If you build the L28 out far enough it sounds just like a V-8. When we pull into a car show everybody swarms around this little red Z wanting to see the V-8 inside. We open the hood and they all just look stuned . They can't believe the mighty inline 6 can rumble with the big boys. When and if this site gets the ability for sound, I'll load up the 77 280Z...........it's a beautiful noise V-8 Z...been done...been over done IMO Vicky

If Scott and I weren't so busy with work, I'd take a road trip to get your car. We have a dually and a 24ft enclosed car hauler. Have you thought about renting a truck and open trailer from some place like U-Haul? Vicky

Why doesn't someone contact the local police to go out and take a look. They'd do that for a local friend and I'm sure they'd do that for members here. Just an idea. Vicky

Did you buy the 27th-Z Chris? Vicky
  5. That method is called "Polish Chrome" (You know as in the people from Poland, not as in shine) :cheeky: Vicky
  6. In our gallery on this site, (when the gallery is up) a few of the engine shots might show the fuseable link covers (I think that's what they are called) with the chrome over plastic. The hood vents are also chrome over plastic. If you can't see them very well, I can ask my husband to snap an up-close picture so you can see how well they turned out. Price was $375.00 (done in 2002)for the fuseable link covers and hood vents. Can't remember if Scott had anything else done, don't believe so. The company name is Custom Coatings, they are in Tallahassee 850-562-0538. Vicky

Oh yes, now I understand. Brain was a little slow this a.m. when I read their sales pitch. More like all confused when I looked at that car :stupid: Vicky
  8. What about clear coating the lenses after they have been shined up? Would the clear coat eventually peel? Vicky

I find vette owners to be the rudest, at least around here. I could pull up in a vintage Ferrari or Lambo and they would still "dis" me. Seems like people that get behind the wheel of a corvette grow horns Vicky
  10. I read in a local hot rod magazine that to get the "fogged" look from any type of plastic, like tail lights, take very fine sand paper with with some water and rub the lenses. I would think that this would scratch the lenses but apparently it doesn't. This is simular to wet sanding the body prior to painting I guess. Think this would leave scratches but the more you do this the smoother the finish gets, same for plastic (?). Who's gonna be the first to try it? As far as chome over plastic, there is a place in Florida that does that. We had the hood vents and various other plastic items in the engine bay done. Very expensive and no guarantee that the plastic will not crack or break from the process. Well worth the chance we took in getting it done. Our Z sits in the Florida sun baking at car shows and the chromed plastic never has shown any signs of UV damage at all. FWIW Vicky

Chris, keep your eyes on the "vin plate" I have swinging back and forth in front of you. Now, listen to what I'm saying, "buy it, buy it, bbuuyy iiittt. On the count of three, I will snap my fingers and you will be on your way to the airport to go look at this 27th-Z Vicky

Evel Knievel lives in the Tampa Bay area. A friend bought his Zimmer a couple years ago and it needed alot of work. I just have one question in reference to the sellers comments. They say, "Our winning bid for the car was approx 30K in mid 90's. Believe that after 911 that should be worth today at least 60% of our bid to be successful." I don't understand what they are trying to say. Do they want at least 60% of the 30K that they paid (got ripped off, IMO) for the car? Looks Corvette-ish to me. Vicky

Bill, you need to move away from the "breadbasket" area of the country. New York City, L.A., Detroit or Miami seem like much safer places than Dodge City Be careful out there! Vicky

What about us members in their.....errr um early 40's. Are we crotchety? I live in the past every time I drive the Z. Like the History Channel says, "Where the Past Comes Alive". That's my early Z's. Vicky

Thanks for the confirmation guys. What about the 78 280Z or my 77, anybody know if they are suppose to work as the 240Z? Stephen (sblake01) where are you? Vicky

Correction.........The lock will not go down at all when the door is open with or without the key. The door has to be shut and can only lock with a key from the outside or by pushing the lock down from the inside with the door closed. As I said before the 78 was not that way, but then again you could pull the key out of the ignition and the car would stay running. Good for when the battery was low and I still needed to get back in the house for something and I didn't want to shut the car off. Vicky

This is weird or is it? I can only lock the doors on the 72 from the outside with the key. Sitting inside the car with the doors closed I can push the lock down, I'm locked in, no problem. Open the door, get out, push the lock down, shut the door, it will not lock. Is this something Nissan did on these Factory cars to prevent num skulls from locking their keys in the car? My 78 was not like that as I've locked the keys in that Z many times. The 77 I haven't tried yet because I don't have an extra set of keys (and I don't what to go through the hatch) to try this experiment. Anyone else have a 240Z that does this? Vicky
  20. I love Old Town. I'd rather go there than Disney, Epcot, MGM, Universal Studios or any of those tourist traps. I've seen that ride at Daytona Speedways Annual Turkey Rod Run Car Show. Old Town has a great car show every weekend. Friday nites are for 73 to present (no showroom stock, yee haw) and Saturday nite is for 72 and older. Massive amounts of fine rides, great live bands, beer, food, shops and a small canival for the kids. Old Town will even open the venue for certain car clubs. Would like to get all the Z car clubs of Fla to go some time. I saw an all Bricklin car show there one time. Remember those god awful cars. Sorry for the ramble. $30 a ride seems kind of pricey but I'd do it once, twice, ah what the hell. I also love the go carts they have there. Scott got thrown off for driving a little to reckless, poor tourists Vicky

 What!!!!??? A custom or vanity plate costs THAT much. What's the justification from your DMV on that. Here in Florida there is no difference between a random plate or a vanity plate. It just takes awhile to get it. Vicky

Those are "Zweet" Stephen! They'd look great on your 78. Isn't that how it always goes when you stumble upon a cherry set of rims in a junkyard, there are only 3 or 2, never four perfect ones. Good luck in your search. Vicky

Thanks for the answer Mike. We seem to get the famous Z exhaust smell when we roll down the windows. What would cause that when the windows down? The vapor tank in the back? You'd think that with the windows up you'd get gased out but it's only with the windows down. Could there be some kind of reaction or air pressure difference between a possible leak in the vapor tank and the air comming inside from the rolled down window? This is in the 77 as the 72 doesn't have that "buldge" on the right rear inner panel. Matter of fact the 72 never has any type of exhaust smell in the cabin Vicky

Scott wanted to get a plate that has "NO V8 OK". He really got tired of people telling him he should have put a 350 in there. Plate ideas for the Z car are endless. Vicky

Can't get the picture link to open from 240znz's post. My questions is on my 72 240Z and the 77 280Z the pillar seems to have what looks like a hole behind the badge emblem. Is this functional and/or the replacement for the vents on the hatch of the 70 240Z? I've seen a few rare autos that have a vent in a simular area but it actually is to force air to the rear brakes to keep the heat down. On the Z, is it for air circulation in the cabin? These are things that I think of when I'm polishing the cars, so I thought I'd ask Vicky
