  1. Tomohawk - Our club has gone from CBs to the FRS radios for caravaning, and have no issues with clarity and range... one member had the voice-activated mike/headset, which was a pain because his loud (open) exhaust would set off the mike and everybody got an earfull when he hit the gas, but he has since switched to a manual mike headset (have to push the button to speak). Range on the FRS is several kilometres, which has been good enough for us. As Enigma noted -agreeing on a common channel is the big issue. GWGarrard
  2. Jimmy - Step one (before you put the new floor panels in) will be to replace the metal in the areas where there is rust - with enough overlap to ensure you are welding to solid metal. It might be worth your while to buy a 4x8 sheet of 20 or 18 guage metal to have enough to cover the gaps... Step two would be putting the new floor panels. Charlie's floor panels allow for some overlap, but I don't think enough to go far enough up the footwell in your case. GWGarrard
  3. Still young at 53 years, 347 days....it's all in the mind...at least what's left of it. GWGarrard Osgoode (35 kms south of Ottawa) ON, Canada where there's still snow on the ground...but the end is near (?)
  4. Superfunk - Contact Charlie Osborne at Zeddfindings (in Kingston) and see what he might have in the way of a used gas tank. Suggest you call today as he is leaving for warmer climes tomorrow (if the snow doesn't delay him). His website is http://www.datsunzparts.com/ and his number is 389-1397. If he doesn't have anything try Marc Guimont at RMC (guimont-m@rmc.ca) or Jeff Fleming (fleming-j@rmc.ca) GWGarrard Thousand Island Zed Car Club
  5. Arne - My understanding of the ZCCA judging rules is that dealer installed options do not prevent you from entering the stock class....but you would loose points for the "changes". Your car could still be the "best" stock at any given ZCCA judged show...depending on the others in your class. (I could be wrong though....) GWGarrard
  6. Will - The current Exec Director of ZCCA is Paul Gasparola. He should be able to point you to the most recent judging rules. Unfortunately all I have is the 2001/02 version. The contact info I have for Paul is: Paul Gasparola Executive Director - Z Car Club Association 6 Jason Drive Londonderry, NH 03053 Email: Director@ZCCA.ORG or avalonracing@adelphia.net Please note - this info is 6 months old, and could be out of date... Another possibility is the battery connections themselves....the clamps may be croded enough to restrict the heavy draw from the starter, but will still allow the lights etc to work. Try cleaning the battery cables and battery posts. GWGarrard croded should be spelled corroded (I need a spell-checker!!)

Ron - Was going to ask Superfunk the same question - all the roads around here are either ice/snow covered, or salted so heavily white dust is raised as you drive on them....no place for a Z.... Randy - pictures are always appreciated by those of us who are deprived of the real thing.... GGarrard (in the suburbs of Ottawa, ON, Canada)

For a brief write-up on a 3.0 litre with FI check out http://www.tizcc.ca/tech2.htm and http://www.cardomain.com/ride/566675/1 What isn't explained is the work he put into building the fuel injection system, and that he chose to build the FI after dealing with 3 webers. He's since gone to the V8 side (another lost...) GWGarrard
  10. Arne - Would it be worth your while to ask around at various body shops to get a feel for what it might cost to do the rust repair? Maybe there's a body man somewhere would be willing to take on a project on the side for you... Wouldn't hurt to find out, and based on the outcome, you can then decide on your next steps..... Good luck... GWGarrard

I hereby nominate Mark as our official East Coast CZC Photographer...with full benefits as warrants the position.... Superb work Mark....as always Many thanks for sharing GWGarrard
  12. Onuthin; It might be a transition model between the Series 1 and 2 cars. A friend has a similar car which has/had both the pillar vents and hatch vents... I don't know the build date off hand but I believe it is 11/70 or 12/70 GWGarrard
  13. ArneTX - I resolved a similar issue by buying a 280ZXT 2+2 (no 260Z or 280Z 2+2s w/o rust in this area). The 240Z with two seats could not carry our family of 3 so it was either left in the garage or 2 cars were driven. When my wife remarked that she wasn't happy following behind my son and I in the Z all the time, my answer was the 2+2. This has worked great for the last 4 years. I also agree with Jayhawk regarding the 95-03 Maxima. I have had 2 (95 and 98) Maximas and when the '00 Altima SE needs replacing I'll be looking at Maximas again....SE 6 speed of course (I always considered them "Four door Zeds"). The Minivan sits in the garage the most of all the cars... GWGarrard
  14. I have to say I prefer mine "with" ... as long as they are colour matched.... GWGarrard

Stephen - Other options for seats in a 240Z include the mid-80's Toyota Corolla GTS/ Supra Seats, Honda Civic and mid-80's Prelude seats. I have '84 Prelude seats in my 72....bolted to a steel plate which in turn is bolted to the Z factory mounting. This way I can remove the Honda seats and re-install my Z seats quickly... GWGarrard

I'm not aware of a list of seats per say....the 2 fellows in our club with 280Zs who have changed their seats have installed aftermarket racing seats....Corbeaus (I think) GWGarrard TIZCC
  17. Carl - Many thanks for making the connection for us with the Brock family. The report sounds very positive, and we wish Peter a full and speedy recovery. GWGarrard Pres, Thousand Island Zed Car Club

One of our club members posted this footage on youtube.com http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDHx0UmPSco If you search youtube for marcguimont he has several Z videos up. GWGarrard Thousand Island Zed Car Club
  19. Vexxation - Where are you in Alberta? There are Zed clubs both in Calgary and Edmonton. The web link for the Calgary club is www.calgaryzclub.ca and the link I have for the Edmonton club is http://natasha.tepid.org/~mike/index.htm Suggest you make contact with some local Zed persons.... Regards GWGarrard
  20. Ken - The GrassrootsMotorsports $2007 Challenge is scheduled for October 4 to October 6 in Gainesville...should we advise the editors of Grassroots Motorsports/ Classic Motorsports magazines of the ZCCA Convention dates? Would be a great opportunity to get some coverage of the event... Just a thought GWGarrard President, Thousand Island Zed Car Club www.tizcc.ca

I'm with 1 Bravo 6....time to admit your age, and appreciate the finer things in life...Camping out of a Zed was done when we were young and foolish. GWGarrard
  22. Mark - I see a big improvement in ride height. Hope you're pleased.... Regards GWGarrard
  23. I have Centreline Razors on my ZX...15x8. No issues with them. The tire installer did complain about the hassle he had balancing them...but his extra effort made the car a dream to drive... GWGarrard

Randy - I run 20w50 dino oil (usually Castrol GTX) and 91 octane gas in my Zeds...94 octane on track days.. GWGarrard
  25. Randy - The striker plate on the door frame (under the car serial plate) can be loosened slightly and adjusted inwards. The best approach is to slightly loosen the 3 bolts, close the door gently, then push the door in. Open the door, and tighten the bolts. Check the closing action - you shouldn't have to slam the door to latch it...might take a few trys to get it where you want it. GWGarrard
