Centre Console Repair
Just imported some 'Spray Grain' from the USA. Will try a practice run this weekend on a spare piece of plastic to see what happens and let you all know the results. Apparently, the more you spray the deeper the grain - we'll see !

Fog Lamp Switch
Alan, these installation diagrams are great - what's the source ? Are there similar drawings for the rest of the car and are copies obtainable ? Thanks for the info.

Quick rebuild of wiper arm pivots...
Has anyone got a detailed drawing showing the component and assembly of the wiper arm pivots. I've got the parts but not to sure how they fit together and/or whether any parts are missing.

Fog Lamp Switch
Did anyone ever manage to get hold of an original fog light switch or did anyone successfully convert a harzard switch to a fog light switch - I am thinking of doing the same. Also, does any one know what the original front (was rear lights an option ?), fog lights looked like and how they were mounted ?

Hitachi Radio Wanted
No problem 26th. Sounds like you've come up with the goods again. I think in future I'll just mail you first and post a classified thread only if you haven't got available what I need. Thankyou. Dave

Hitachi Radio Wanted
This model was supplied by Hitachi for the 1970 240Z. I would consider a similar model if available. Thanks for your interest. Dave

round shape knobs and square shape knobs
I notice in the pictures above that the round knob shapes are a mirror image of each other but the square ones are exactly the same shape. Is this correct ?

Hand Throttle on Automatics?
I also once had a hand throttle on my 1970 automatic (converted to a 5 speed manual), but the cable and lever were removed and some point, mainly because this mechanism (I recently been told), became illegal in the USA. I would like to reinstate this in the UK (illegal ?) to make the car original but not too sure where I could get the replacement parts from ?

Not likely but worth a shot !
OK, so I'm unlikely to get them but it's worth a try. For a 1970 Series 1 240Z that resides in the UK: 1. Hand throttle control knob - read previous threads so I'm well aware of how rare these are in the USA too - due apparently to the device becoming illegal at some point. 2. Console coin box. 3. Washer bottle motor. 4. Long pigtail fusebox. 5. Deck lid panel. All shipping and packing costs paid by me of course. There's not many Series 1 in the UK as they were never sold new here so spares availability is virtually nil. I'm therefore relying on my USA and Australian buddies (sorry about the Avatar guys but we haven't won a world cup since 1966 so it's about time we had something to celebrate !) to come up with the goods. Thank you all.

Centre Console Repair
I need to fill some holes in my centre console and was wondering what the best method is to replicate the original grain pattern ? It says in 'How to Restore Your Datsun Z-Car' that 'Cal Custom's Wrinkle Black' paint applied correctly gives a close approximation. Has any one tried this ? Also thought about taking an impression from a good area and imprinting it into the semi-dry filler ? Advice please. Thanks:ermm:

forward console panel
Sounds good Frank13. I'll start the search for the right shifter and then elongate the opening.

forward console panel
Would it be possible then to modify the 5 speed stick so that it can be offset to line up with the 4 speed console ? What offset would be required to bring it into line i.e. what's the length difference between the neutral positions of the 4 and 5 speed sticks ?

Chrome ashtray
Well you learn something new every day! I guess not many of these survive if they were made of bake-lite. Strange choice of material for an ashtray. Thanks for the info. Dave

forward console panel
Hi Steve, My Series 1 240Z (HLS 3012585) was imported from California to the UK several years ago. It lay in someones garage for a couple of years until a bought it to use as an historic racer combining together my love of Z's and competition racing. However, I didn't bargain on caring so much about damaging the car (and my bank balance !), that unfortunately I was much to uncompetitive so I therefore decided to stop. Another couple of years later lying in a garage (mine this time), and now I working on it for fast raod/track use. The body is excellent but the electrics were rubbish so I've ripped the old loom out and got an aerospace technician friend to put a new one together for me - taking the opportunity to uprate the wires for later and higher spec. electrical equipment e.g. more powerful headlights. I'm also uprating the suspension with lower springs and tokico shock's plus thicker sway bars and harder bushes. I will also be switching to electronic ignition but will be keeping the standard carb's for now. Can't decide what colour to paint the body though ? It's currently in 'Samuri' (UK 'Big Sam') colours but the original colour is orange (was it called 'Mexican' orange ?) which I must admit I have always liked and may return it back one day. Hope this answers your questions. Thanks for the information on the centre console. Dave

Chrome ashtray
Chrome ashtray wanted for 1970 (Series 1) 240z i.e. the one that is located on the plastic panel that covers the fuse box. I have the panel and ashtray lid awaiting. Any condition considered. Will need to post to the UK - but this is fairly straight forward. I will pay for postage and packing of course. Thanks.

forward console panel
Following on from this previous discussion. Is it possible to use the series 1 consule design with a 5 speed gearbox ? I have a 1970 240z with a 5 speed box but would like to use the original console design if possible - has anyone done this - what mods are required ?
