Where do I find this spell checker, my firefox says no update available so I think I am current. 1.5.0.7?

I'm on the road, not off the scale -- not sure that's a good thing.
  3. I think that the mods should be "tastefully" done and fit in with the overall feel of what an S30 should be. However, what is tasteful can vary widely depending on one's taste or lack thereof. I guess it all depends on what you want and use your car for -- track (actual racing) or track days (on occassion), street fighting, show, originality, custom. There are times when outrageous may serve a purpose. I like subtle customization on the exterior and interior (like it could have come from the factory that way if it was made today) and a sleeper under the skin so to speak -- better brakes, suspension, engine mods. Just thinking out loud - even my own opinions of tasteful change over time, especially when I see the great job other Z'ers on this site have done with their cars.
  4. The bellhousing for the 280ZX T-5 is a match for any of the L Series (L24,L26, or L28) for the first and second generation Z. As far as I know the driveshaft is what has to be altered to fit between the tranny and diff on the 240Z - 280Z. Others on this site could probably give you more help and of course there is always Hybrid Z at http://hybridz.org/ that has lots of information on these types of mods. I had a 280ZX T 2+2 that I was going to use the turbo motor and the T-5 for one of my projects, but sold it instead to help finance a less modified 1970 240Z project -- still went with a 280ZX engine bored out with flat top pistons and a 280ZX five speed (non-T-5) though.
  5. E Good advise, he sent me several amazing pictures of the work as it progressed. Gary D.
  6. Mike, When I click the link it comes back as "not found" however I read about the deal in another thread posted on here. Great price - very interested, just don't think I can swing the $$$$s right now. Other parts of my project will come first. Thanks for bringing it to our attention. Gary
  7. Add to my list the Series I fog light switch that is being discussed in the Fog Light Wiring 2 thread. It looks similar to the hazard switch as posted by Enrique in his discussion:

If it wasn't "marginal" I'd take the A/C off your hands because it would come in handy in Eastern Washington. Maybe when things are done I'll invest in one of those pricey new MSA units.

Thanks Enigma, The tranny was on my 240Z motor and I just planned on moving it to the 280ZX motor without changing anything parts wise. I have read about not mixing up throw out collar, etc. in other threads. I knew I should resurface the flywheel and I will take your advice and replace the clutch disc since I'm already there. I am finding out I do like taking things apart, but that will stop when everything is back together (I hope) -- I do want to drive the thing one of these days. Thanks again, Gary

Is that the one that was originally listed as fitting the 240Z, if so I wrote him and told him I believed it was the one for the 280Z and sent a link to a discussion we had on this site. He actually wrote back saying he appreciated the heads up and would change the description. Normally I just keep my mouth shut because if I hear back it is usually with a negative comment. I know I actually like it if people correct my descriptions -- more likely to get a bidder who is happy with the transaction. But I'd have hated to see a 240Z owner pay a bunch for something that would probably not work for his/her application. Gary D.

I think it was the short ears with the holes centered in the middle that kept making me think mine must have been the older 5 speed. But all the rest of the tranny features do point to the newer box. Is it a bad idea to reuse the clutch from my old project? As I said it is somewhat of an unknown quantity as I only drove that car once before I started taking her apart. I'd like to get all new - turbo oil pump, gear reduction starter, new mechanical fuel pump etc. etc., but for now I can probably only afford to reuse what I can and buy new what I can't. I'll get the flywheel resurfaced/renewed and ask what the guys think of the clutch when I do that I guess. I do have the 280ZX dizzy with the e12-80, but most of this has got to wait until the "new" shell is repaired, prepped and painted anyway.
  12. Thanks everybody -- So I guess that it depends on what month your car was built as to whether it was two studs and a bolt or three studs. It kind of makes sense because the two heads I have that had studs (2) still in them are E31s and should be off some of the earliest examples of the 240 lending credance to the two studs/1 bolt set up until 4/70. This has been an interesting thread if I do say so myself, glad I started it. Next time I'll check the parts CD if I can find where I mislaid it. You people are the most helpful and knowledgable folks I know when it comes to these cars. Thanks again.
  13. That's a nice car. I like the color even if it isn't original. I wouldn't change anything, unless it puts it back to more stock because it is such an early example. I am sure you would do very well selling it on eBay. You need to describe whether there are any rust problems as that's what most of us worry about, but it looks well maintained. Was it once in Colorado? I see it was registered on the Classic Z Car registry in April 1999 by Bob Smith. I am sure there are people here that can give you some very good advice. Good luck, sorry you have to let her go.
  14. Thanks for the quick response and info BD280Z, I considered that the lower one might be an actual bolt, not a stud with a nut.
  15. Couple quick questions. I've done searches for both, but came up short of an answer to my questions after much reading. 1.) My old 240Z has only two studs for the mechanical fuel pump on the E88 gead. My three spare heads all only have two studs (even though all are threaded for three studs). My rebuilt P90 has the hole for the mech. pump, but of course no studs due to it being for the fuel injected application in its previous 280ZX configuration. I read in my 1970 FSM under fuel pump removal to "unscrew the three mounting bolts...." I have extra studs I can take off the other heads so my guess is I need to add another to the P90. 2.) This may sound silly, but is there a special tool for removing the tranny drain plug? My late 5 speed has a square indent that looks like something must fit in there. I've never had a plug like this before to deal with and don't have the tool I guess. Of course I lost most of the oil when I seperated the tranny and driveline anyway. More oil for my poor wooden garage floors -- I guess it makes them more water resistant, if not smellier.

Click Photo Gallery in the list on the left side of the home screen, chose upload photos, browse to where you have your photos saved, i.e your hard drive, and chose the photo you want to upload and click open, go to next blank for next image, repeat. Keep chosing one per blank and then hit upload. That should work so you can share a few.

Thanks guys, I don't know why but I stared at various photos and I kept coming to the conclusion that it was the earlier car. I'm glad it is the later unit. I'm going to clean it up today and then pull the L24 block and 4 speed from my black '70. If my welder buddy shows up later in the week we'll strategize about fixing the hole below the battery box. I've got replacement frame rails if we decide they need to be beefed up, but I think they're in pretty good nick. I haven't decided whether I need a new clutch or not, since I only drove the red Z once before I started pulling it apart. I will have the flywheel resurfaced though. The engine transplant will have to wait for paint anyway -- something to fiddle with this winter. I'd better crank up the woodstove. A7dz -- Have you been to the Wendle Nissan in Spokane or just always done business on the phone? I'll ask for Jim Banner next time I am in town or dealing on the phone. I stopped by once on my way out of Spokane and was not happy with the salesman who just kept pushing me at the 350Z and kind of ingnore it when I said I had a 240Z. Once I said I couldn't afford the new car (even though I don't care for the looks much) he left me alone. I sat in the new car and it felt great -- looked like a fun drive, but I prefer the classic.

From a quick search of the forums I believe my 5 speed is an early model from a 280Z, not a 280ZX. I just pulled the L24 and tranny from my abandoned project so I can use the 5 speed in my new project on my newly rebuilt L28 F54. This was my first engine pull by myself or with anyone else for that matter. Next I have to pull the L24 (stripped block) from my "new" 70 240Z so I can repair the battery box area and do other work (paint, etc.) before everything goes back together. I've included a couple photos of the tranny to see if I am right in my belief on the 5 speed. Also, I broke what I believe is the plastic breather tube on the transmission, how hard is it to get the rest of the tube out and replace it? Lastly, there is evidence of wires that had gone to the point I've marked in the photo, what were these for? Just rearward of those are two wires I remember disconnecting, but don't believe anything was connected at the other point.

I think he means Zs will make you stand out in a crowd -- such as a crowd of Hondas. To Z people that's a good thing, not a put down. Welcome.

Welocme to the club. Would love to see some pictures, post them when you get a chance. Like to see people restoring the oft maligned (at least in the States) 2+2. Just picked up my third 240Z in Washington State (U.S.) and this is the one I think I'll actually be able to restore as it has much less rust than my other cars had.
  21. madkaw, so if we buy the higher pressure springs for $14 and just change them with the ones in our current pump it will work same as the manual turbo pump? If you have a stock pump that should be even cheaper. I've been thinking of this upgrade, but if my stock pumps work just fine maybe I'll just change the springs.

Update: New Z Project 1970 240Z Lucky 7s - HLS30 7273 7/70 build date. My old Z is now the parts car as it is just to rusty for me to restore, at least for now. Gary
  23. I too vote for headlight covers, oh yeah, as well as "Rally" clocks (both clock and separate oscillator).
