Can SU'S match EFI?
Hello Zpeople. I'm a recent 240Z owner, this baby has 40,000 miles on a rebuilt L28 engine with stock SU'S (rounded top) and automatic transmision. Can it be possible to match the performance of a L28 engine with standard transmision and EFI? My previuos Z was a '77 2+2 280 with std. tranny EFI, all stock. That car realy kick butt. The things that I don't like is the long body and big bumpers. Right now the L28 engine with SU'S in my 240z is way behind the performance that I loved of the 77 280z. What can I do to get better results.

Advice for a 20hr trip on a 240Z
I did it! I made it! I'm a proud Zowner once again! My departure was from Reno 6:30pm Sat, feb 21 and my arrival to El Paso was 9:30pm Sunday, feb 22. No pain no gain! it's true It was a long trip. First I jump at a plane at 6:00am in El Paso, then make a 1hr stop in Denver, and finaly arrive to Sacramento at 11:30am. That was a piece of cake. Then the Greyhound (Greyturtle) trip, 3 1/2 hrs to get to Reno, I went crazy in that bus, this was an uphill trip the wheather went from bad to worse, rain then snow, oh my god what am I doing here, those were my toughts at that time. Then I finaly arrive to the sellers house, about 5:30pm, I only check the oil levels, brake liquid, tire pressure, lights and that was it. Jump into the car and drove it. All it was smood untill I pump some gas, it was a gas spill. F...k Can only put obout 10 buck at each stop. O.K. no big deal Then a cold and windy night came and the car was starting to lose power at the middle of a lonley road, oh no, what next. It breaks down at midnight at lonely indian gas station, I have to buy the most expensive battery that I may ever buy $90 buck's?!#$%%^%$( not to mention 2.50 gal of gas) Change the battery, put some gas and continue the trip. this town was before Hawtorne. Then I have to stop for a 3 hour nap and there I go again, to Vegas. There the car breaks down again, no problem have some tools and daylight. There I found out that the alternator belt was loose,so I fixed and hit the road to Kingman, Phonex, Tucson, Lordsburg, Las Cruces and EL PASO TX. At El Paso the alternator belt was again loose, not only that, the bottom screws were beheaded. the reason was that I didn't know there were 2 screws, at the botton of the alternator, so I was only tightening one and the other was losse all the way. So I have to pull out the mount from the block and take those scews out. I only have the gas leaking problem right now. I will have to pull down the tank and take a look. The trip was finaly over, I got my Z.

Too Rich when hot
That is a cryptic comment! Can you please explain what difference the oil in the dashpots will make, and what oil is better suited to prevent the problem? The oil in the dashpots must be SAE20 preferably, but not thicker than SAE30. Others claim that ATF is good. This is a basic fact! so it will make a lot of difference if you put SAE40 or 50 oil. The piston that slides in the dashpots makes the mixture of air-gas that goes to the engine. The piston is balanced by is weight, upper pressured air in the dashpots, bottom atmospheric air that comes from the air filter, plus the spring tension. All this must operate correctly for the best performance possible. I read a letter from a Zguy in Cal. He found out that the carb's will perform better by changing oil thickness according to summer-winter. Hope this solve your problem, good luck.

Can you identefy this carb?
My trip from Reno, Nv to El Paso, Tx. It was a spooky ride. I was driving in the middle of a chilling and lonely rainy night. The car have a few flaws, first a gas leak when pumping gas and with every filled tank. then the battery break's down at a gas station, lucky it was only a loose alternator belt. Suddenly i'm in Phonex, in a race, looks like one, what a freaky freeway. From there on it went pretty smood back on my enviroment, no rain or snow. Yeah only have the gut's for 100mph. at that point the car went a little shaky or it was me? I don't know. My departure was on saturday 6pm. and arrive sunday 9pm. The car ended with a gas problem i think, when I make a stop it shakes and dies have to turn the choke on. It could be that twice I ran almost out of gas, it suck all the old gas otored for several years I haven't driven it since then. I'm thinking on replacing the gas/air filters also change plug's and wires.

Advice for a 20hr trip on a 240Z
Thank you guys for all the advice and Zknowledge. The AAA Towing/Road Service Card i'ts a good idea. Hey Hed, don't know what's the wire for? Are the points, cap, rotor easy to find? Nobody mention antifreeze for me (TEQUILA), just in case the car stops on a winter storm. I wouldn't miss the chance to drive a Z on an open road. Will be hearing from me when the trips over, hope next sunday.

Advice for a 20hr trip on a 240Z
I need advice for a 20hr. trip from Reno, Nv to El Paso,Tx on a 1972 240z that I just bought on e-bay. The car looks good in the pictures, and the previuos owner for the last 30 years was a retired mechanic, so that gives me a lot of confidence. The car is an automatic with a rebuilt engine, 40,000 miles ago,and stock carburators. I was told that has been sitting for about 4 years and last september they drove it for about 2 1/2 hours at highway speed. The bad, i just spent all my earnings on that car and the airplane ticket, and only have left like 300 bucks for the trip, sounds pretty scarry but is worth it. Here's my plan: I'm going to inspect/replace water hoses, engine belts, gas lines, oil levels (motor, transmision, diferencial), alternator. I'm gonna inspect the car for leaks and oil levels every 1/2hour of trip for at least 3 times. WHAT ELSE DO I HAVE TO CHECK, WHAT CAN I DO IF THE CAR STOPS

Help wanted to restore a 260Z!!
Thing's are still the same, my instinct tell me that there are varios killers, this is a no law land, and it's pretty much simple to kill some one and get away with it. One of the main problem is that it is a bridge-city to U.S.A. and a lot of people come and go.

Help wanted to restore a 260Z!!
I'm starting to rebuilt a 260Z that its a big mess. I'll probably need to buy a part's car to get the gob done insted of buying all the parts that are missing. Been searching for that par's car and found a lot of 280's. Here's my question. Are the body and interior parts compatible with one another? or do i have to look for a 260Z exclusivly. Thank's for your support and Zknowledge.

free car!
Congratulations SkinnyZ. By the way you have a nice car. Do the legal paper work first, dont'n invest nothing untill this. You should get all the info you can there on the shop. Watch up for dust at the spark plug holes, clean it up before changing the plugs, don't spill any dust to the cilinders. Change the motor oil and inspect the old one, take a sample of the oil and its sediments (if there were) and ask for assesment at the shop. Change the brake liquid and purge the lines Do some grease gob All of these things i'll probably do, by the way i'm not a mecanic, find one near your area cause you'll need one, and make shure is has experience on Z carbs Good luck!!! And if you change your mind and want to sell this babe Please let me know.

Buying a 240z
Hello, I'm also want to get the Z experience, I once owned a 77 280Z, and never get tired of him, i find it very reliable, powerfull (not to mention it's natural beauty, excep for the ugly bumpers). So here i am trying to be part of 240z history So if any one knows a 240Z car is on sale near the south-west Texas, please let me know.
