Daves 72 240Z III
I love it. Looks nasty. Only suggestion is to get til pipe up 2" higher. The center exit is cool, but hanging too low looks like bad fit.

My new Race Car!!!
Zvoiture, Sorry to hear of your troubles. I suggest returning the car (with transportation charge one way) for return of purchase price. Then move on in your search for quality car. Follow this link to view a really well built L-28 300zx (late style) GT2 racer. This bad boy is soooooo sweet! It's pricey, but you said money was not the determining factor. http://www.race-cars.com/carsales/other/1062560599/1062560599ss.htm best wishes and Merry Christmas, Pancho

Hurst-Airheart replacement pads?
TwoManyZs, Thanks for the quick feedback. I've been searching for Hurst-Airheart sites and all I get is mentions in pages about vintage racecars. I want to keep the H-A brakes to maintain the period correctness. Looks like re-lining is the way to go.

Hurst-Airheart replacement pads?
Does anyone know of a source for new pads for the Hurst-Airheart 4 piston front and 2 piston rear brakes that were sold thru the Datsun competion catalogs of the mid to late '70's? Or does anyone know of a source that can replace friction material on my worn pads? I am putting the race brakes back onto my streetable C-Production car and want a semi-metalic pad that will work cold and wet for street and still perform for auto-x/track days. Thanks in advance, Pancho

Can anybody identify these wheels?
I believe that origional (read old) Minilites were all magnesium. Panasport made very good copies (under liscence?) in aluminum. Minilite may now use aluminum as standard with magnesium being "available". One way to tell magnesium from aluminum is that "mag" is very pourous (air is lighter than even magnesium) with many fine closely spaced air pockets. This is more noticeable on machined surfaces where it can't be confused with casting texture. Another way to spot "mag" is that real mag wheels must be painted (clear, or color) to seal the wheel to prevent air from escaping the tire. This may be done on inside, and/or outside. I have "mag" wheels on my car and they are extremely light. With 12" wide race slicks my 14"x7" Sterling mags weigh approximately 18 lbs.

Street driven C-Production 240Z
greyghost, They are Sterling magnesium wheels. They were made in Argentina in the early '70's. They were very popular on big bore racers (Vett's, Stangs, and others) until the 3 piece modular race wheels appeared (BBS). These are probably the only ones ever on a Datsun. Sorry, but you can't get them anymore. If you are really interested I will be putting on new wheels (Jongbloed 3-piece 17x13 and 17x10!!!!!) and tires this spring and I could part with these. They are 14x7, stock Datsun pattern, and weigh 11 pounds each.

under braking
I saw P.L.N. win his 1st Trans-Am about two weeks earlier at B.I.R. Just smoked everybody by a mile. Have you been to R.A. often?

Love these old race photos. Looks like Sharp has some understeer, Fitzgerald is drifting, and Parkinson (?) is cutting the corner. I've got a bunch of old slides from Road America and Brainerd I need to scan.

Coke bottle shape with flares
Flairs were made by previous owner. I just tried to smooooooth everything out. Hardest part was getting headlight buckets blended in to look like nosecone on a rocket.

Before it was streetable.
The car was raced by Dan Burch from Albuquerque, New Mexico. If anyone has photos of this car I would be very interested! He went to the C.S.P.R.R.C. national run-offs 4 years at Road Atlanta. So someone from the southeast may also have some photos.

Dash/ roll cage/ fire system
Dash is aluminum covered in genuine artifical leather (naugahide). I removed a few bars from roll cage to make it possible to have two seats (not shown in photo). Fire system is Halon, and is activated by punching handle in center console. Nozzles up by dash and back by fuel cell.
-
Custom dash/gage/switch layout
Mallory knob is adj. rev control. Tach is mechanical, driven off back of camshaft, with tattle-tale needle. Fire nozzle is visable by gearshift.

Oil cooler & rad. ducting
Photo was taken in fall and oil cooler did too good of a job, so I had to block off cooler. Also shows boxes to hold and aim repositioned headlights.

Custom plug wire loom, polished core support Vett rad.
Never could get plug wires run nice, so I machined lexan and bent over hot-plate. Wires do not arc because lexan is dialeltic. Plug wires never go onto wrong plug.

Tried to keep everything to four colors. Black, silver, red, and blue. Everyone has silver headers so I went with blue like old F-1 Ferrari's of the sixties and seventies.
