Open Door when the Z is on a Jack?
While perusing a few other Z sites, every once in a while I'll see a Z on a jack with a door or both doors open. I've always been under the impression that's not a good idea with a unibody car. Whether using the standard issue Datsun jack or even a regular floor jack. True, False Vicky

What are your favorite Quotes?
"I used to have one of those...............shoulda never sold it." Just about everyone we run into at car shows when talking about our Z cars. Vicky

This is why I speed!
Why not just leave the Chevy engine in the Chevy and wreck that car. Why waste a Z car trying to prove how fast you can go. Someone is always faster so whats the point. All I can think of is blown tire and bye, bye. People are killed everyday for that on controlled freeways at just 55 mph. Have fun, we'll be reading about you in the obits and trying to salvage what, if any, parts are left of your Z. Vicky

Sunroof
There was a company out of Anaheim California called "Z-Lid" by Chas. Anybody remember them? The Scarab has one and it's really quite neat. I wish I had a scanner, I'd upload all the literature on it. Here's the specs... Roof opening 24 in. x 37.5 in. Lid weight approx. 12 lbs. FWIW Vicky

What is the most attractive part of a Z?
I chose profile and performance. To me these are the most obvious reasons we love our Z cars. Profile needs no explaination, it's a timeless design that many auto manufacturers only wish they thought of first. Performance, well need I say, what other car is still competing as much today against newer vehicles. To me the Z is the perfect car and I of course am talking of the first generations. Nothing else in the Z line can hold a candle to the original design. Perfection on wheels for sure! Vicky

How Close Are Our VIN #'s
I think Carl's registers are for specialty Z cars. What about us with plain old 240's, 260's and 280's. We need something here where we could input our name and/or screen name, year, model and vin and it would automatically put them in numerical vin order. Just an idea Vicky

New CBS show will feature a '70 Z
Very exciting the opening episode showed the Z comming up on her computer screen, very cool!! Anyone notice when they were investigating, the guy asked, "so she's interested in Z cars" or something to that sort. Then he was thumbing through a cool brochure with a 240Z title and Z car on the front and rims on the back of the magazine or brochure. One thing I noticed too was when they were in the car with the camera looking out throught the windshield, the dash didn't have the 3 gauges. It didn't even look like a Z inside. Probably used a different car for that shot. Also, I loved when the cop was yelling at the killer about why he acted on his killer instincts. "Fancy sports car" to make up for the lack of other things. Priceless comment indeeed Vicky

I need your Opinon!!
I think that #303 Green Metallic, (the Emerald Green) that's on the thread about the paint codes moving to zhome, is nice. You really don't see that color on a Z. The only one I know of that looks close is Ken Jones SC 280Z. A "Cobalt Blue" looks sharp on a Z also. Vicky

Scarab Research
Actually the genuine Scarabs are quite balanced at 52/48 which is near neutral. The engine swap results in a weight gain of just 30lbs. Pretty insignificant. Since chevy engines are shorter than the inline 6, the CG moves further back than with a six. As a result, instead of acting heavier, the Scarab has, if anything, even better handling and lighter feel than a Z. Remember a real Scarab is not just a V-8 swap. There's a completely engineered car here. I can go on all day about this but it truly belongs on the hybridz site. I've got tons of literature and track tests to back it up and I have the car in the garage to prove it. Also, these cars were built in the 70's and were way ahead of their time. Vicky

The Civic To End All Civics!!!!
Hah, Hah, by the way it's sitting in the grass, I've found a use for it, a custom lawn mower. The wing is the handle to push it, (front wheel drive like a real mower). The shelf around the back is the place to set your beer. The filler hose is perfect then. Oh wait, the motor is more than likely way to weak to even spin the blade. Honda does make a great lawn mower, however! Vicky

The Civic To End All Civics!!!!
Maybe a car for Luke Skywalker or Captian Kurk. What is wrong with people. I suspect the owner was on LSD during most of that cars build. I wouldn't think you'd be allowed to drive something like on that on city streets with the filler hose in such a precarious position. Vicky

As long as the guy doesn't get any blood in the Z. What a pain in the rear to get that out. Vicky

Scarab Research
Hi David Welcome to the club. I'll be quite interested in your Scarab. My husband and I purchased #189 about 3 months ago. We're in touch with a few other genuine Scarab owners and will be happy to link you up with them. Looking forward to seeing your pictures and documentation. What is the number of your Scarab? The build plate will be mounted on the drivers side, above the door latch, just under or in place of the factory Datsun plate. It will be stamped "Scarab Automobiles", the manufacture date and vehicle #. Vicky

240Z bumpers on a 280Z
I'm going to take the bumpers off my 72 240Z and replace them with a nice shiny set of 280Z bumpers. I agree Stephen, this topic is way past it's prime. Vicky

Best way to tell a calif car
Didn't the 280Z's have the "Floor Temp" sensor light? I remember reading that this designated a California emissions approved car. My 1978 280Z had this, yet the 1977 280Z doesn't. Stephen can you confirm or correct me on this :nervous: EDIT: I know we're talking 240Z's but I just wanted to verify info on a 280Z. Vicky

350v6 into a 280?
I think that car was Fred Sangalangs. It was silver if I'm not mistaken. Real nice guy with some "creative" z ideas. He also has the red V-8 4x4 Z. Vicky

Is it a 4 or 5 speed tranny?
Actually the 5-speed was introduced in 1977 so who knows what it could be. FWIW Vicky

Me as a teen.
I know this is a delayed post but imagine if you still had that Z Stephen. It must have been so neat to see those cars on the showroom floor. I took a shot of my 240VZ on the showroom floor just to pretend I was back in 1972. I think my parents had a clock like that.
