5 Speed transmission identifying question.
Close, enough to freedom fries and pre-Ford Lucas electrical reliability! The placement of reverse is opposite of our normal US shift pattern. Parking lot attendants who are accustomed to US 5 Speed would put the Euro trans into reverse instead of first gear.

5 Speed transmission identifying question.
Mike is pointing to the same one I was referencing. Pictures and part numbers are identical. I am a 1972, original S30 owner. Been through 3 5 speeds. First was from a 2 Liter Roadster from Nissan competition. Kept popping out of gear while accelerating, returned it. Bell housing and drive shaft swap, too. I'd like to point out, my second 5 speed in 1974 was from a European equivalent 620/720 pickup truck with a very wide and sweeping shift lever, and wide shift (RPM) ratio. Naturally, Euro shift pattern. Bell housing needed swapping, and used the shorter drive shaft (again), and the 720's pressure plate package....height sensitive. Great for mileage and touring use. My current 5 spd referenced in earlier post on this thread is from an 83 zx NA, close ratio. The 5 speed close ratio matches the 3.9 R200 I just swapped. Yes, awesome because this pairing and the 065 model cam (American) (high lift and short duration, barely audible loping) that I got through Pierre's in Hawthorne, CA is awesome. I'm pulling at 2800 to 3000rpm upward (original tach(?) is not that reliable an indicator). Original SU's, L28, domed pistons, meaning regular, unleaded. The current close ratio 5 speed from the ZX did not require a bell housing swap. Clutch is height sensitive in this model. Either use a 720 pressure plate throw out bearing combo or use the 83 ZX package. Don't forget the roller pilot bearing or brass bushing swap. The needles from the roller pilot bearing literally fell out when pulled.

5 Speed transmission identifying question.
Are you sure it's a temperature sensor and not the reverse switch for the lights when backing up? Pics look like the ones for the brand new 5 speed on ZCAR.com Are they?

Hi all
Hybridz.org is more into the exotic engine swaps like SR20DET (turbo driven 240SX setups from Japan), RB series motors that start with dual overhead Nissan cams as a base to twin turbo....but this stuff requires major stiffening of frames, despite what the converting guys tell you. The RB's are what the original straight 6 Skylines that are featured in the Fast and Furious movie series. Finally, Hybrid also has occasional SBC (Small Block Chevy) and Ford swaps, too. And, there are the usual 280/L28 swaps, Turbo driven L28 swaps which the S30 bodies can generally survive. Seen too many twisted S30 bodies from the ultra high HP stuff. LA area is a hotbed of conversions If you want more data ping us My own car is an original owner driven 72 240Z with over a million & half miles; 3 power trains, last being L28/dual SU carbs, 5 spd 280ZX, R200 rear Been through Koni / (BRE/Interpart) Mullholland Springs to Nissan European Springs and KYB Gas; got tired of kidney jolts in my old age. Got a Holbrecht roll bar for street protection and stiffening the frame without that imposing strut tie in the back. Arne and Dave Irwin have nursed me through electrical and AC upgrades like swapping the 89 Civic A/C heater fan. Now upgrading the wiring harness for better electrical efficiency. Did a 89 Maxima Alternator upgrade for 90 amps and plenty of juice. On my AC, tossed the York piston compressor for a rotary Sanden compressor, taking up less space in place of the air pump for a Freon to R134 conversion. Uses the 4 row Motorsport radiator. Still running the original American Libre 4 spoke 14 inch by 5.5 w/half inch negative offset, 195/65. Will eventually dump them for a set of 15 inch so I can still get better grade tires that are now starting to disappear from the 14 inch world. Son works for Falken Tire....which helps. Son is also into cars and is with Team Hybrid.... Interior with leather seats, MOMO all leather; Lights LED interior and exterior OTC Sylvania Halogens; driving lights are the hard to find CIBIE Halogens. With both sets of halogens....blinding but necessary for those back country roads...

Single Turbo with SU's?
I had a Crown turbo kit in the 70's on my 72 using the single SU. Technology was not too great. Tended to vapor lock in heat. The turbo barely had adequate oil feed, resulting in re-sealing the turbo a few times...Garret RAJAY turbo. THere was a beer tapper style water injection available, too. Ran Venolia forged pistons. Copper "O ringed" the head, with metal head gasket. The trick was how to use lugging to your advantage....By starting out at a higher gear, lagging caused more heat and a kick in the pants jolt Use to blow off Road Runners, 440's 442's, GTO's, etc. Corvairs also used similar Crown set-ups...

Heater problem on 72 240z
I have a 72 240Z which needs a stronger and more vibrant fan motor for after market A/C , heat and defrost. People suggested a Honda Civic or CRX, but which setup and year do I need?

How much for paint
Mine was done by a restoration guy who had to strip 5 layers of paint off my Z as I went through "color phases". Original color was 72 yellow. Then I went to 73 Dodge Lime Green. Then to burgundy, and finally stripped to color sanded Dietzler White. The last job ran $3500 in LA by a guy has since retired.

Libre wheel rehabilitation
Thanks for heads up. Was looking for the real thing. THe single clone I have is a US Mag. Bought during time American was not in business, or quit making Libre. I skidded into a curb in wet weather and cracked the one Libre. Repalcement was the US Mag. The US mag is zero offset. I get reminded every time I get the rotation done. The Libre was .5 negative offset.

What was the final outcome to this matter? Am considering triple Webers, as well. Have myoriginal SU carbs from 72 240 on a L28 drive train.
