  1. You said it there Mike. The ricers think it makes their car look faster. It kind of reminds me when we used to say that our cars seemed to run better after we washed them. ROFL
  2. No problem and no offense taken brother. :classic: Hopefully Santa will bring me a digital camera and I can take some pictures of the 240 and put them in my gallery along with the '77 280 that's in there.
  3. I don't have that exact certificate they show. I have the Vintage Z program certificate, which lists the same info shown on his certificate, plus more. It is a certificate of authenticity. I was not avoiding your question, I simply misunderstood what you were asking. I have no reason to BS anyone about the car. I've verified with Nissan, the shop that restored the car and the "Z Store" dealership who sold the car to us. My Collector Car insurance company required proof that the car was not just some old Z that I wanted coverage on. They too verify all specialty autos prior to coverage since so many people believe they have a collector car.
  4. I don't think the car that is advertised is a fake. But I would verify the VIN for 30 grand. This is what we did to verify our car back in 2000. We called MSA since we were already dealing with them on our 77 280. We told them we found a Factory Restored Z at a dealership in Tampa and we needed to be sure it was the real deal. MSA gave us the phone number to Pierre'z Z in California. He was one of two shops commissioned to do these cars for Nissan. He needed the VIN and the color. He verified that his was one of the cars he did for Nissan. The price seems fair, but in my opinion these cars are for investment purposes and not to be used as daily drivers. That would defeat the whole purpose of the Vintage Z program.
  5. Our Z came with the Vintage Z Certified Booklet, Window Sticker with options listed, Invoice of Purchase between the local dealer and Nissan North America, copy of California Title from Nissan North America and warranty information. The car now has a little over 3,000 miles on it due to going to shows. The value of the car was determined by a Hagerty Classic Collectable Car appraiser.
  6. We own one of the factory restored Z Cars. We purchased it from a Nissan dealership designated as one of the"Z Stores". But, before we purchased the car we did some research. Prior to even thinking about buying the car we made a few calls to verifiy that it was actually a Nissan Factory Restored Z and not just some body shop resto. This was done by VIN number and color of the car. Our Z came with all the Nissan documentation and had only 8 miles on the odometer. We paid $28,000 for the car in 2000 and that was what the dealer paid Nissan North America for the car. Included in all the documentation was the purchase order between the Nissan dealership and Nissan North America in Gardenia California. We purchase the car in 2000 and it was appraised last year at $34,000.00. Is this seller offering any kind of proof or documentation on the car? If this Z is was the seller claims it to be then it should be on the Dupont Resgistry also.

Great story, I love when they turn out that way.

Could be a Clone. I've heard that there is some "old Lady" around the Tampa Bay area that has a Black Pearl with only 16 miles on it. Sure would like to see that.

Hello all Z drivers I would like to know what type and brand of tires most of you Z heads are running on your cars. I realize that different events require different tires. So for the strip what do you find works for you and the same question goes for autocross. Has anyone found a street tire that can preform on the track and still have enough rubber to get you home? The old saying is true, there's no point in all that horsepower if you can't get it to the ground and make it stick.

If it is even possible or has anyone ever attempted to supercharge a 280Z. I've seen them on some of the newer rice rockets, but was wondering if anybody has seen this set up on any early model Z.

Hey 2ManyZ's, I am running NGK model # BR6ES plugs. Will try a larger gap. Thankz for the info. You wouldn't know of any shop with a chassis dyno who would also know how to dial it all in? I realize that you don't live in Florida but thought you might have some good contacts. I really need someone who knows about Z cars. Thankz again for your help.:classic:

Thankz 2ManyZ's, Maybe somemore info is needed to determine the problem. Just to let you know I have not had the car dyno tuned because I don't have enough miles on the engine.Anyways this is my set up: Mallory Unilite Distributer,Crane PS40 Fireball coil, MSD 8.5mm plug wires on NGK plugs gapped at .035. Timing seems to be OK but the car seems to load up when at idle. Maybe I need to step on it real good from time to time to blow out the carbon. What do you think:cross-eye :cross-eye

Just wanted to know if anyone out there has installed a MSD system to their Z? I have a 77 280 with some engine mods done. Here they are. 40 overbore with flat top pistons.Schnieder 460 cam, ported , polished and refprofiled head. I also installed a rising rate fuel regulator. The engine runs fine but I am not completely burning all the fuel, car runs very rich and I mean rich. Would something on the line of a MSD system correct this problem? If so what would one recommend and how hard would this mod be?

The windsheild wipers work, but in the "off" position they are upright on the windshield. I've been told that the wiper motor needs to have the polarity reversed. If this is true, how is this done and is it a pain in the a.. to correct.

The '77 280Z has been tested at 215 PSI. Needless to say this car is far from stock. The engine has about 1500 miles on it so I really don't think it's ready for the dyno yet. Can't wait to find out the results when the "ZRush" is dyno'ed. Thanks for the info on the '72

Does anyone out there have an idea what the cylinder compression on a bone stock 1972 240Z would be. The engine is now broken in with just a little over 3000 miles on it. This yellow rocket is one of those "Factory Restored" Z cars.
