  1. I'm just glad it didn't end up worse for you. This is yet another example of why a fire extinguisher is a mandatory item to keep in your classic Z.
  2. The transistor unit is for the ignition. Look up 280Z ECU on Google and look at the images. Also, refer to the FSM. That will give you a better idea of where to look. If that fails, bribe me to come over. Diet Mountain Dew usually works.

Considering Cheetahs were fiberglass, I would say 2000GT.

In that condition, it's criminal abuse.
  5. Jeremy, here's a link to the Po Boys show: https://www.facebook.com/events/658873810851387/
  6. I'm glad that resolved the issue. If you're on Facebook, join the Georgia Datsun Owners Group. I think one member is trying to have a get-together at his house this Sunday. Also several of us from the Georgia Z Club are going to the Po Boys car show on the 21st. Just look for the events calendar on the Georgia Z Club FB page.

If coolant is getting into the combustion chamber, it can get into the oil. Water won't lubricate the bearings or other moving parts very well.
  8. If it's the fuel gauge, you could try Bob's Speedometer. I believe there are procedures to test the sending unit in the FSM. The gauge is trickier to test. I don't have time at the moment to describe testing it. I am not sure where to get a sending unit refurbished. They are NLA.
  9. I used Chevette springs at all 4 corners. I cut 3 coils off the front and 1.75 off the rear. It is at about stock ride height. It has a firm ride that doesn't seem to jar, but then again, roads are smoother down South. IMHO, try going with 16x7 instead of 15s. You have a better selection of tires.
  10. The 72 doesn't have an intermittent wiper amplifier.

Search for wiper park. I think there is something on this site about that. You might have to just google that with the model of your car.
  12. Read up on cleaning the wiper linkages. Replacing the wiper motor to account for the old linkages is like putting a new engine in the car to compensate for bad wheel bearings. Besides that, the dirty, sticky linkages cause the wiper motor to draw more current, potentially putting your wiring at risk. As for the jets, have you tried to clean them? I have shoved thin strands of wire into them to clean them out. Ultrasonic cleaning may work as well. You can disconnect the jets from the tubing to see if the washer motor still works.
  13. Flat-top carburetors - I'm thinking it's a 73.
  14. Hard rubber usually means longer life and less traction. Unless your car is a daily driver, you can get away with a softer compound. Tread pattern will usually dictate noise. Then again, with a 40 year-old car, you usually get plenty of noise from other sources.

Check your u-joints to make sure they are not excessively worn and that all of the bolts are on and tight.
  16. Here's the picture with the Rewinds. I need to take another to show the car with the new springs.
  17. I like a firmer ride. With the stiffer springs and 16s, I do feel some bump steer when I get to the small drop at the end of the driveway. You can get a wider variety of tread compounds in the 16 inch tire, so if you want to improve performance and traction, you have more options. The Rewinds have received more than their fair share of complements over the Iron Cross ZX wheels that you can barely make out in my avatar. I think I have a picture of my car with the Rewinds in the "What did you do with your S30" thread.
  18. I didn't have any problems with dust caps on mine.
  19. The price is in line with what I paid for Rewinds/Khumos. I did pick up a rub on the driver rear with 215 tires. I can't remember the sidewall, but I think they were 55 or 50. I swapped out the springs/struts for Chevette springs & KYB struts. It will still rub a little on a big bump at freeway speeds, but it has to be a pretty big bump. I have to think that the rub is due at least in part to the 250lbs of dead weight behind the wheel.
  20. It's easy to test the ignition relay with a couple of 6VDC batteries, some clip leads, and a multimeter. Let me know if you would like some assistance sometime.
  21. Matt, bring it by my house. If the wiring was messed up too bad by IPOs, I can help you with the gremlins quickly.

I bought the seat foam from Banzai Motorworks, and I didn't use anything between the foam and springs. I didn't see a need to use anything.
