This what if allows any combo of heads try it out at http://www.zclub.org.nz/links.htmspreadhseet I have just bought a 280zx with an L24 bottom end, N42 head and 280zx injection so i guess if that fits anything will. Fitting twin cam heads to bottom ends in Totyota at least is really easy, possibly same with Datsun. Wasnt the 710 twin cam???
  3. Hi All, I recently purchased a restorer 1982/02 Mark 2 series 280ZX 2+2. The engine was out and was picked up at a later date by a friend and when unloading it from the trailer I noticed it did not have the traditional square rocker cover normally fitted to series 2 engines, further on examination of the paper work that came with the car, I discovered that the engine number was prefixed by L24 and not L28. On examining the engine sure enough I had a "dead ringer" looks like an L28 but was an L24 bottom end complete with odd offset oil filter mounting and wait for it " a bypass oil cooler hose". What I need to know from the experts is what am I likely to find with this engine??? I will explain further.. The head is an N42 complete with new welsh plugs.. The injection manifold is Mark 2 280zx for sure. I went to the kiwi website where they have a neat engine "what if " play thing and punched in all the numbers (check site is http://www.zclub.org.nz/links.htm) the engine calculator is reallty neat and allows any combo of head/pistons/block L24/L26/L28. So what am I likely to find in my L24 hybrid?? What car did it come from seeing it has an Enzed Oil hose high pressure inlet and outlet (bypassed).. How can I fit an oil cooler to take advantage of this mod. To asses the engine capacity, How do I measure stroke and bore without taking head off. FYI the car runs on LPG and ULP dual fuel and I am told th L24 block N42 combo is the best there is is a really clean, quiet high reving engine with very smooth harmonics.. Any comments thanks or have I bought a LEMON?? :dead:

In Australia as an insurance assessor and Z card horder I have been horrified at the motly lot of wheel combinations I have found on the various Z cars I have rescued from New South Wales. A Mark 2 had four stud 1984 300Z wheels (pic enclosed) which looked ok but when I transfered the wheels to a second car just to hold the front end up, I could not move the car as the wheels were locked up on the front struts, on further examination I found I had left the spacer plates!! behind on the 82 wrecker. To think this car was hacked around Sydney in traffic in this condition, let me tell you what the coroner would say at an inquest when the prosecuter told him that 300 zx wheels were swapped to another model car and held on by 5 thread turns of the wheel nuts. If you were still alive and anyone else was injured you would probably go to jail. Read non disclosure clauses on your insurance policy and you might get a shock. If you fit non standard wheels in Australia you have to notify and disclose the type but the conversion has to be legal and be sound engineering. Fitting a ZX wheel with spacers leaves too little thread remaining to safely hold the wheel on under collision conditions.

  6. Gday from Australia. I have taken a fancy to a 280ZX paint scheme saw on the internet. It appears to be a silver and black clone of the anniversarry model gold and black/red and black 1980 paint jobs. However this one is awesome as it features the Nissan Silver two tone on black. I have two paint colours from the paint pro website one is Platinum metallic clearcoat the other magic mist plus thunder black. If anyone knows the true silver colour used in 1981/82 and how to get the depth and lustre I saw on thsi 82 then please email me. if I could upload a picture I would then you would know what I am raving about, words do no justice, this car was the best of the best in my opinion. Picture uploaded. fyi..
