  1. Is there a way to adjust the torsion bars? The hood on my '72 parts car used to stay up on its own, while my '71 car's hood will not stay up without the prop in place. Then I forget it's there and try and close the hood without putting it down (I've a bad case of Sometimers disease I guess). Sometimes I remember, sometimes I don't. How do you increase the torsion to hold up the hood?

Yes, I've had people try to charge me for using PayPal when the money is drawn on a credit card. However, according to eBay, this kind of charge is not allowed. Either you take PayPal or you don't, you don't get to charge people more just because they charge a very small fee for funds drawn on a credit card.
  3. So true, but the starting price is pretty low. Depends on how high it goes. This guy does like to charge quite a bit for shipping.

Yeah, that was what I was getting with the wider donations block. Now that I am home things are back to normal. Guess I'll have to see if its the same at work in the a.m. Has yours cleared up Bambi?

Okay, it's not just my work computer, tried one in another department and still have the problem. It shrinks if I make text size smaller, but doesn't go away. Also, it doesn't seem to be affected by changing screen resolution. Also doesn't seem to show up except on the home page. Help!

Is it just me or does anybody else have a large white rectangle blocking view of a good chunk of the home page? This seems to be covering the left half of the newest forum topics down to about half the list. I guess I'll try shutting down and reconnecting. Gary

I took my old front bumper off awhile back and have a replacement ready to go on when everything else is taken care of. I'll check it out tonight and see if it might be something you're interested in. Gary Since I can't copy my own picture, here's a link to the members gallery where you can see a few photos of the bumper before I took it off. As you can see it is relatively straight, with the exception of the dents in the center. http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=8609&sort=1&cat=500&page=2
  8. I was keeping my on this one myself, but since you ask: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=2493858762&category=34206
  9. Look at the photos, the car has BC (British Columbia, Canada) plates.

Sorry to keep flogging a dead horse -- but when the seller says actual shipping costs plus $3 handling charge in a "no reserve" auction, then he shouldn't hide his reserve in his final shipping cost. This is a dishonest practice and was only emphasized by the fact he is listing the same type item (size, weight) at "no reserve" with a higher start price and lower shipping price. Sure I believe in Caveat Emptor -- I guess I was just blowing off some steam. Update: I just checked his auction and see he has ended it early due to an error in his listing. Maybe he just entered the wrong shipping weight in his calculator (I'd like to think it was an honest error). Personally I like the US Postal Service Calculator I use because it tells the shipping weight I've listed to the potential buyer so s/he can decide whether I'm giving an honest shipping weight. By using the calculator I have to shuffle most of the stuff down to the post office to get it weighed (unless it's under 5 lbs), but then there are no questions about what final ship cost should be. After admonishing him for the high price of shipping and saying he should be ashamed of himself he displayed this answer in the auction he has now closed: A: I just plug the numbers into the the machine, I dont make the prices. I will check to make sure I have the weight listed right. Thanks For the heads up. Now I kind of feel bad, especially if it was an honest mistake. Gary
  11. Love the car, wish I could afford to take care of her for you. Good luck finding the right buyer. Stay safe.

I always try to include a shipping calculator. When the potential buyer enters their zip code the calculator will tell what weight I have entered. Of course I never charge handling (not yet anyway). I might charge handling if it was something very large. I learned a long time ago not to bid if I don't know the shipping charges, but when something seems crooked to me I just have to tell someone.

http://zhome.com/ under accessories. They show a no long available aftermarket T-Top that I think looks pretty good. Here's the website and the story: http://zhome.com/History/240Accessory.htm If it was available today and didn't cause headroom or structural problems I'd go for it. Much nicer than a sunroof.

I've been watching a 280Z padded armrest on eBay that's only got 2 hrs. to go and have been tempted to buy and adapt to my 240Z. Bid is at only $1 with no bidders. I guess here's why. When I enter my zip in the shipping calculator I get a shipping cost of over $23 by UPS ground. That must include the $3 handling charge mentioned with the auction description. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2492578092&fromMakeTrack=true His seller name is djd16 and he seems to also go by ZNZX.com The only thing padded here is the price with a false shipping weight IMHO. To prove my point he has another one of these with a start bid of $10. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=34206&item=2493254065&rd=1 Exact same picture and discription, but when you use the shipping calculator now the cost is only $12.70. What happened did the arm rest go on a diet or was the other one stuffed with lead. I think this is a dishonest practise and I realize Buyer Beware applies, but the tempation to submit a bid and figure how much can shipping be (when he says seller pays actual shipping plus the $3 handling) if I get it for $1. I'm glad s/he includes the shipping calculator or I'd be crying in my beer in a couple hours. He's got relatively positive feedback, but I say I wouldn't do business with him.

Ouch! $2,200+ for an auto tranny, I guess I shouldn't have tossed the one I had. About the same for an R200 diff. I'm glad I don't need (nor can I afford) brand new parts. So dkd021, are you saying they sell items for about half the MSRP I'll keep them in mind for something I just can't find anywhere else and it's nice to know there are a few brand new parts still out there, but they're still out of my range. Are these the same people that list tons of stuff for NISSAN on eBay? The same ones who put the keywords 240Z in all their auctions and slow me down by clogging up the listings when I'm power browsing what's out there?
  16. Hey Alan, Tried to send you a PM today, but it says you've exceeded your storage? Gary

My 1971 has a build date of 12/70 and has all the Series I features -- E31 Head, vertical defrost lines, square holes not punched out in steering wheel, console with ashtray/fuse cover in front of gear shift with cigar lighter, vents in the hatch, "winged" 240Z emblems on the pillars, pointy "t" in the Datsun on the hatch, plastic toolbox covers and no bins in the rear deck, early style dash, speedo starts at 20 mph, NISSAN 2400 valve cover, wierd seat tilt knobs. I guess that's it, no throttle control lever next to the choke lever, tho (too bad). Got lots of rust too, but that will get fixed one of these days.

Those are the Series II toolbox covers they came after the transition which took place some time in 1971 w/ some cars having a mixture of features from the Series I and Series II types appearing that year. This is what I understand anyway. So, the years for the plastic toolboxes on the floor behind the seats were in 1969, 1970 and some 1971.

I too bought a couple of crappy tool covers just for the hinges, but thankfully mine showed up. However, piano hinge painted black would be a fine replacement. I'm picky, but not that picky.

Here's some of the tool box covers. Can't see the hinges, but rzola can give you any info you need. Very trustworthy seller too. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7925379792&category=33640
  21. I too am interested for my 1971 240Z, but will have to wait until you get your second batch ready. Please keep us informed how production is going. Gary, also in Washington State.

I believe Webdawg1 is referring to this toolbox cover. It is for the Series I not the Series II like in deadflo's picture. Reproductions are often for sale on eBay, at least they were. The price wasn't bad altho shipping made them pretty pricey. Not sure these repros came with hinges, but assume they did. These toolboxes were on the floor behind the seats, not in the rear deck. I appologize in advance if these are someone's images, I promise I downloaded them for reference purposes only and hope it's all right to share this info. Sorry I don't have any pictures of the hinges themselves but they shouldn't be too hard to reproduce with other materials.
  23. Bambi, Of course your right, if this was a story problem in high school I would have flunked. I just read "slide show" and thought of my screensaver at work and read right over desktop.

I have the floorpans from Charlie and the seat mounts from Bad Dog. Just been looking for someone local who knows his/her stuff when it comes to welding. Took a quick welding course, but am not anywhere near skilled enough to do the floors myself. But I think I could do most of the cutting with the school's plasma cutter.
  25. A quick google search came up with this download to create a slide show screensaver in earlier windows versions. As with all downloads off the internet, use your own discretion about whether it's trustworthy or not. http://www.fourmilab.ch/slidescr/
