So on that picture (and on the blower harness) there's the connector that connects to the blower speed control switch, and branching off from that is a little 3-prong white plastic switch with two wires coming out of it, blue and red. Now, where does THIS plug into, and am I at all close in assuming this is the power? Being red and all...if this is the power, it might explain why I have no power to the blower...as this connector isn't plugged into anything in my car.

Will this work on my '72? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=34197&item=2463917737#ebayphotohosting My wiring does NOT look like this. If this is how it's supposed to be, I'm buying it.

So, if the music should be by compilation...who wants to submit a songlist?

I have the FSM, but I can't seem to find the blower on the wiring diagram. And Enrique, thanks again for your continuing support...I'll go out there tomorrow and try and find the other fuse holder, and perhaps some more wires.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Just crawled out from the car...I found not one, not two, but THREE more mysteries. Where the stereo would be is just TONS of wires taped off with electrical tape. 1. Found a thick gauge Red wire coming from the blower switch harness...didn't read any voltage with my multimeter though. This wire has a male bullet connector at the end of it. 2. Found that inline fuse on the single blue wire. 10 Amps, wasn't blown. 3. Found a blue wire NEXT to that one that was cut and made into a red wire. It read 12v with the car in "Acc," and the blower switch in any position. I am so damned close to just breaking things or buying a new harness. I can't do this too many more nights =(

Is it even possible? By possible, I mean is it plausible, and please no one say, "With enough money, anything's possible..." I know. Just wondering if the goodies from another Z can be swapped in. I think it would fit nicely with my "modernization" theme. That is, if I can get my *@#@*($ blower working...

I have not checked the fuse, as I don't know where it is located. Not sure what you mean by this. On my blower motor (the little part on top), there are two wires, red and black. Those are connected to the red and black wires coming off the resistance. The ONLY connector wired into what I would deem the "wiring harness" is the block connector off the resistance. Is this correct?

Okay...have a few issues with my blower motor. My problem is that the blower does not turn on when the blower switch is clicked in any direction. The off button works very well. Now...when I tap the blower to a battery, it turns on, and I just replaced the resistance, so those two are ruled out. Now HERE's an idea...I think it's connected wrong. Here's what catches my attention... 1. The big white connectors are a bit silly. The one from the wiring harness has 6 wires going into it, and the one from the blower resistor only has four. What gives? (Am I plugging the wrong two connectors together?) 2. The blower resistance is wired to the top of the blower motor...is it supposed to be like that? 3. What on earth are those two wires (black and red) hanging down on the right side of the picture? The more I think about it, the more I suspect they're the alleged power leads to the blower motor. However, that leaves me clueless as to where the power connectors for the resistance go. In other words....HELP! Please someone tell me where everything plugs into, and pictures would be GREATLY appreciated. Also, sorry for the huge pic size in the gallery, I don't have Photoshop on this computer. Thanks in advance.

I consider my car more of a journey than an automobile. It is something glorious from days far before I was even a thought, and it is a legacy in a sense, passed down from my Dad to me ( he had one back in the day). That being said...I want to try and 'experience' the Z as I would have in the 70's. So, all you old-timers...if you could pick two or three albums for me to listen to while I drive/work on the 240z, which would they be, and why? I'm entirely serious about this...music and cars are VERY spiritual to me...somehow =/

I have the FSM, but I can't locate the blower motor on it. Now, from past experiences I've seen (customers cars)...where's the blower motor resistor on this car? I should've checked it a long time ago, but it would make sense as to why tapping the blower makes it work, but it doesn't work when plugged in. So where's it at =D!

Now, would that fuse be a fuse in the box, or an inline fusible link? And for that matter, there are certainly a few stray wires behind my heater control panel (aftermarket radio evidence), but I have no idea which one would power the switch...how many wires and of what color should be in the switch? I WILL make this thing work. No one acquainted with the Z's and talented in electrical near Annapolis, MD, is there? I'll pay gas and food! =(

Got the ring off, but the switch doesn't exactly pop out with a turn and pull. On another note, the blower works when tapped to a battery but not when plugged into the car...which leads me to believe i have a bad switch =/. Oh well...at least I'm making headway!
  20. I need to know which transmission the early 90's 300zxs used in the IMSA race circuit when they were mated to the Q45 V8, after the TT was outlawed. Can anyone answer that question, or point me in the right direction?

I'll have to buy a spanner wrench of appropiate size off the tool truck tomorrow morning. Good thing I work at a car dealership!!! =D!!!

On that note, how does one remove the ring from around the hazard switch? Mine wouldn't budge. The good news is that the short was in the front left sidemarker. The voltage readings were odd, but when i wired in a different sidemarker, it lit up! So, does anyone have a front left sidemarker I can buy? I just need the socket, i have the lens, gasket, and chrome.
  23. gema posted a post in a topic in Electrical
Both the power and ground wires run into the harness from each socket. The readings I got were from bare wire, the sidemarker assemblies are on my table. I did not, however, test the voltage to the ground. I'll do that tonight as well. I tried to remove my Hazard Switch, and I don't see anything green, so my guess is it's nonilluminated (5/72). I push in...and it doesn't budge. I turn it to the right and hear metal tapping against metal, but still no movement. In other words, it is STUCK somehow. Do I need that "Special Tool" the Service Manual refers to? Or, do I have to somehow get that ring off before I push the switch in? And, if I get the switch disconnected, if it were faulty, would my volt readings to the sidemarkers stop fluctuating? I.E. Would there be any way to tell if the Haz switch was the problem?
  24. gema posted a post in a topic in Electrical
I tried it both ways, just to be sure. I'm never one to doubt user error. One way it didn't do a damned thing, and the other, fluctuation. **NOTE** I forgot to mention that the rear sidemarker lamps are plugged in with their original connectors and work like a charm. I haven't tried either switch, but I will tomorrow. My Hazard Switch doesn't work at the moment. It would be impossible to check if the front markers flash, as once they are connected and I turn the headlight switch on (parking or normal), the fuse pops. It and my interior lights (Dome and Map) are very moody. Turn signals work fine front and rear. Are the sidemarkers supposed to flash with the turn signals? I will take some pictures of the wiring tomorrow. It runs into a harness in the very front of the engine bay, and there is no connector or whatnot, just hardwired in. Daniel: The test light idea is good. Perhaps I could see pulsating current by the glow of the bulb? Yes, I am positive it is the correct fuse, not only through process of elimination, but through many questions asked here and at work. I'll wire them in without bulbs tomorrow and see what happens. Yes, the car is a 1972 240z. Thanks greatly for the quick replies, all, and I will bring an update (with pictures) tomorrow evening.

I need to know the cause of this symptom. Electrical gurus, have at it! As you may already know, the dreaded 3rd fuse down on the right was blowing. I have isolated the short to the front side markers. However, I have reason to believe it is something other than the lamps themselves. Here's what I found tonight when I took my trusty voltmeter into the garage. The reading on the FR side marker fluctuates between 0 and 10 volts. By fluctuates, I mean jumps every half a second. The reading on the FL side marker fluctuates between 0 and -10 volts. Negative volts? This is where I get confused. Now, as previously stated, these lamps appear to be "hard-wired" into the harness by a PO, for reasons I can't decipher. Any ideas as to what might be causing this problem? I'd like to fix it right, but I have my backup plan of running new wires to the lamps themselves, tapping into the headlight switch for power. Of course I would cut no existing harness. So please, if you can lend a hand, do! Once this is through I'm ready to begin the transformation of this Z!
