Members 240Z on front page of new X-Box game site

Just remember that part of the sound on My Z comes from a 480/280 stage 2 CAM. As for the header vs. the intake manifold. It's not a big deal to remove some aluminum from the manifold. In my case, I do not use the water line that heats the intakes so even if I were to grind too far into the manifold, There would'nt be any leaks. I just wasn't about to start grinding or pounding on my new header. I had a spare intake so it was no big deal for me to take a chance on grinding it. -

1) It fit fine except for the whole intake hitting the manifold thing but that's typical on the MSA headers. I just shaved the intake lip a little and it went on fine. 2) The new exhaust pipe was fitted to the old header. When I installed the new ceramic coated header, The mating flange on the exhaust pipe was not exact to the headers flange so I twisted the pipe a little to get the bolts in. Now the pipe sites a little close to the tranni but no real issues yet. 3) I used the standard gasket because the Heavy Duty ones get brittle and break loose. 4) When I got the car four years ago, It still had the original exhaust system on it. I got a used header and 5-peice kit exhaust kit from JZM (Johnny) and installed that. I used that system till March of 06' when they installed the new pipe. The ceramic header went on 3 months later. 5) the harness actually adds weight (about 1.3 pounds) so it would slow ya down. Thanks and keep an eye out for the write up next friday. http://forzamotorsport.net/devcorner/dyno/ And you can also get a good look at the exhaust in the video I made. http://media.putfile.com/new-exhaust--Idle-from-under-the-car -

My carbs were WAAAY out of sync and my air/fuel ratio was off cause of my needles. I cant find my print out but is was roughly 165 at the flywheel and 145 torque at about 5000rpm. I'll repost when I find the data sheets. All that was before the new ceramic header, Mallory Unilite optical Dizzy with Promaster coil and the MSD 6A. I've also rebuilt the carbs since then. I'm projecting it to be about 175 at the flywheel now. I DON'T own an X-Box 360 either but I think I'm supposed to get the game from the developers after it's release? Not real sure on that. Maybe them helping with the cost of the new exhaust was in trade for the game. Not sure. -

Originaly, They called Z Sport in Everett, WA. looking for a 240Z with a modified exhaust system. They did'nt have any at the shop so My best friend who works there (JZM) gave them my number because he Knew my car had a decent sound to it. I personally thought the whole thing was a joke until I showed up at the Dyno and they were ready to take sound bites of the Z after they removed my muffler. Some of the best 2 hours of my life with the Z so far. It would have taken a 2" X 4" upside the head to knock the smile off my face. It just drove me nuts watching the other guy run my Z through its paces on the dyno. -

My exhaust system consists of 1 6-into-1 MSA Ceramic Coated Header and a 1 piece 2 1/2" mandrel bent pipe with new hangers back to the Raptor Turbo Muffler. Finished off with a chrome tip for looks. -
My yellow 71' (10/70) is the same way.. P.S. Happy Late birthday.

Build date of 8/70' and blower motor does NOT work when relay is unplugged. Hope that helps, NEXT!! Dave

They have a stock 240Z and a street modified 240Z in the game. A lot of players said that they wanted more Z cars in the next Forza Motorsport game so they put them into the Forza Motorsport 2. I don't even own a 360 but I'll have the game soon. I hope. Christmas is just around the corner. -

The reason I wrote this is if any one here plays Forza Motorsport 2 on the X-Box 360, You'll hear "MY ZCAR" when you get the modified 240Z on the game. Last March, I was given the opportunity to have sound bites of my exhaust recorded for the new Forza Motorsport 2 game that came out last month. I agreed and made an appointment for the Dyno run 1 week later. I ended up with a free 2.5 hour dyno-session, my name in the credits at the end of the game, and a new exhaust system, 1/2 price, courtesy of Microsoft. The other reason I ask is ..... I've been asked to write an article on my love of Datsun 240Z's and how it all came about. The write-up will be edited and put on line next Friday on their web-site for all players to read. This was what I received from X-box about the forum.... "Hi, David! I hope that you are doing well. We have a website, www.forzamotorsport.net where our fans can keep up on things with the development of the game and other interesting stuff. One of the things we do is have a “Dyno Spotlightâ€, which is an article about some of the more interesting cars we recorded on the dyno, and the story about the person who owns the car. So, one of my favorite cars we recorded over the past year was yours. Could we do a little story on you and your story, and your car? What I would need you to do is put together a several-paragraph about yourself, how you got involved with cars, some of the more interesting cars you have owned, and some interesting stories about your experiences with cars. Also, give us a couple of paragraphs about your 240Z, your love affair with these particular cars, and talk a little bit about your wiring harness upgrade business, too! We will put it together with my description of the dyno session we did and have a cool article! It might help to have a look at some of the other articles we have done, so have a look at those here: http://forzamotorsport.net/devcorner/dyno/ Thanks, David! "" I mentioned classiczcars.com as well with permission from Mike so that the rest of the X-Box Players can get a real sense of what the whole Z scene is like. Please read the article I wrote Next Friday and let me know what you think, I'd really appreciate it, Dave.

Headlight Upgrade Harness's For Sale (again!)
Zs-ondabrain replied to Zs-ondabrain's topic in GARAGE BUSINESS
I totally understand that one Will. That's one of the reasons I haven't been pushing the harness's too hard lately. I'm trying to make sure I have time for myself to have the car the way I want it for next years Z Nationals in Cali. I've also been considering changing my dash light sockets to fit the wedge style bulbs because the options are a little more open when it comes to bulb variations. -
So while we're on the subject of paint, Does any one know if there is a dead-on match for the 905 red that came on the 70 240Z? Reason I ask is I found that Chrysler industrial red is pretty damn close. I wanted to paint my engine block so I bought a can of Dupli-color DE1632 Chrysler Red ( Hi temp engine enamal) because it looked real close. Turns out that it REAL CLOSE to the orange-ish red on my Z. So I had my paint guy at Wesco Autobody Supply mix some up for me and all he had to do was tweek it a little to make it match my gas lid that I left with him. I painted my new cowl hood with the mix from Wesco (it's OMNI from PPG) and it's a 99.8% match. Just thought I"d let ya'll know, Dave.

Headlight Upgrade Harness's For Sale (again!)

I believe that was Will or someone else. I had suggested the use of LED's but some one brought up some good solutions from another sight. I think? -
Headlight Upgrade Harness's For Sale (again!)
Zs-ondabrain replied to Zs-ondabrain's topic in GARAGE BUSINESS
And here's one more thing to keep in mind. If all of you 280Z owners who want the upgrade harness would get together you could do this........ If you order a raw upgrade harness to install in your 280Z and you're going to CUT your plugs off to do so... Send me the plugs so that somebody who does'nt want to cut theres can use YOUR PLUGS!!!!!!! GREAT IDEA HUH?? I learned about sharing in grade school. think about it, Dave. -
Headlight Upgrade Harness's For Sale (again!)
Zs-ondabrain replied to Zs-ondabrain's topic in GARAGE BUSINESS
That's one possibility. Here's another.......... This is to all 280Z owners who want a headlight upgrade harness. There are only 2 possibilties for you to get a harness from me. I don't like to build harness's for the 280Z because of the whole plug thing, or lack there of. A) if you do NOT wish to cut into your existing harness to instal the 280Z headlight upgrade harness, you must find........ 1) of the headlight pigtail plugs that normally come from the headlight to the stock harness 2) of the plugs that are attached to the stock harness. When you cut them from the stock harness. Try to get at least 3 inches of wire with each plug. Send the 3 plugs and a $125.00 money order to me. The info is in the begining of this thread. If you don't mind cutting into your Stock harness to install my upgrade harness, then send me a $125 M.O. along with these measurements.... 1) How many inches from the positive battery post down to the frame, then over to where you want the relay pack, following the frame? 2) How many inches from where the relay pack will be to the right headlight plug. Don't forget to give up some slack? 3) How many inches from where the relay pack will be to the Left headlight plug? Remember to follow the Stock wiring so you can use the existing wire clamps. The upgrade harness will be made to your specifications so make sure you double check your measurements. The Harness will come with blue butt-connectors so that you can crimp my harness onto your existing wiring. I'll even include detailed instructions on what wires go where. Let me know what you think, Dave. -
Glad to hear she's finally getting all dressed up for the prom but I don't think she'll make it to the Nationals in april. 6 months is most likely there way of saying "if everything goes right". How busy is that shop normally? Best bet is to keep bugging the hell out of them so they'll get-r-done and get you off the phone. :classic: Good luck and we can't wait to see the rebirth of what looks to be a beautiful Z.

All I can say is "THANK GOD" that my car is as clean as it is. Especially after looking at those. No offense but half of those parts look like they were dipped in salt water and left to die a horrible death. Do you have any parts that DON'T look like they were deliberately sprayed with liquid rust?? When I found some rust on my Z, I thought it was sooo not good. But now I don't feel that bad, at all..

Steering clunk and Pulling Left 72 240Z
Zs-ondabrain replied to Miles's topic in Suspension & Steering
My best guess for it catching while driving is that the brake fluid heats up just enough to expand and put pressure on the system. Hense the brake pad grabbing while driving.??? Not real sure on this one but at least a threw a couple cents at it. Dave. -
Just saw an original in good shape on ebay for about $20. But I really need it so never mind.:stupid:

I did'nt read the whole forum but keep this in mind. All these are great ideas but just remember that what ever you decide on should be flexible because in my experience, you usually have to bend the panel a bit to get it back into place. If the material you choose is not flexible, your rigid fix my snap the panel worse than it was. I personally used a thin layer of black hot glue on a well scratched up surface. The glue is flexible and pretty easy to fix if you goof.

Steering clunk and Pulling Left 72 240Z
Zs-ondabrain replied to Miles's topic in Suspension & Steering
THe play should be VERY minimal if any. Sounds like your rebuilt unit was'nt rebuilt correctly. What is the road like when it pulls to the left?? reason I ask is on the freeway my Z pulls according to the grade of the road. For instance, when I'm in the left (fast) lane and the road is angled down on the right (for water run-off) the car pulls to the right. It also would'nt hurt to have the brakes checked out for drag. My right side brake pads drag some times and pull my car to the right. Hope any of this helps, Dave. P.S. check out my new cowl hood that I just built. it's in my gallery and on the front page, waiting for aproval. -
