Cleaning Transmission/Tranny case
Thanks guys. Between the Gunk engine cleaner, which I always thought should be called De-Gunk, and a little wire brushing it is looking much better. It could still probably use the steam-cleaning SBlake mentioned. I also wire wheeled all the old paint and minor rust off my gear reduction starter and painted it with some anti-rust paint. Probably not as good as POR15, but looks much better now - I even polished up the aluminum on the starter somewhat. Since the guy who was going to do all my welding has had his health take a turn for the worse I'm keeping myself busy with little projects until he gets better. Fingers Crossed.

240z (c) on sale in UK Nissan Dealers!!! :)
Just noticed, Happy Birthday Daffy Duck. That car would make a heck of a Bday present. Although at that price you should be able to get a couple really nice cars.

Cleaning Transmission/Tranny case
Quick question. I did a search, but did not find anything on cleaning up the exterior of the tranny case. My 5 speed that I will put in my 240Z is pretty cruddy looking, on the outside anyway - lots of old grease, dirt and grime. But I keep seeing all these nice shiny transmissions for sale on eBay and I'd like mine to look presentable, especially since the motor is all rebuilt and looks nice and clean. What's their secret? Take it somewhere and have someone else do it? I've used a cans-worth of Gunk on it and a wire brush and it looks better, but still has a long ways to go before it will be suitable to be wed to the engine.

240Z in movies
Just saw another Z that apparently isn't listed on the IMCDB site. There is a red 280Z 2+2 that appears on screen for about a minute. I think it's driven by one of the characters. Didn't watch the whole movie. Also thought I'd include an image of the poster/VHS cover from the 1979 B Movie starring one-time Charlie's Angel Shelley Hack called Death Car on the Freeway that's supposed to have a Z in it. Found the image on eBay. Wish I'd had a 240Z back in 1979 when I was a senior in high school.

At last at last at last
dankehoe1, you can include reduced size photos right in your post, using the go advanced post option and choosing manage attachments. It has an option to upload photos. They'll appear in your post as clickable thumbnails that will enlarge in a new window or tab when clicked. This saves time waiting for photo approval like when you are putting something in your gallery. You might give it a try with a few of your photos so we can get an idea of what the car looks like.

One of my favorites is back on ebay
Troubled, the car looks great - maybe some minor word changes would have been better, but otherwise your ad seems pretty straightforward, a lot more so than most auctions you see on eBay. All the extra pictures you linked to are what really tell the story. Best of luck on your auction and even though you've gone 350Z keep us posted on what you're up to. G.

Could this be real; a 1971 240Z VEGIE car?
We also discussed it awhile back here: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14732&highlight=veggie

Z Coincidence
I was attending a meeting this morning when I noticed I had a voice message during the break. It was from a guy from Oregon I had won an auction from on eBay. I called him back because he said he would send me some other parts as well for no extra charge - engine harness and heater panel. At the very minute I was telling him I thought I was the only person in Okanogan County who owned a 240Z (not in a wrecking yard that is) an orange 1972 pulled up and parked about 30 yards away. The gentleman that owned the car said he bought it for $1700 12 years ago. It was in really nice shape and I've included a few pictures. The guy is the District Ranger for the Methow Valley Ranger District of the Okanogan and Wenatchee Nat'l Forest. His name is John Newcom and looked to be a couple inches shorter than me - around 6'4" which just goes to show how well these cars fit taller people. I told him about the club and Dave (Zsondabrain) because he is having a few headlight problems.

240Z in movies
Just caught part of what I believe was an insurance commercial - see how much attention I pay to TV ads - in it is what appears to be a red or reddish-orange 260/280Z that has been stripped. No doors. Car is in a back lot with what looks like a For Sale sign on the windshield. I think one guy was showing the other guy the car. He says something like "They didn't get the stereo." Seems to make him happy. Funny, I had just flashed on thinking of Z's in commercials and this one comes up. It shows the car for such a short period I hope they run it again so I can check it out better and find out what the commercial actually is. The car looked like a 2+2 from the little I saw of it. jdm head light covers
Clicked on bids - which now says "0" and this is what shows up. By all seven bidders it says reason for cancellation is "Wrong Bid." http://offer.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&item=160148701725My understanding was the seller could not change the auction - like add a reserve after it had a bid. Of course they can always say "no longer available" or "misinformation in description" or some such to cancel the auction and start over. There was a $650 bid so reserve must be huge. Maybe the high bidder had a lot of negative feedback - another reason I hate that they changed from showing the bidders auction name to Bidder #1, 2, 3, etc. Very mysterious!

I like the look of the ceramic coated ones - I hope they actually work as advertised as well. I guess one day I'll find out. Mine are just waiting to go. G

Do you mean tube or hose ? Sorry, couldn't resist. Had an college roommate once with a '48 Pontiac Businessman's Coupe, it had vacuum tubes, but they were in the factory radio.

Ya'LL! Howdy from Texas : )
Welcome aboard, I'm not quite in Canada, four miles south, but in (eastern) Washington State. Can't wait to see your pics after the paint job is done. Saw the one root beer/copper brown pre-paint pic on your Myspace page. Wish I was at the painting stage on my 240Z. This is a great site to find information on your car - glad to see you found us.

Does anyone have headlight covers on a silver Z?
In the shape it is in at this point that might not be a bad idea. Closing both eyes might be best tho. G.

Does anyone have headlight covers on a silver Z?
Although the smoked would probably look great, I'm not sure they would be legal - you would have to check your state's regulations. In some states even the clear headlight covers might be frowned upon, but the smoked ones would really draw attention, and not necessarily the kind you want. I have one used passenger side OEM headlight cover that some one sold me for a deep discount. I really like the look of the chrome rims. But having just one is nearly worse than having none because you just can't go half way with the covers.

C110 for sale in japan
I hear it is not uncommon for some in Japan to use "Datsun" badges as well on cars that never were "Datsuns" per se.

Country Music
Hank Williams Sr., Patsy Cline and Johnny Cash are classic and certainly need to be included in any country list.

Here you go you have to do some searching through the Datsuns to pick out the Zs, but they're there. http://www.imcdb.org/vehicles_make-Datsun.html

Z's in the movies
You might try this thread Darbji, it list several movies, TV shows and somewhere in there there's a link to a site that has lots of examples listed by car type. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2969&highlight=240z+movies There's at least one silver Z in a That 70s Show episode.

She's finally painted! Pictures
Not on the east side of the state - It's nearly 1 a.m. and still 70F degrees outside. We've been only getting into the high eighties to low nineties lately in the sunny Okanogan, but it will probably warm back up soon. We do get some snow and a few months of cold in the winter though. BTW - The paint looks great. I wish my Z was done.

Mystery Console Lever
Thanks for all the responses, don't know why I didn't think antenna switch. Looks like it was well done. I'll probably go aftermarket stereo so might consider that location. G
