need help please - engine died will not start - i am at wits end
Zs-ondabrain replied to c6fan's topic in Help Me !!
Wait!! Unplug the headlight switch and try again. If the lights still come on with the ignition, the we can eliminate the fusebox and switch as a problem. Try that and let me know.... Also, The lights are likely taking the power from the ignition (to the coil and dizzy) and the "Unfound" short is robbing your spark. Unplug the Larger 4-pin connector on the passenger side inner kick panel that has a Green/blue wire (it also has a red, red/yellow and red/blue wire in that connector) When it's unplugged, try the ignition again, does it still light up the parking lights? If it lights up the Outer parking lights with the ignition, then the short will be easier to find in the engine compartment. If the ignition lights the dash lights only with that plug unplugged, then the short is in the dash. Dave -

So you told me you unplugged the Parking light upgrade and returned everything back to stock, right? And the Parking lights still come on with the ignition? yup, that's weird. I would check the fusebox for melting or solder problems. I'm trying to think of where else the parking lights and ignition are crossed. Thinking..... Thinking....... Nothing yet but I'll get back to ya. -
[2011] What did you do to/with your S30 today?
Zs-ondabrain replied to Arne's topic in What I Did Today
All depends on your tire height, diff ratio, what tranny, engine size and mods, cross-winds, weather, altitude. etc, etc. 114 MPH is respectable for a stock 280Z. The same motor, trans and diff in a 240Z would bring a higher top speed in a 240Z as they are a little lighter. I've personally done 130 MPH in my 240Z with a rebuilt 2.6, stage 2 cam, 6-into-1 header, 2.5" exhaust and turbo muffler, ZTherapy SU's, 79' 280ZX 5-Speed trans, 3:90 LSD R200 diff, 17"x 9" Rota RB's with 275/40ZR17 Hankooks, etc, etc. Light weight, strong motor, Optimal weather conditions @ 200ft above sea level, etc, makes for great top speeds. -
$7K sounds like a decent price. Minor rust, low milage (compared to other 39 year old cars) Needs pain, clean-up and the usual things to make her good again. But $7K sounds good.

HELP! Cars not charging after 3 alternators.
Zs-ondabrain replied to Pleadingbark's topic in Help Me !!
Ignore the black wire on the plug, it's just a ground for the original Voltage regulator. The black/white and white/black should have a Diode between them w/ the stripe of the diode on the White/black wire side. The Yellow and white wires should be connected together, with no diode. You said there's a wire missing?? There are only 5 wires in the 6-pin connector. Listed in the above paragraph. You need to go to radio Shack or ??? and buy a 1 amp diode and install it between the B/W and W/B wires so they are connected but the diode will stop the electron flow from going the wrong way (That's why the car still runs after key is off. The ZX adaptor plug would have done all this for you in a simple "Plug-N-Play connection" That's your problem, in a nut-shell Dave *P.S* Ignore the colored wires on the Pictures you posted. Those are Voltage Regulator wires that don't match up (in color) to the actual Datsun colors. Just follow my directions above and you'll be fine. -
HELP! Cars not charging after 3 alternators.
Zs-ondabrain replied to Pleadingbark's topic in Help Me !!
So lets get this figured out........ Did you buy the adaptor plug (280ZX alternator adaptor plug) from Motorsport, and install it? If no, then there's your problem. If yes, are there any broken wires on the engine harness side of the Voltage regulator plug? Have you ran an 8 guage wire from the back of the alternator to the starter power bolt? When you do this, the ammeter gauge will barely move anymore do to the 8 gauge wire basically bypassing the meter. So if it helps, List step by step what yo've done and the result of that action. ZeeNoEvil, Those are actually pretty sweet. It's very clean and doesn't really take away from the car, like a lot of bad mods have been known to do. Very nice. Pat, not bad. Are those from SuperbriteLED's? Anyone else? Dave- 13 replies

I keep being asked to show pictures of my LED converted tail lights, Front markers, LED sidemarkers, custome tail light panels and other similar items. So If you have had your Panel modified, Tail lights swapped for something else, or if I did your LED Conversion, PLEASE Post a good picture of your rear-end. (no pun intended)

For some dumb reason, I knew you'd say you had it but hadn't installed it. Now ya know why you need to instal it. Yes, clean the contacts in the switch and install the harness before using the headlights again. Plain and simple, Dave
-
I rebuilt your switches but did you ever instal one of my headlight harnesses? I always suggest it because there's still a chance of the switch getting burnt again due to high amps running through it. Use a test light and test the Red and white power wires on the combo switch. If there is no power at the White red, then you need to find out why. If power flows thru the switch to the red wire, then you should have power at the 2 right hand fuses when the switch is on. I'm gonna say you may of burnt the contacts again. So let me know if you have the Headlight Upgrade harness or not. Dave

I Need a Complete set of S.U.'s... Who needs some Upgrades?
Zs-ondabrain replied to Zs-ondabrain's topic in Open Chit Chat
Actually, He wanted a 240Z but this 280Z was only $1500 because of all the work I've done to it for the PO and all the work it still needs. Leaking window seals, intake and exhaust, clutch master and slave, minor other things, etc. But thanks. Whatcha askin? Dave -

YOU GUYS ROCK!!! THIS IS WHY I LOVE THIS CLUB. Ask and you shall recieve. what goes around comes around and treat Karma like your mother, you know why... I BIG BIG Thanks to Everyone who responded, wrote PM's and Emails to me about what they had and how they wanted to help. Especially to Mike B and Esmit208. Their willingness to jump in and volunteer parts and to do so in trade is what makes this site, it's member and the Datsun Community, the best in the world. Thanks again to all. Dave and Family. -
I Need a Complete set of S.U.'s... Who needs some Upgrades?
Zs-ondabrain replied to Zs-ondabrain's topic in Open Chit Chat
Thank you Ed and Brian. Brian, I'll keep it in mind but I think I'm gonna go with Esmit208's set, as it's a running set. Bruce, that's a big 10-4, and a small "Duh" I don't really want him to run without a heatsheild. I think I have an air filter setup. And on another note, now that the SU's seem to be taken care of....... Does anyone have a 6-into-1 header, or 3-into-2 with 2 to 1 sleeve??? The car has a stock manifold with a crack and leaks like crazy. The PO installed an MSA exhaust pipe kit but attached it to a bad stock manifold. Please let me know. As you've ALL likely done in the past, I'm trying to help my brother do it right, the first time, the way it should be done with the help of good people like yourselves. I have NO problem paying for good used parts when needed but also like to do trade work when ever possible. So if anyone has a header for a 76' 280Z that they are willing to part with for a fair price, some upgrades or ?? Please let me know, Again, Thank you to everyone so far. Dave -
My brother finally broke down and bought a 280Z. It has a real messed up FI system. we want to throw it out and replace it with SU's. We're both on a tight budget so I thought I'd throw out the question....... Who has a complete set of SU's with intakes, ballance tube and carbs? Who are willing to trade for 1) headlight upgrade harness, 1) Parking light upgrade harness and a set of Sidemarker conversion Plugs for their 240Z??? All three items retail at MSA for over $250 + S/H So all 3 items and I cover the shipping for your SU's set-up shipped to me, cheapest way you want to ship it to me. PM me or email e at wolfin32z@yahoo.com if you're interested. I'm not limited to just those 3 upgrades. I can mix and match or do other things, within a reasonable Price. Dave
-
Thanks guys. As always, it's appreciated. Richard, Don't forget that I do the complete LED Conversion for the Tail lights, front marker/turn signals and I do a sidemarker LED insert kit. PM, me if you're interested. I just ordered a butt-load of LED's so now's the time to consider it. Arne and others are correct, I love my HID's but in the wrong housings, they are unsafe for other drivers. Great for you on a dark road with no oncoming traffic, but not for that traffic. Dave

no cluster lights or side makers and back lights!
Zs-ondabrain replied to aceofspades's topic in Electrical
In a PM, Dee mentioned that the switch is now "Hard to even turn" which tells me the contact plate has slipped or the slide bullet has finally broke away or slipped due to overheating. There are 4 little tongs that guide the bullet as it slides on the contact, if one breaks (only about 1mm x 2mm tall) then the bullet will fall out of it's holder and no longer work. And if the wiring is bad on the switch side, I'll definately replace them on a wire by wire basis. But you're right, I would check the wiring on the other side of the connectors (dash harness) as well. Dave -

I can rebuild your switch. OR I can sell you a rebuilt one. I'll need to know exactly what your switch looks like. I have a few 100 switches from 69' to 78', so I'll need some pictures to know which one to pull from the shelves. I'm more familiar with the earlier year switches, so help me help yuou and I can get on it for ya. PM me for prices and with your pics and info. Dave -

Knock it off Lee. You're seriously making me hate my decision to sell the green bean, that I sold last year. That green started to grow on me and now I miss it a bunch. Looks SWEET brother. Dave -
I think I have a few of the Large LCA bolts if you need some. Hit me up, Dave
