There has been a shop there as long a I can remember. I don't know if it's still in the same hands, though. Maybe they were trying to "level" the car.

The shop is still there. See if they remember.
  3. The first switch lasted almost 40 years. Why do you think you'll need to remove the replacement anytime soon? All you'd be doing is making it even easier to steal your car.

The 73 & 74 seem to share the upper mounting points and middle lower mounting points. However, the outer lower mounting points appear to be different due to the change in the bumper mounting. 73 (early) 74 I hope the pictures show enough detail to explain the differences. It's nice to have the two Zs in the garage to compare side-by-side.

I'll try to remember to look tomorrow.
  6. Cliff, thanks for the laugh. It's been a long work week for me.
  7. The good Captain is right. I want to see if I can hook up a scope to create a visual of it.

I live about half an hour from AMP. I'm planning on hanging out at the track day. Of course, I'll also make the cruise down to Carrollton for the main show.
  9. Cliff, remind me in a couple of days. I'm taking next week off from work, so I'll be playing with car stuff. I can do more of a write-up on the gas gauge.
  10. Click on the link in the first post. Then find the bitmap file in that link, "Datsun to Honda wiper diagram". It is a diagram of the wiring for the relay.

I haven't purchased anything from Al in a while. He did a crappy prep job on the last part I bought from him. I thought I could trust him on something that doesn't have any moving parts. I was wrong. I agree about getting the head checked out by a competent machinist.

While the coolant line being looped would cause overheating (along with the missing thermostat), improper coolant circulation would not cause a pressure build up. That was caused by the radiator cap. It has a pressure rating. Once pressure builds, there is the potential for the weak spot to be found. You found it. Who knows how old and rotten those hoses were? I assure you that bad brakes or a passenger compartment that in an accident could crumple like an empty beer can will probably kill you faster than 220 degree coolant. It's good to hear you didn't get badly scalded. If you're planning on driving it any more before you take it apart, start looking for other old rubber pieces that are ready to give way (brake hoses, fuel hoses, etc.), and give the car a good once-over to look for any other repair kludges the previous owner might have performed.

I'll see what's up with Chet's car. With the auction ended early, something's up.

You might want to get that block cleaned out professionally.
  15. Sorry, track day for ZNationals is going to be up toward my house. The Saturday event is going to be at Z1's facilities in Carrollton, GA.
  16. Just bring it out to meet with us. No one is going to turn you away because of how your car looks. At least be sure to make it out to Z Nationals. Heck you might be closer to Z1 than I am.
  17. I took the 260Z out to a car show to meet up with other members of the Georgia Z Club. For all of the pictures, go here: Po Boys ? June 2014 (82 Pictures) | Steve's CARtography
  18. Matt, if you're not working tomorrow, bring the car over to Stephen Rogers' place. Tim & I can look at it.

Carl, I talked with Chet today. He appreciated your endorsement of his work.

I was pointing out the green to my wife just about an hour ago. I saw the car in person at Caffeine & Octane three weeks ago. There wasn't much attention to detail, especially under the hood. I didn't try to look underneath, though, so I can't tell you anything about the floor pans or frame rails.

I felt the white one had a rather poor level of detailing, especially since they were trying to sell it for $16,900 about a month or two ago. It seemed like a $10,000 car to me.

Here are some pictures I took of Chet's car back in May: Caffeine & Octane ? May 2014 Edition (82 Pictures) | Steve's CARtography

It's a little unusual to see so many 240Zs listed at the same time in my neck of the woods. Datsun Z Series Historical Race Car | eBay Datsun Z Series 240Z | eBay Datsun Z Series 240Z | eBay I've seen the last two in person. I know the seller of the third car. Chet is a member of the Georgia Z Club. This isn't the first Z he has restored.
  24. Yes, I got the KYBs from Rockauto.
  25. I know that in my 260Z, I would feel a pretty good thump at the transition between the driveway and street when going up my driveway. The thump disappeared after changing springs & struts.
