hey Jim .. I live in Vernon. Very good to see ya here! I am wanting to form a z-club here in the OK. Let me know what you think. Do you know others who own z's around here? Cheers ..chat with you later .. Bruce
  7. I am interested in these .. let me know if the first offer has no interest. Cheers .. Bruce
  8. Thanks Gary .. I have re-built the carbs with a Z Therapy kit that has new hoses, nozzels etc ..carbs are in great shape .. May need choke return spring though. I think you may be right about the motor .. and I will tell my wife you said so ! I need a new motor. What is your phone number .. just in case she need to confirm that ?? HAhahahah Thanks .. guys for all the feed back ... I think I have some work to do here to get this thing set up righ. I guess I will pull it all apart again. Cheers .. Bruce
  9. Thanks jackboxx ... Datsun has intentionaly directed this breather into the back carb and i wonder why. If it was just an inlet into the filter box, I guess what you are saying would happen, but the metal pipe directs it into the back air horn. As for the gunk .. no not alot of gunk .. but my back carb did freeze up once and the was enough gunk to cause it. It happened when I was alittle low on oli too (I have a small oil leak) .. not sure if being low on oil would cause more fumes and in winter create more gunk .. or of I simply have a motor that need some head work. The junk is a light to mid brown colour and is sledgy. I have not run this car in summer yet so have yet to see if the problem clears up in the heat. Cheers B
  10. yep ... I just cant understand why it goes into only the back carb. Should I be concerned about some gunk coming from this hose in the winter or is it likely just from condensation? I have driven this car all winter here and it is very cold.
  11. 3 screw .. I had them working perfectly whwn they were put on. I followed the ZT video pretty closely. I did set the float different as I found the measurement he showed to be wrong for my carbs. I will take this nozzle apart again and re-grease it and re-center it. I dont think the car is running properly when the choke is on yet either. Anyone have any answers about the gunk coming in from the valve cover? I often wonder about this. Why does it get directed onto the back carb? I am thinking about cutting the diverter pipe so that the fumes go into the air box.
  12. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1978-DATSUN-280Z-ORIGINAL-43-000-MILES-PRISTINE_W0QQitemZ4623172403QQcategoryZ6187QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem ## 4623172403 And what would you guys pay for this one ?? It looks very nice .. but big $$ !! Is that really the original paint from Datsun ??
  13. yep ..just did them. Where is the cable meant to be tightened? Should the cable be set so that the nozzle is just about to move? It seems to me that if I tighthen the cables where the arms are when the spring returns them, I then dont get the choke to open very much. And another question .. how far open should the choke go? Should the cable move the nozzle all the way down. half way ? .. ZT didnt seem to go into choke settings .. but I may have missed it when I was getting a beer from the fridge. Thanks guys .. Your a great help. I have taken the car off the road for now till I sort out the little problems. I can walk to work so it is all good. Cheers
  14. yes .. I guess I just have not got them set propely yet. I have had a heck of a time this winter with the choke. I cant get the cable set up so that it returns when warm and the car really doenst run well when the choke is on. The back jet will stick on me and I need to get out after a few mins of running and reach under and push the jet up. I think the return springs need replacing. Since this is a 280, it was not made to have the choke in it. I have installed the choke lever in the console from a 240. You would think this would work wouldnt you? The other thing that I notice is that the return pipe that comes into the carb from the valve cover, directs fumes into the back carb only. Why is this?? Why would it not be made to return this into the filter box? I have found a build-up of "sledge) from this and at one point this winter the back carb froze up on me. Could be that the motor is in need of an overhaul ??? Valve blow-by ??
  15. After removing the FI from my 77 280 and rebuilding SU's and installing them I am finding I need to adjust the carbs from time to time. I think I need new choke return springs and I can t seem to get the choke set up just right yet. Ok .. my question is .. what type of air cleaner system do most of you have. The video from ZT states that the stock air cleaner is the best but I find it a pain in the a$$ to adjust carbs quickly with it there. Looking forward to your responses. Cheers ..Bruce

Jayru : .. It is possible that the sump will drain the water. You should take all issues into account. I am a contractor and have fixed this problem a number of times and it is different every time. It is hard to take an xray of what is under your house. Sometimes, we have dug a hole for the sump only to find we now have a gusher and we actualy also needed to divert an underground stream. I strongly suggest you find an expert in your area and get some sound advise on site. Sometimes what may seem to be the most expensive option turns out to be the cheapest. This is usualy because it is the right fix and the cost of doing 2 or 3 wrong ones then the right one becomes very painfull. Cheers .. Bruce

yes ..that is what you probably need to do. You may also need a sump pump. Hard to tell from here. Sometimes you need to trust a pro and hope for the best. Not all contractors are out to screw you. This problem of yours can be a costly fix... Cheers .. Bruce
  23. I am wondering if there is any parts from the front brakes of my 71 parts car that I can use on my 77 280z to convert the back brakes to rotors??? Can anyone give me some insite? I have not even begun to look at it ... This is just something I have been thinking about. Now that I will be takeing the car off the road for a complete resto, I will be doing the brakes. Thanks ..Cheers ..Bruce

I never found the problem and just took out the crappy FI system and installed rebuilt SU's. The car works great now and I will never go back to FI. I think the problem was regulator issues .. but I will never know.
