel is allowed to sit for a bit longer it flows backwards and away from the float bowls. Roughly it's a lack of fuel in the float bowls or the float bowl tube that goes to the carbs throttle needle. It's not a big deal and pretty typical of most carbed Z's. Dave.
  14. That's what I thought, Simple is almost always the best way to start. Then go to the complicated way. Glad to hear it was as easy as I stated. Dave.
  15. I still havent had time to "RIP" thru my supplies yet but I wil as soon as humanly possible. With the land lord inspection, ASTROHOG's DVD install into his 240Z and Easter this week, I haven't had too much time. But I will keep it in mind. I promise. Dave.
  16. Here's what I have found so far. METRA Part number 44-PWHD94 is a fuly automatic power antenna but it has a 31" (79cm) 5-section replacable mast and a 12" (30cm Cable) but I think the cable is the antenna coax. When I was looking in my book I was focusing on the 30cm part that you mentions but the book only tells me how many sections and how long it is when extended. They might be a big help so here's their number 1-800-221-0932 I'll keep looking though, Dave.
  17. Weird. I have a 8/70' 240Z stock block with an E-88 head on it and it works flaylessly. Who told you that the E-88 won't work on a 240Z. As far I as I know, the E-88 head is what comes on the 73' 240Z. I'm confused.
  18. I have my L24 with a 79' ZX 5-speed and the gear reduction starter from the 79' ZX as well. But I can also put my 240Z starter in if I want. No fit issues Like Carl said, Your turning the flywheel, not the tranny. Have fun, Dave.

  20. What kind of radio and what are you paying for it. You do know that That's what I do right? I am an NECP certified car stereo installer. I've been doing it for almost 20 years now. How about this one, for only $300. AM/FM/DVD/CD Video inputs as well as outputs, motorized face, 3.6" monitor built into the face. ANd plenty more, I'll find a picture in a minute
  21. Hell Jack, I might have one of those in the garage. I'll check it out tomorrow and get back to you, Even if I don't have it. Dave
  22. That meeting is at Performance Nissan on 4/10/07 Next week. I will definately try and be there. The Datsun Work schedule is looking pretty full at the moment but next week could be better. Dave
  23. I'll do a little research on 12" mast but I've never heard of them either being only 30 cm long when retracted (pulled back in ??) or only 30cm long extracted. I'll check around. Can you tell me exactly who made the unit 33 years ago? That'll help a little.
  24. It's $35 for the set, Both combo and the T/S switch as a pair. Ship them to me, I do my thing, then ship them back. Email me at wolfin32z@yahoo.com and I'll give you all the shipping and payment info. Dave.
  25. It does vary from state to state but I don't think it's a problem for the older 240Z's. I see more 240Z's without bumpers than WITH. Washington State says you HAVE to have your front licence plate showing, either in the window or on the front of the car. I plan on leaving my bumper off and installing 2 rubber bumpers like you see on the 300ZX or a Porsche style. It'll cover the bumper bolt holes in the rear and give the rear a little more definition. If you look in my gallory or to the left, you'll see I have split front bumpers. Every body knows that the 240Z bumpers are purely for looks. If you get hit, they won't protect a damn thing. It's roughly a "Beauty Bar" Call your local PD or state trooper and make sure you tell them what year it is. Dave.
