  1. That whole game started back in the 70's. The BIG 3 (Chrysler, Ford and Chevy) were losing money to the Japanese and their Hi MPG imports. So to offset their losses, they each invested into different foreign car companies. Ford invested in Mazda (Ford Courier = Mazda B2000) Chevy Invested in Isuzu (Chevy Luv = Isuzu Pup ) Chrysler/Dodge invested in Mitsubishi (Dodge Stealth = Mitsubishi 3000GT) So with investments in foreign cars, the Big 3 stopped losing money due to the Gasoline crunch of the 70's. Mitsubishi has slowly bought back most of their company from Chrysler as Chrysler picked up sales and loss interest in rebadging foreign auto's. Off the top of my head, here's where it stands........ Daimler/Chrysler owns: -AMC (brand discontinued) -Chrysler -Dodge -Eagle (brand discontinued) -Hyundai (Daimler/Chrysler only owns 10%) -Jeep -Maybach -Mercedes-Benz -Mitsubishi (Daimler/Chrysler owns 37%) -Plymouth (brand discontinued) -Smart Ford owns: -Aston Martin -Ford -Jaguar -Land Rover (bought from BMW) -Lincoln -Mazda (Ford owns 33% of Mazda) -Mercury -Volvo cars General Motors owns: -Buick -Cadillac -Chevrolet -Daewoo (GM owns 44%) -Fiat (GM owns ~20%) -Fuji Heavy Industries (GM owns ~20%) -GMC -Holden -Hummer -Isuzu (GM only owns a percentage) -Oldsmobile (brand discontinued) -Opel -Pontiac -Saab -Saturn -Subaru (GM owns 20%) -Suzuki (GM only owns a small percentage) -Vauxhall Just a little FYI for your Monday Morning. Back to the subject at hand. Dave
  2. Depends on the process. There are Sound deadening mats and Spray. Undercoating is a SDM (sound deadening material) just like the mat's but sprayable. I'll be using a sprayable SDM in the diglegs, tool boxes and quarter panels, where ya just can't reach in and hand lay or roll mat. The Doglegs are my main concern, as they are usually an untouched area and have enough panel to be noisy. My 260Z will sound as quiet as a new car on the inside, when I'm done. Dave
  3. During Christmas and other "Going broke" holidays, Humor is my only path of Sanity. If I didn't crack a joke here or there, every once in a while, I'd probably cry. Dave.
  4. You need "Half Moon" spacers. It's basically a 1/2" thick washer, with 1/2 of the circle diameter shaved to 1/4". The 1/4" part is for the intake manifold side and the 1/2" side would be for the header side. I had to use those on the 71' Z that I used to have. Worked like a charm. Dave
  5. I'll be doing the same thing and also into the dogleg area's where I can't reach by hand.. Also, if it's the same guy that's taking a year to paint your car, tell him NOT to paint or coat the window or lock mechanisms, when he sprays in there. A YEar? Seriously? Dave
  6. Modern Day cars, Yes. 33 years old Datsuns, no. Ya learn something new everyday. Have a great week, Dave
  7. nothing weird there. that's typical of Every S30. That explains a lot of dented garage doors, eh? Dave
  8. While doing Z Tyler Z's front suspension today, (Tokico's and Eibachs with ES urethane everything) We had to go to Schucks Auto Parts for an outer tie rod end and they had both sides in stock (Moog). Anyways, we stopped off at Auto Zone and found they had ES Urethane ball joint and tie rod end cups and also found the GM poly mount and the black Bump stops in stock and on the shelf. The bump stops were $12.99 ish' So it's nice to know it's readily available down the road. Wish I would have known that before I ordered from Jegs. Thanks for the info guys, and thanks for the quick write-up with needed info Arne. That helps. I'll be doing the rest of Tylers car next week (back end of the car) and everything is coming out for struts, springs, urethane and the R/T mount. Been working on his car for 12 hours (ran into issues) so I'm going to bed. Dave
  9. "Accompanied is cosy Translator" Is that what you meant to say?
  10. Paid $100 for my 79' ZX 5-speed at the local Pull a part. It worked great "Right out the box" No problems yet (3 years now) Dave
  11. Nope, we're saying that your hearing needs testing, especially If the clock in the lincoln only clicks every 5 seconds. If every one is arguing against you, you might just be wrong for once. Back to the subject at hand.
  12. I know, I was just making a point. It looks like a smooth movement though. And besides, IT'S A ROLEX!!! I'm just happy to have had it handed down from Grandfather before he passed on. Well, I'm off to go hang a 52" flat screen TV for a friend. Yeah for me.... not. Dave
  13. ConchZ........... Tarmac............bpilati..............Powerglide........ I have not received your Payment/Order in the mail yet. We're down to only 4 left that are not spoken for. Once those are gone, I won't have much of a choice but to sell the "Spoken for" R/T's if I haven't heard back from you. It's nothing personal, just business. So Please let me know what you'd like to do, or if you've sent your order and I have not received it yet. Thanks to everyone that has helped make this a success. Dave
  14. It's time to get your eyesight and hearing checked there Tom. I've NEVER heard of a clock that only clicks every 5, 10, 15 or 20 seconds to save energy. EVER. Clocks tick Every Second, and some click a few times per second. Or they don't "Click" at all. My Rolex does not "Click" at all. It's just one smooth movement. If it starts to click, I want my Money back. Dave
  15. Hey Guys, Sorry for the late responce, Been unside down in a Chevy Aveo doing power door locks and a full alarm, as well as a sub and Amp instal. Now I got an upset tummy from being upside down all day. Any ways, Duffman, no problem. Kawi585, Arne's right, 5 left and everythings on post #1, page 1. Just mail your order to me via USPS and I'll get it in 2 days (ish). Don't worry, If your names on the list, you get one. To everyone else, There are now only 4 left. Watch page 18 for name and shipping status. Dave.
  16. It's an M10 1.25 and I use a 19mm long with a lock washer. You can also use up to 1" long, I think. But kep with the 19mm just to be safe and not go thru the floor. Dave
  17. I'm gonna guess and say No. The collaps is on the wrong side of the firewall. But don't worry, in an accident, that steering wheel will still puncture and bruise ya, as Datsun intended. Dave
  18. So I guess I'm a mix between a #2 and #3. I'm known in small circles as "Datsun Dave" My daily driver is a 70' 240Z that has been torn down and rebuilt to my own liking. Power windows, full alarm with Power door locks, 90/100 watt H4 Headlights with My Headlight Upgrade Harness, LED taillights, sidemarkers, front markers and dash lights. As well as an LED dome light and map light, My Parking light upgrade harness and 2) cold Cathode tubes under the dash hooked up to the door pins. 2) amp with 800 watts to the stereo systems 8 speakers (2 subs and 6 speakers) CD player and XM Sat radio. 79' ZX 5-speed and 3:90 R-200 diff make for great MPH and MPG (depending on the lead content of my right foot) Stock block and E88 head, 6-into-1 coated header, rebuilt SU's, Mallory Unilite dizzy, mallory Promaster Coil and MSD 6ALwith 7K pill. Aluminum Radiator, 2ga power wires, dist blocks and ground wire kit (my own) and the list goes on and on. May pages worth. Then there's the early 260Z. It's a project in progress and I hope to drive it by April. Don't get me wrong, I love the classic lines of these Japanese Sports Cars. I'll make minor changes here and there, like ZG flares, ABS front air dam, BRE rear spoiler, Possibly build another Cowl induction hood (All Steel) Custom build another grill (possibly chrome tube or aluminum tube) but it'll still look like a Z, albeit a Custom Z, but a Classic Z none the less. The add ons, including the ones above will also consist of a 1000 watt stereo system with 6 speakers in custom pods and panels, 2 amps, 2 Pioneer Shallow mount subs in the spare tire well. Angled rear pods to prevent the speakers from firing at each other, Double din Touch screen AM/FM/CD +R/RW/XM/DVD/NAV with USB card slot and iPod connector as well as bluetooth. Custom seats, 4-point harness bolted to a chromed roll bar, 76 sq ft of DynaMat Xtreme, new 5 peice carpet kit, shaved door handles, remote door pop and Maxima Start/Stop Button where the keyed ignition switch was. There's more but the question was What kinda of Zcar guy I am. I'm a Customizer who builds my cars the way I think they should have been built. I make inprovements where I want them and don't really care who it offends. I appreciate Datsuns for what they are, whether it came that way or you built it that way. So I'm a #4 Dave
  19. Hey Lonny, I changed my mind. I delivered your package earlier today. I found I needed to head to town for something else so you'll see it a day sooner than originally thought. Dave
  20. Yup, made to do that. I think it was Datsuns way of figuring out what length was optimal and also allowed for ease of instal when doing the column, nuckle, rod or rack instal. I found that my 260Z does NOT do this, which makes it more difficult. SO be happy that yours DOES do this. Dave
  21. Bonzi Lon, Thanks Lonny, How'd you know it was my Birthday??? Just kiddin, but thanks for the card, I know why you sent it. I'm smart like that. Actually, it was Touching until I saw it was a birthday card. I thought I was actually getting a X-mas card from a customer. So I felt special for moment or 2, then I got over it. Thanks again, you're order will go out tomorrow morning, Dave
  22. Damn, where were you when I was a kid looking for a car. Wanna adopt me? Welcome, you'll likely find a friendlier more informative crowd here at CZCC. Not to say that there's anything wrong with ZCAR.com but I guess you could say we're more of an Enthusiast site. We love stock and slightly modded but have no real issues with over modded Z either. Hell, there's a $100,000+ build going on titled "24 month restoration, Almost done" somewhere around this site. Check it out. Again, Welcome, Dave
  23. Damn Jon, I shipped that yesterday. Looks good Ken. Be sure to post your Instal Pics. Dave
  24. They're 15" and I agree, not enough sidewall. Dave
  25. One more payment came in today. Terrapin Z, I'll ship your R/T out tomorrow. Thanks again for your order. Dave
