  1. Haven't you ever heard about the Darwin Award for the guy that acquired, who knows how, some JATO rockets and attatched them to his car? :stupid: :dead: http://www.darwinawards.com/darwin/darwin1995-04.html Anyways, if you read further, you'll find it that is simply an urban legend. Jason

On the left side of the screen, there is a dropdown box labeled "Module Jump". Scroll down until you see "Newsletter". Before the server/website upgrade, it never worked for me, but now it does, wahoo. Jason
  3. You forgot an "Automotive/Motorsports" category...and on a car enthusiasts forum too! :cheeky: :surprised I am in my final semester of high school. Yup, that's right, I'm graduating early. Currently, I work at a body repair and paint shop. Eventually, I'll be racing... :classic: Jason
  4. One thing not mentioned is the throttle linkage. The stock linkage, from the firewall to the carbs, on my 1973 240Z, won't work with the Holley. Some p.o. of my Zed decided to swap the original SU's for the Holley. In the process, the throttle linkage was removed and replaced with a loose, free-hanging cable. I can only assume that the original assembly was removed because it wouldn't fit with the Holley. The jetting and required angle change, as mentioned before, is a problem as well. Personally, I despise the Holley and cannot wait until I have the money to, at the very least, purchase some Z Therapy SU's or, if I find a killer deal, some triple Mikunis or Webbers. Unfortunately, other, more serious and important problems exist on my Zed. :disappoin Jason Tripp
  5. Hello all, I was digging through my glovebox today and found some old insurance information and started wondering about the history and previous owners of my beloved Zed. Anyways, it is a 1973 metallic blue 240Z. Yes, I checked the paint code (115), it was originally blue. The VIN is HLS30-163077. While rummaging through my glovebox, I found the following: An Allstate Insurance card for Glenwood Springs with the dates: 3 June 1996 through 3 December 1996. The Colorado vehicle registration with a purchase date of 17 January 2002. A Hagerty Insurance card for Carbondale, Colorado with the dates: 23 June 2003 through 23 August 2003. Aside from running a Car Fax history check, where could I look to research the history of my car and possibly find the original owner? I'm doubting the insurance companies would release the information to me. Anyone in Colorado know about contacting the DMV to search into this? Thanks in advance for your help! Jason Tripp

Hobby and career. (Ask me about my post-secondary plans) Yes, that is correct, career. I am working my way, slowly but surely, towards one or both of the following: a) racing cars for a living building/working on race cars for a living Either way, this is something that I am very pysched about. I don't mind working for free, because I'm desperate to learn and acquire as much experience as possible. I want to learn so much that it's undeniably worth it to me! Jason

Unfortunately, the previous owner performed this conversion on my 240Z. Why? I know not. While I haven't driven a Zed with SU's or Webbers, I can say that I'm not a fan of the Holley four-barrel carb. To me, Holley=old American muscle car--no thank you. I would much rather have the stock, or preferably modified, SU's or a set of nice Webbers. When I have the money, I'll upgrade to triple Webbers or EFI (possibly on a turbo engine swap). Jason Tripp P.S. Why is this in the Tech Forum?

Well said Carl. I appreciate everyone's input thus far, but don't let it get out of hand. Update on my car. Things are looking up! I start work at a local garage, Ellison's Body Shop, this Thursday. The shop owner, my dad, and myself all refer to my new job as an "indentured servitude". While I won't be compensated monetarily, I will gain an education and knowledge in body repair and painting, experience, and access to equipment as needed. Additionally, the owner agreed to assist me in the wreck repair, replacing rusty floor pans (they are ugly) and other miscellaneous rust issues, and touching-up or repainting of the Zed. I'm partial to a black car, but I love the metallic blue that is on the Zed right now....Any thoughts? Now all I need to do is hunt down some parts. Wahoo, shopping for my 240 Z! Jason

Yes, I admit to my mistakes. The thing that irks me is that I always have my license and insurance with me, even if I'm not driving. And yeah, it is a pain that in addition to fixing my car, I'll have to pay fines for "breaking the law". Whether I agree with the law is of no concern to the cops or judge. But that is a philosophical and/or political subject for another day. As far as I can tell, there isn't any frame damage. But, somehow, the radiator has a fan clutch-sized dent; leading me to wonder. I just snapped some shots of the engine mounts, radiator, and fan. They're in my gallery. As far as frame support, like Zrush said, no I don't have anything there. I recently bought the car and am making changes as I find the time and money. I actually decided, yesterday, to mount some sort of sqaure or round tubing behind the air dam for future protection. All the previous owner told me about the paint was that it is DuPont with two coats primer, two coats of that metallic blue, and two coats of clear. I've not decided on what to do about the paint, yet. A friend of mine has a paint setup he's willing to let me borrow, so I'll most likely be doing the work myself. I'm contemplating repainting the entire car black, inside and out, because I think it could use a new paint job. My other option is to attempt to match the paint and also touch up several areas. Anyone know of any reputable paint suppliers around Marietta? Jason

Thanks for your positive feedback so far. Corganx33, you are absolutely right. It is complete BS and the pigs are trying to ream me a "new one". It's not like I planned on rearending the guy. And following too closely? Maybe if the bloody cop hadn't been playing solitaire on his little laptop (he called me over to his car to hear my side of the story and I peeked inside the car, being a naturally curious car person), he would have noticed that the guy in front of me was following the person in front of him too closely, as well. It was, afterall, bumper to bumper traffic. And yes, I gave him my name, plate number, and VIN; allowing him to do search in his system for me. What did his search return? It proved that I have a valid license and insurance. I even called my dad and he brought my license and insurance card. Despite physical proof in my hands, the cop still gave me the tickets. He was also whining about having to do all the paperwork. Bite me! He shouldn't write the tickets if he isn't willing to do the paperwork. At least I wasn't wearing my "Bad cop, no donut" t-shirt. Has the license and insurance predicament ever happened to anyone else? Particularly in Georgia? Carl, what you said about the proof of the documents and taking them to court, is what I figured. My court date is the fifth of August. Maybe the cop will forget; being "aged" and all. Wishful thinking, but anyone know if any traffic court judges are Z owners? Maybe, he/she would understand, since I am only seventeen, pay for insurance (which is not cheap), gas, regular maintenance on a thirty-one year old car, and the additional repairs. Jason

The unthinkable happened yesterday morning. Sadly, I was involved in a collision involving Lucy (my 240Z) and some POS Ford Taurus. It occured in bumper to bumper traffic, just before eight A.M. and on wet streets. So here's the story... The driver in front of me, a teenager younger than myself, moved forward and began to accelerate. I did the same and glance at my gauges to ensure that everything is going ok with my engine and the electrical system, since I installed a new alternator and battery the previous day. As soon as I like back up, the Taurus slams on its brakes and skids to a stop, for some reason unknown to me. With cars to my side, front, rear, and a median on my left; I have no escape route so I braked, hard...on a wet road. Needless to say, the Z did not stop, well, not before coming into contact with that blasted Ford, which by the way received zero damage. My wonderful fiberglass airdam, headlight buckets, and hood absoarbed all the energy from the low speed (10 mph max) impact. Personally, I don't think the trashed front end style blends with the rest of the car. To add salt to my wounds, yesterday was the day I forgot to drive with my license and insurance. (That was pure stupidity on my part, and complete absent mindedness.) Yes, as the cop put it, I was in deep....well, you know. The result of the wreck? Three tickets, one for driving without a license, one for driving without proof of insurance, and one for "following too closely". Not to mention the damage to my beloved car; a snubnose hood sans Datsun emblem, busted front air dam, bent grill, and broken headlight buckets. Oh, and the passenger side bumper mount...the center-facing piece bent about thirty degrees. If you want a better understanding of the aftermath, look at the pics in my gallery. As far as I can tell, the damage is cosmetic. I highly doubt it, but does anyone think the hood can be repaired? Jason
