both points make sense. if you want the government to tell suv's to stay off the road then you can't expect them to leave our z's on the road. if the man is going to make manufacturers make light trucks with 35mpg more efficiency then they should probably make sport utes do something along the same lines though. while the small trucks may get crappy mpg for size of motor and size of vehicle i'm sure the amount of gas suv's suck up is just as bad and should be adjusted if they're going to pick on small trucks. i heard a stat saying that in the next 20-30 years the water level is supposed to rise 9-12 feet which puts a good chunk of florida underwater. it would probably be nice if people just tried to make a conscious effort to opt for hybrids when available or something a lil more environmentally friendly than an excursion. i'm sure the rise in gas prices coming up will push people that way anyways though.

i've been under the car pretty recently and the piping and exhaust seem to be fine and i dont hear any exhaust leaks when the car is running. i keep harping on the cam thing because it is a wild cam and the fact that my rear hatch seal is in place. my brother told me what carl said about them not necessariliy being that great even oem after awhile tend to let some exhaust in. however after looking at my brothers i see that this guy bought some universal seal kit and shoved a bunch of crap in the car. i had to replace the door seal with an oem replica because he had put some crappy soft seal with no backing to keep it on that metal ridge its supposed to adhere to. it appears the hatch seal is pretty much the same thing as the door seal. its a very soft and pliable materal with two to three times as much material as my brothers rear hatch seal. i assume all this extra crappy seal is what causes it to get caught when you close it and bend out of position. i'm hoping that will solve it or something cause that exhaust fume induces asthma type symptoms which are o so enjoyable.

yeah i was on the phone with motorsport today and the tech guy mentioned that taillight gaskets could be the culprit but they're in there and they seem to me in tact with their foam like texture.

hey guys, for the reason listed in my "strong gas scent" thread and the fact that i think my car would run better with it i was thinking of stepping down from whatever big race cam i have that makes my car lope, though that part is cool, to something smaller and much milder. has anyone used motorsport cams and if so how do you like them? any other brands anyone would recommend? i know crane is the big name and they also have a sizable price attached to them. maybe i should just step back to stock cam for a bit. thanks for your time everyone, brian -broken74-

hey guys, is it likely at all that the large cam i have in my car is spitting out a bunch of unspent gas in my exhaust and or when i had my car tuned it had to be tuned rich to feed the cam and that's what is causing most of this? or that along with my hatch seal? though the hatch seal is in place and in tact you think it being a lil bent out of place on the sides could be allowing the exhaust fumes to be sucked into the cabin? thanks, brian

how did you decide that that was where the leak was coming from?

carl, pretty sure jeff and i checked the nipple when we put the new vent hose onto the filler tube. he's really anal about not having to do things twice, no idea why :devious: . and yeah i meant the accelerator linkage sorry. moreso there isn't much of a gromet around the heater hoses like i said its some crappily applied sealant. vicky, yeah the rubber inner shift boot is there and in tact, infact that's all i'm using for a shift boot. frank, i dont really know which gasket you're talkinga bout. the one between the head and the header? the one between the header and the exhaust? thanks everyone for the continued help brian

yeah sorry i should be more clear, i meant to say exhaust fumes instead of gas.

hey guys, i've got this problem with my 260 where it tends to smell like gas in the cabin. i have some small holes in the passenger floorboard which i just recently for zfest this past weekend put duct tape over to see if that was the problem and its not. the car was tuned by zotz in orlando which is reputable for such work and the rear hatch seal seems to be in place and in tact. when i bought the car the previous owner told me it has a schneider stage 3 race cam and it does lope at idle, but i dont think that's causing the gas smell to get in my car. i'm pretty sure all my gromets in the firewall are in place like they should be. does anyone have any ideas as to how or what i can do to get rid of the gas smell. its the kind of thing where after you drive in the freeway for 20 minutes you've got an unpleasant coating on your lungs, not liking it. i'm not sure if this helps but it tends to be strongest when i'm at idle or when i'm getting on it and then letting off some. thanks for the help everyone, brian -broken74-
  12. does the problem exist from when you first start the car up to as long as its running? i was talking to a guy at zfest this past saturday and it looked like he had done some work to prevent vapor lock on his fuel fail and bowl and exteneded his heat shield over the header because his msa header was causing too much heat for his fuel system. he said that if he went to mcdonalds and started to pull away it would sputter and jerk and stuff and act like it wanted to die. i doubt that this is your problem, but just throwing something that might be plausible out there so you dont have to have it towed to your friends shop. brian -broken74-

I'll be there in full effect with my multicolored dream machine. feel free to buy me several of those beers as well brian
  14. if its a mechanical fuel pump then i believe it would be on the passenger side of the engine up towards the part farthest from the firewall attached the cylinder head. my 260 has an electric fuel pump and is located at the rear of the car between my differential and my gas tank. good luck!

ok thanks, yeah i heard the reproduction panels are often hard to make absolutely straight. i'm not really looking for something to make a 4,000 dollar paint job work i'm doing the economy, make my frankenstein z one color and maybe half decent looking thing. ok yeah the main thing i was wondering was if it would affect how anything handled or looked because of any weight reduction or anything. interesting how the hood on both of your guys' cars seem, i was under the impression fiber glass was supposed to be a weight saver. brian
  17. broken74 replied to broken74's post in a topic in Body & Paint
where did you get your hood if you dont mind me asking? yeah i understand pretty much any fiberglass part will be a pain in the arse if i get in a fender bender or anything and would probably just have to repurchase the part. i was mostly just wondering if besides it being a pain in the arse if it causes anything else to be "off" on the car. why did you hood have to be reinforced? brian

hey guys, i was in an accident not too long ago and as a substitute fender i bought a 50 dollar fender not in the best of shape and had it put on so the car was driveable around town. i'm thinking about getting the car painted now and i was wondering if i went with a fiberglass fender on one side might throw off the suspension or the handling or anything odd like that? next i was wondering if i were to go with both fenders and the hood in fiberglass would that cause the front of my z so point up in the air because of the lightened weight in the front or could it cause anything else wierd to happen? thanks for your time, brian <broken74>
