Z car magazines
Slobound76 - Two other magazines I enjoy (while not 100% Datsun content) are GrassRoots Motorsports (http://www.grassrootsmotorsports.com/) and Classic Motorsports (http://www.classicmotorsports.net/)...both from the same publisher. The most recent issue of Classic Motorsports includes a short writeup on their 240Z renewal work.... GWG

MSA is selling 280Z Eibach springs
Mark - As promised - below are the before (with stock springs and KYB Gas-Just shocks) and after ( Tokico HPs and Eibach Pro springs). Note the "after" picture is before having driven the car to let the springs settle.... Regards GWG Edit - I must be doing something wrong when trying to attach the files...pointers are appreciated... Thanks GWG

MSA is selling 280Z Eibach springs
Mark - I think you'll be pleased with the results after you complete the change. Well worth the extra effort. First picture is of the KYBs with stock springs, second is Tokico HPs with Eibach pros. GWGarrard Sorry - files too big to attach...I'll have to fix that... GWG

Side molding on 240 body
In my case - I applied the double-sided tape variety of side molding after the repaint to protect from parking lot incidents... The car did not have them originally. If your car does have the stick-on molding they can likely be removed with a hair dryer or heat gun. GWGarrard

240z vs 911
Other option is to compare invoices once both restorations are complete... Your total will beat his comparatively at the bank.... GWGarrard

Spring Help for my '78 280Z
JMark - I have the Eibach pro-springs mated with Tokico Blue shocks on my 280ZXT....and am pleased with the ride quality. (I went from KYB Gas-Justs shocks with stock springs to the Eibach/Tokico combo which dropped the car 1 inch.) GWGarrard

Started putting my Z away this weekend
Well - I will report from the Great White North that the Zed is now tucked away for the season, the snow tires are on the Altima (a bit early), and the furnace is set at 68deg F....and running... 2 inches of snow was reported along the St Lawrence River this past Friday evening in the Brockville ON area....and since I'm 35 miles north, I decided I didn't want to chance it...besides I hate scrapping car windows in the morning. (Z in storage = Altima in the garage) GWGarrard

Cold storage
Ed - I agree with Beandip regarding the condensation in the trailer....I use a plastic portable garage to store my boat, and have noted the condensation (ice droplets) forming on the inside of the roof, even with the door flaps left partly open at 20 below C. I store my Zed in a unheated barn along with probably 20 boats and another 20 cars. The owner leaves the south east facing windows open in the barn all winter to remove any moisture, and with window overhangs, no snow gets in.... GWGarrard

15 x 7 Panasport/Konig Tire choices
Mark - You "might" have issues with tire clearance versus the rear fender lips with the 225's...something to keep in mind... GWGarrard

Hi all - Couple questions
GT-Rob - A word of caution...if you do find a car state-side that you want to import into Canada, note that the title transfer papers should be sent to Cutoms at least one week prior to you bringing the car across, to allow for administrative processing. Otherwise you might arrive at the border and not be allowed to continue with the car. Might be worth contacting a Customs Broker to confirm what process to follow... There's also a small dealer in Ottawa who usually has a few Zs on the lot... http://autowaysales.ca/index.html - he might have something of interest (although I find his prices are on the high side...) Good luck in finding the Z for you. GWGarrard

not charging?
Another suggestion while cleaning the plug connections at the alternator is to remove the bakelite cover (2 small philips screws) where the wires plug into the alternator and remove/check the brushes. I have found that after the car sits for a while (winter storage) a quick cleaning of the brushes with some sandpaper always improves the alternator output. GWGarrard

Smart car
They're also currently available in Canada, although I would be concerned with the capabilities in the snow....they're narrower than most cars on the road. One here in Ottawa is licensed "SPLATT" which I think is rather appropriate.... GWGarrard

240Z Paint Feedback
BD280Z - Here's a picture with suspension in place of a completely restored 240Z where he painted the fenderwells to match the body panels. Car belonged to Robert Miron of Montreal, Canada. He used to drive to the shows and put it on jackstands as part of his display... (mine are painted black.....) GWGarrard

Do Deer whistles actually work?
My first experience with the deer whistles was a couple of years ago, driving our "new to us" van home one evening. The previous owner had installed the little plastic stick-on whistles under the bumper. The deer turned around and bolted back into the woods...instead of up onto the road. I have since put a pair on the front end of our Altima, but haven't yet put them on the Z. I agree the best defence is to be alert...but sometimes they appear out of nowhere.. So far my experience is leaning towards the whistles being a good investment...($8.00 CDN) GWGarrard

70 to 71 differences
Eric - Canadian 240Z speedos were in miles/hour. We only went to the metric side in the late 70's (77/78ish). GWGarrard Osgoode, Ontario

Few questions
Mike - The extra set of 10, 12,14 and 17 mm sockets and wrenches are in the travel pack we keep behind the car seat (and rarely need). The shiny red cabinets and tool chests are status symbols we keep in the garage to impress the neighbors (and thieves) when we forget to close the garage doors. KenshinX - As others have already mentioned - buy high quality tools - your fingers and knuckles will appreciate it...I prefer Snap-on tools - but my bank account suffers accordingly... If you have limited space in the garage - look at opportunities to hang things off the walls or stash in the rafters, because you will need as much open floor space as possible when working on the car. Sport Z Mag. Closing Down
Sorry to read of the demise of Sport Z magazine, but I wish Art and company the best of luck with their new venture. I look forward to seeing what Nissan Sport is all about. Guess I'll have to squirrel away my copies of Sport Z with the previous ZCar magazine version and hope my wife doesn't find the stash... GWGarrard
