  1. I like this one cos I can drive it any time
  2. Heh heh, why bother asking a bunch of Z-nuts like us? Short answer - your MR2 will take a loooong time to become a classic, and in the meantime it will sit there depreciating $$$

That's the 1996 - 1998 model XJR, by the way. Jmanz6: your avatar is awesome dude - would look perfect with a chrome front bumper!

I have a dream... a dream where some idiot will no driving skills trashes a Jaguar XJR then gives me the supercharged 4.0 inline six! Now there's a nice 240kw (in standard form), with a nice J-gate automatic transmission - or else I'd find a meaty manual transmission to get more horsies to the rear wheels. Gee, I'd probably even take the nice Jaguar alloy wheels and low profile Z-rated Pirelli tyres!!

That doesn't seem too unattainable? I once looked at buying a 240Z that did the old "diesel crank" trick to turn his 2.4litre into a 3.1litre - it was speed trialled (with documentation - which alone impressed me!) at 163mph. I'm sure if he'd lightened the car by taking out passenger seat and spare wheel, etc it might have made 170mph?

Ooo, and 190kph down a very skinny road driving a Ferrari 360 Modena. It wasn't fast, but it felt very fast on that road... and we got there VERY quickly!

Around 120mph in my Z - lots of noise at that speed. Another good run was 230kph in a Nissan S13 ("200sx" over here). But personal best was as a passenger at approx. 140mph in a series III Jaguar Sovereign (V12) with four in the car, snow skiis on the roof and a loaded trunk.

I like the upper grille - wish I had one of those to insert in my 240z!
  9. I had standard inserts (still in good condition) with stiffer springs for a couple of months, and the result was a bouncy ride. Inserts are "rated" a bit like springs, and vary dependent upon the length etc. I think shorter inserts have a faster rebound rate, etc?? Not sure. Anyway, the better the match (to your springs), the better the ride. I agree you should wait to match up your inserts and springs properly. I also agree with 240SX that the life of your existing inserts will be shortened, particularly because you will be compressing your existing shocks with what I assume are SHORTER springs (?), which tends to wear the inserts quite a bit. You might also end up with the scenario that your shorter springs float around when you jack the car up. That is, if you have shorter springs on top of longer inserts, when the wheels hang down your springs won't be long enough when fully de-compressed. It'll be ok when your car is sitting on the ground, but when you jack it up (or jump off the end of a rural road bridge or some bumpy bits) the springs will float around. Not the best. That's why I eventually got proper length inserts, so that I could pass my roadworthy checks!!

  11. So that probably means there's no rubber seal - just a bit of plastic/chrome trim. Were the originals backed with rubber so the chrome edge didn't wear away the paint around the headlight buckets? I have a pair of aftermarket covers with no chrome - just rubber. I always wondered why the rubber seal is a strip of rubber that you have to glue on, rather than a formed piece that you stretch over the entire lense (a bit like the seals for the tail lights)??? Might be an idea to improve your replica chrome covers?
  12. I tend to agree to EScanlon - don't discount other factors such as U-joints. I have the same sort of vibration, coming from the left rear wheel. I was told to investigate: 1. wheel balancing 2. suspension 3. de-laminated tire (or broken steel belt) I've had the vibration with two different suspension set-ups, so it's definitely not that. I rotated the wheels to make sure it wasn't balancing or tire problems. but still it vibrates! I now think it's either the U-joint, or perhaps an off-balance drive shaft? Vibrations have a funny way of starting in one place but ending up in another - sometimes a wobble in the rear isn't actually caused by rear-end componentry? Good lucK! Let me know if you have any success, because I'll be trying the same thing! :stupid:

I'm running triple webber carbs on my car, with the simple sponge filters/socks over each air horn. But just next to the filters is a small round hole in the side of each carb. I'm pretty sure I can see a jet when I look in there?? and the edge of the hole looks to be threaded - as if something's supposed to be screwed into it. Is that hole supposed to be covered with a plug or filter or something? :stupid:

I think it was based on a Mercedes inline 6 - unlike the body, which was apparently based on an overlay of a Ferrari profile and an E-type Jag profile! Apart from the fact that the Z's inline 6 makes an awesome sound!!!

Nothing (well not much anyway) makes me happier than watching classic cars racing around a suburban street circuit! This weekend in Australia - SPEED ON TWEED! :devious: An excellent festival of classic wheels and semi-heroic driving... as opposed to "Tweed on Speed" which would be something else entirely. I'll try to post some photos on Monday!

(THIS IS NOT LEGAL ADVICE!) COPYRIGHT - Most copyright legislation around the developed world makes a differentiation between the "Author" and the "Owner" of the copyright work. The author is generally entitled to any copyright subsisting in the work (subject to a few exceptions). The owner can be anyone, if the author has assigned ownership etc. Copyright protection comes into effect when the original literary, dramatic, musical or artistic work (in this case photos) is published (i.e. issued to the public) - e.g. by inclusion on this website. It is essential that the work be ORIGINAL. So, I do not have Copyrights in RB-30ZED's photos because I am the nasty boy that reproduced them without his authorisation. Whereas RB-30ZED is the author (presuming he took the photos). Many jurisdictions also recognise "Moral Rights" in relation to Copyright works - e.g. the right of "attribution" (being named as the author), the right of "integrity" (e.g. not having your photo reproduced on a donkey's butt), etc. Moral Rights are relevant here, as RB-30ZED wants to be attributed as the author of those photos. Similarly, most people who post photos on this site (and complain in this thread!) seem to want to be identified as the author. Copyright infringement occurs if anyone other than the copyright owner does any of the things which a copyright owner is exclusively entitled to do in respect of the copyright work - e.g. copying, publishing, performing, broadcasting, adapting... Thus, right-clicking on a photo published in this site is probably copyright infringement, provided the photo is original and constitutes a "copyright work" and the author/owner has not authorised it. :nervous:

Oh... my... God! You guys aren't serious are you?? I had no idea I'd kicked off all of this by collecting a few photos in my gallery on the SAME website as they originally appeared!? ...and would you believe I'm an Intellectual Property lawyer? :classic: RB-30ZED, sorry mate - sincerely. And I am happy to remove your Z from my gallery if you like? I have those photos of your Z for my own reference (that's what my gallery has turned out to be used for these days). Your car is awesome, and a great benchmark for my own Z's ongoing "aesthetic development". P.S: I wish I got this sort of response when I posted threads in the "Help" and "Engine" related discussions! i.e. when I need people to use their powers for good, not evil :devious:

I don't get it? I looked, but currently the bid is at $100.00 and there's no mention of 50,000 anything (except miles)???
